Do you think Amazon Prime is worth $99? I have Amazon and Netflix and Hulu+ and I wonder if I should get rid of one. Thing about Amazon is that it is once a year so you have to remember to cancel it and when your year is up.
Yes, Amazon Prime is TOTALLY worth it for people like me and my husband. We buy SHITLOADS of stuff from amazon all year long, especially during Christmas shopping season, so free two day shipping is worth it alone. The Prime Video streaming is icing on the cake. If you aren't an amazon shopper, though, I would just stick with Netflix.
1st time commenter. Amazon prime is so worth it. Mostly because of the shipping aspect and the access to TV stuff is pretty good. The movies are lame. I would definitely get rid of Hulu because everything on Hulu you can get on the other two and I bet you have cable as well and you have the OnDemand feature, right?!!.
I know entirely too much about this....ugh. I wish my brain was filled with something useful. :)
Hulu+ still has commercials, doesn't it? No way am I paying to watch commercials, that's why I got rid of cable. Netflix and HBOGO stream pretty much what I want and I either download or borrow anything else. It's a caring and sharing world. :D
Totally worth it to save on gas. If I shop I have to travel 150 miles round trip unless it is a stinking Walmart. The old plan was 6$+- per month for free shipping and streaming tv. THe new plan is $8.25 per month for shipping. If I order ONE thing a month, it is paid for. Streaming not as good as Netflix, but still keeps us amused enough, and I consider that free, since I've already justified the cost for the shipping savings.
I don't have Hulu (+ or -) and Netflix and Amazon Prime are two totally different things. Both of which you'll pry from my cold dead fingers. Netflix keeps my kids from killing each other and Prime keeps me from killing a whole lot of other people at Christmas time, not to mention all the useless crap I don't buy trying to get my shopping cart up to the free shipping price.
I have a Kindle Fire still, so to me Prime is worth it...if you have the other services & don't really order physical items from Amazon you could cancel Prime
I'm so far behind..I have a $150 gift cert from Amazon I still haven't used and I got it for Christmas. Undecided on what to buy. We're thinking a "critter cam" so we can see what's flying/creeping around up at Blanc Debris when we're not there. Hoping to catch those flying squirrels coming in for a landing on the suet cake.
Amazon Prime is totally and completely worth it. I pay the student price (which is increasing to $49.99/yr) since I'm still in college, but it would be worth it even at $100/year. It's perfect for Christmas and for little things don't need right away. Products are slightly cheaper on Amazon, I've found (especially things like phone chargers and USB cables), so it pays for itself with product savings and free shipping pretty quickly.
I also have a Kindle Fire, so I have access to their lending library, which is awesome. I've also just discovered that their streaming video has all seasons of Ballykissangel for free, so really Amazon could kick my dog right now and I'd probably still forgive it.
amazon prime is the best thing ever. if you are too lazy to go out and buy half the stuff you need/want in stores or want them for a little cheaper amazon prime will be the best $99 you ever spent
Lurker here - haven't commented in months but have to on this subject. I just left Amazon.com - you have 7 days to sign up for Amazon Prime at the $79.00 rate and not pay $99.00 for a year if you're interested.
Netflix is my go-to for most shows, and Hulu+ for whatever isn't on Netflix.
TOTALLY fuck Hulu+ for having commercials. Every time I see one, I'm like "why didn't I just torrent this show?", especially since they already got my money.
Prime is worth it for the free shipping, but yeah, only if you buy a lot during the year.
I think there's only been one thing I might have seen on Prime that wasn't already on Netflix or Hulu+.
Also, Crunchyroll is awesome for anime. For a while, that was the only streaming option for Attack on Titan.
I have Netflix (mostly for my son) and Amazon Prime. My rate for Prime will go up in May. Your rate changes on the date your renewal goes into effect. That's why some people get the new rate in, say, April and others in August. It depends on when your renewal date occurs.
I am willing to pay the extra $20. Why? I buy a lot from Amazon because I'm disabled. Getting out and driving to stores and walking around and shopping can be overwhelming -- even impossible. Shipping gifts will involve (without Prime) all the above, plus wrapping, packing, driving to UPS or the PO and standing in lines. Also difficult or impossible, depending on my condition at the time. With Prime, I choose, select "this is a gift," pay a bit for gift wrap, and ship to whomever. And the shipping is free; they get the gift in two days. I easily use $99 worth of shipping in a year.
Not to mention I buy boatloads of books (not counting the e-books) and get free shipping on those, too.
Totally worth it. My student rate used to be $39 per year and it just went up to $49 per year. I buy a lot of shit from them, so yeah. Absolutely worth it.
I'm also disabled and shop online most of the time. However, I haven't yet used Prime because if you order $35 or above, shipping is free and I don't need anything in 2 days. So not sure why I would need it.
They are building a million square foot Amazon warehouse about 4-5 miles from my house. I wonder what they will charge Amazon Prime members for same day delivery? I hope they have a will call window if it is too pricey.
Jeneral: HBO doesn't care who you give the log in and PW to. Their MO is to get as many eyeballs as possible on their content. I don't think they have a limit to the # of devices logged into the same account. That is why the system crashed during the True Detective finale.
