Off Topic

It seems like everyone drives to their destination for Memorial Day, but flies for Thanksgiving which is odd considering you get more time off for Thanksgiving. Maybe we all just live really far from our families.

  1. Drive? Are you nuts? The tourists are EVERYWHERE.

  2. Or maybe you work the day before Thanksgiving until 5 so you dont have time to drive halfway across anywhere to get where you need to be the next day?

  3. I'm stuck in a tourist hotbed right now. I'd love to drive somewhere else where there aren't any tourists. They drive me nuts.

    1. @writergirl, I actually kind of love the tourists in my town. When else would I stick sweaty T-shirts up tailpipes of idling tour buses?

  4. Driving around at the beginning of summer is far better than driving around at the end of November.

    Ask Steve Martin.

  6. Is this your camping holiday like last week was for us? That would make sense then

  7. Good call, TTM. The highway heading north by me is jam packed with RVs and trailers. A lot of Natural Lights are gonna lose their lives in assorted Midwest campgrounds this weekend.

  8. Memorial day weekend is a getaway weekend- people keep it simple and cheap and just go within driving distance by choice. Thankgiving is family and more likely to require flying. Not to hard to figure out.

  9. I'm at Manchester Airport, rosé wine on the table, munching on pizza with my Alan Partridge book at hand and I couldn't be happier. Loving life right now, loving life.

And even though I got swore at twice today, had to get on all twice to remove pupils from my class AND I had a freakout that my year 10s are gonna fail their controlled assessment I am fiiiiiiiiiiine....wine at the airport cures all!

  13. I suspect you must live not too far from me if you're at Manchester Airport. Here;s hoping that lovely bunch of children you teach doesn't include any Violet Jrs.

  14. Ha , say no more... I do live in the vicinity of Manchester airport, ten min drive. I love my classes but they do drive me nuts sometimes! They did wish me a nice trip home so there's that.

  15. Manchester New Hampshire or Manchester England? Sorry it's the airline employee in me trying to verify so no one gets sent to the wrong place!

  16. Oh, lucky for you you're just outside the V Jr circle of hell. You're a saint for doing that job, truly.

  17. GatorGirl I'm in England. 40min hop away home! If you don't mind me asking Violet, what area are you in? Oh I'm no saint, glutton for punishment maybe...

  20. Chester/Alderley Edge area? Rather than Scouse central itself? I've promised myself a wee road trip up that way soon, need to be brave!

  21. I'll leave you in some happy little bubble where you believe I have the funds to live in Alderley Edge.

  22. I dont get the celebrating of Memorial Day anyway. What are we celebrating? We are supp to be remembering our dead soldiers, not cooking out and going on trips. Both of which I do, but still......its creepy.

  24. Like many many people, we know too many deceased young and old military members. Yes, we reflect on their significant contribution on this weekend but we do that all year as well. We also picnic, BBQ, drink, and camp. Nothing creepy about it. Life goes on.

  26. As I am also in UK, I've enjoyed the Violet/Wee exchange a bit too much, considering it has nothing to do with me. Weird.