Totally worth it. I buy everything on Amazon, from all my kids Christmas presents, to a chemo hat for my friend. It's usually cheaper and free shipping. What's not to love.
I use Amazon Smile; it's Amazon but I've designated a charity to get a percentage of every purchase I make. Does Amazon Prime work with that?
I used to see no need to have Amazon Prime because $25 would get free shipping anyway, just a couple days slower. Now that that threshold is $35, I find myself buying less online and doing more looking locally. But, Barnes & Noble's free shipping with no minimum for members is SO handy with buying gifts that I could see Amazon Prime being useful like that too....
That student discount they have....do they have a government employee discount or veteran's discount or anything like that?
I have Amazon Prime and Netflix; keeping both of them. Hulu Plus has commercials, so it is a big "no" for me. I buy a lot of things on Amazon, and the quick shipping is nice.
Amazon Prime is so worth it to me. It kept me company when my husband was in Afghanistan. I binge watched Vikings on Xmas Day. While he was there, I had developed a fainting issue and couldn't drive as much. So I got all my dog and cat food/snackies delivered through subscribe and save. I have 4 big dogs and 3 cats, some months I didn't plan too well but the two day shipping meant no one starved!
I also sent my husband a lot of food and necessities to remind him of home while he was over there. I also made sure I over ordered so he would have enough of the things, like laundry detergent, toothpaste and baby wipes or whatever they were always short on at the PX so he could share with his buddies. Amazon saved me a shit load of money in shipping and it got there in a timely manner. Paid for itself many times over.
I also sent him a Kindle in an Otterbox to occupy his time. He could play games and read.
Just very happy he's home safe and sound! Squeeeeeeee! And love my Amazon Prime!
I had an accident a few years ago and was essentially home-bound for the better part of 2 years--and Amazon Prime kept me going. I have a local grocery that delivers and Amazon and I could pretty get anything I needed online and have it brought to my door. I have a kindle so I buy mostly e-books so the shipping isn't as important but I usually order enough to pay back the Prime membership and I get to borrow books, plus a lot of streaming tv and movies. I have netflix, and cable so I don't bother with Hulu, I usually get what I want from Amazon or On Demand. If I had to lose something it would be netflix--i keep it because of House of Cards and the things they produce themselves but I think now Amazon has HOC season 1 --so I may not need Netflix eventually.
Holy Shit yes! I live in Brooklyn and I will order some things and get them in less than 24 hours! I even once ordered something at 2 am and got it the next afternoon! YOWZA!
So far, it hasn't been worth it.
ReplyDeleteYes, Amazon Prime is TOTALLY worth it for people like me and my husband. ReplyDeleteI <3 Amazon Prime!
DeleteI <3 Amazon Prime!
DeleteNetflix and Hulu+ don't deliver, though.
ReplyDeleteUnless you're just mean.
1st time commenter. Amazon prime is so worth it. Mostly because of the shipping aspect and the access to TV stuff is pretty good. The movies are lame. I have netflix... I would stick toNetflix, Enty. See how they do at amazon for a year and then if people rave about amazon, change your subscription.
ReplyDeleteHey-ho, @FunnyBits, welcome!
ReplyDeleteHulu+ still has commercials, doesn't it? No way am I paying to watch commercials, that's why I got rid of cable. Netflix and HBOGO stream pretty much what I want and I either download or borrow anything else. It's a caring and sharing world. :D
I love Amazon Prime but I noticed my sister's membership will go up in price next year April where as mine will go up in August, that sux!
ReplyDeleteLove Amazon Prime! I use it a lot, so it more than pays for itself over the course of a year
ReplyDeleteLOVE Amazon Prime. Got it right before Christmas and it immediatley paid for itself in 2-day shipping alone.
ReplyDeleteYay for new commenting, Funny Bits!
ReplyDeleteI just hate to pay for shipping. Like at all. I have gotten really good at delayed gratification
As long as there is still a student discount for prime, im good.
ReplyDeleteAmazon Prime 4 Lyfe, y'all.
ReplyDeletehere is a comparison of the streaming TV shows: http://lifehacker.com/tv-streaming-head-to-head-netflix-vs-hulu-vs-amazon-pr-1536006625
ReplyDeleteI'm all for Amazon Prime. They haven't raised the rates in 7 years.
ReplyDeleteI use it constantly and even watch movies and other things on it.
You don't have to worry about renewing it; that's done automatically on a yearly basis by charging your credit card. It's a no brainer.
Totally worth it to save on gas. If I shop I have to travel 150 miles round trip unless it is a stinking Walmart. The old plan was 6$+- per month for free shipping and streaming tv. ReplyDeleteNone of them are worth it.
ReplyDeleteWe love it, and at Christmas the free shipping alone took care of it's cost.
ReplyDeleteI don't have Hulu (+ or -) and Netflix and Amazon Prime are two totally different things. Both of which you'll pry from my cold dead fingers. ReplyDeletewell the 2 day free shipping is great if you shop on the net-most items are received in 2 days
ReplyDeletelike Netflix for the content
I'd dump Hulu
I agree w/ Naughty Nurse. The free 2nd day shipping w/ Amazon Prime is great.
ReplyDeleteI'm so far behind..I have a $150 gift cert from Amazon I still haven't used and I got it for Christmas. Undecided on what to buy. We're thinking a "critter cam" so we can see what's flying/creeping around up at Blanc Debris when we're not there. Hoping to catch those flying squirrels coming in for a landing on the suet cake.
ReplyDeleteUh I guess the answer is no?

ReplyDeleteTotally worth it if you buy a lot of stuff and I do. Like someone said upthread, the streaming is just icing on the free two day-shipping cake.
ReplyDeleteProbably not worth it if you're just doing it for the movies.
Lurker here - haven't commented in months but have to on this subject. I just left Amazon.com - you have 7 days to sign up for Amazon Prime at the $79.00 rate and not pay $99.00 for a year if you're interested.
ReplyDeleteIdk anything about any of those options.
ReplyDeleteNetflix is my go-to for most shows, and Hulu+ for whatever isn't on Netflix.

Amazon Prime pays for itself in free or reduced shipping fees. When you add in the kindle offers and video it is a huge win even at $99.00.
ReplyDeleteI love Amazon Prime they must be losing money on me big time because they have sure paid out way more than 99 dollars in free shipping alone.
ReplyDeleteDrop Amazon prime and keep netflix and hulu.
ReplyDeleteBut I am Canadian say what you Americans get streaming movies too!!????
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteLove Amazon Prime! 2 purchases and the free shipping paid for itself. And I was able to find PITA hard to find parts for my Jeep.
I have Netflix (mostly for my son) and Amazon Prime. My rate for Prime will go up in May. Your rate changes on the date your renewal goes into effect. That's why some people get the new rate in, say, April and others in August. It depends on when your renewal date occurs.

ReplyDeleteGood to hear about Prime. I have been considering it.
ReplyDeleteHa! No. We don't use it enough anymore to warrant paying for it. After our current subscription is up, we're ditching it.
ReplyDeleteI'm also disabled and shop online most of the time. However, I haven't yet used Prime because if you order $35 or above, shipping is free and I don't need anything in 2 days. So not sure why I would need it.
ReplyDelete@Sherry: LOVE the name of your cottage.
ReplyDeleteSeven, if you don't have cable, how are you logging on to HBOGO?
ReplyDeleteThey are building a million square foot Amazon warehouse about 4-5 miles from my house. I wonder what they will charge Amazon Prime members for same day delivery? I hope they have a will call window if it is too pricey.
ReplyDeleteCount, they built one near my house. Nothing I have ordered yet has come from it. Most of them comes from Kentucky.
DeleteJeneral: HBO doesn't care who you give the log in and PW to. Their MO is to get as many eyeballs as possible on their content. I don't think they have a limit to the # of devices logged into the same account. That is why the system crashed during the True Detective finale.
ReplyDeleteCharlie, not a lot of people get it.
ReplyDeleteI am addicted to the 2 day shipping. The free instant videos are a nice bonus.
ReplyDeleteOnly people that matter, Sherry .-)
ReplyDeletePirate Bay
ReplyDeleteTotally worth it. I buy everything on Amazon, from all my kids Christmas presents, to a chemo hat for my friend. It's usually cheaper and free shipping. What's not to love.
ReplyDeleteKeep on buying from amazon everyone. Mr S works there!
ReplyDeleteNo discounts though. Ever

I use Amazon Prime for nearly everything in the world. To me it's totally worth it.
ReplyDeleteNever heard of it
ReplyDeleteI have Amazon Prime and Netflix; keeping both of them. Hulu Plus has commercials, so it is a big "no" for me. I buy a lot of things on Amazon, and the quick shipping is nice.

It's worth it if you buy EVERYTHING online and enjoy watching tv/movies online. Otherwise, no.
ReplyDelete@Sass: AAAAAHHHH! I hope that isn't the case.
ReplyDelete@Jenmcn: I enjoy the Vikings show. If it was on premium cable and had nudity, it would be a higher on my list.
Holy Shit yes! I live in Brooklyn and I will order some things and get them in less than 24 hours! I even once ordered something at 2 am and got it the next afternoon! YOWZA!
