Blind Items Revealed
February 22, 2014
This former A+list mostly movie actor who had a run of movies that raced to the top of the box office a little over a decade ago is now probably a B lister but he will always have A list name recognition. Aging and cranky, the actor was out to dinner the other night and brought his own wine. Several bottles. At the end of the night he got the bill and saw the corkage fee the place charged. He argued over the $50 charge on his $500 tab. The restaurant wouldn't budge and our actor walked out of the place without paying the charge and told them they could sue him. He didn't tip either.
Mel Gibson
Wigs FTW
ReplyDeleteI wish he'd get his act together.
ReplyDeleteThere is no act to get together, Reno. All jerk
ReplyDeleteIsn't worth suing over and since he probs ain't coming back they dont get the satisfaction of denying him service.
ReplyDelete"wow this is so shocking, mel gibson seems like such a nice guy usually" - said no one ever
ReplyDeleteI hope he felt bad enough to Payback the restaurant the next day.
ReplyDelete(I know... I have a problem...)
He sounds like a Mad Max...
ReplyDeleteI dont wanna get my Lethal Weapon out of the closet so stop before I go Florida on yo asses!
ReplyDeleteHe should be glad the restaurant allowed him to bring his own wine! Unless he opened every bottle himself, someone had to be on hand to do it. Did he think that sommelier works for free?
ReplyDeleteCheap Bastard...
Sounds like a Conspiracy Theory to me
ReplyDeleteAnd if there is one thing ol Mel never understood, it's What Women Want. It isn't to be called Sugar Tits, that's fo dang shore
ReplyDeleteHe would have known about the fee if he read any of the numerous Signs. Shoulda just had a Tequila Sunrise and called it a night.
ReplyDeleteThat waiter sure had a BraveHeart to not back down on the charges...
ReplyDeleteI actually saw him once! I was with my Mad friend Max, and Mel drove by us, we 2 looked at each other and said "dang, that was Beyond weird!" and then we continued on to the concert at the Thunderdome
ReplyDeleteHe should have brought his Lethal Weapon 4 this kind of thing
ReplyDeleteBut you can understand why he was upset. I can feel the Passion of the, "Christ!! 50 bucks to pull a cork?!?"
ReplyDeleteHe didn't need a sommelier he brought a Machete to uncork his bottles
ReplyDeleteWine lovers have The Passion of the Christ at the wedding in Cana, when it comes to serving their favorites.
ReplyDeleteNow THIS is a Chicken Run
ReplyDeleteHomie used to be a Maverick, now he has to pay for Beaver and is totally Expendable.,.
Yeah Mels in Machete
ReplyDeleteNext time he eats out the restaurant is gonna hold his drivers license Ransom. I know he's always been a Maverick. But I never knew he was a Chicken. Run from his bill... Terrible.
ReplyDeleteJust another Year of Living Dangerously for Mel.
ReplyDeleteFunny I saw an old Mel movie just last night when he was hot. Had Jamie Lee Curtis and a very young Elijah Wood in it. H'wd tried to make him the romantic lead with everyone hoping something would click like Hepburn and Tracy.
He passes himself off as The biggest Patriot, but I bet it was have to be Apocalypto (ic) to actually get him to show up at a July 4th party
ReplyDeleteIf he was a true Patriot, he would have at least tipped
ReplyDeleteHe's lucky he left when he did, he was causing such a ruckus I heard the manager say " Get the Gringo out of here...and mess him up. Nobodys stiffs us!" It was about to get Apocaplyto up in there!
ReplyDeleteI'm serious! He was about to be A Man Without A Face! If it weren't for the Paparazzi showing up (they saw The Signs that he was off the rails again) it would have been a mess..
DeleteYou all are on a roll!!! lol
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for him to get his Payback. Maybe, someone will punch him and he can be A Man Without A Face...
ReplyDeleteI guess he was trying to drink enough so he could feel Forever Young.
ReplyDeleteSigns are clear Mel is an ass!
ReplyDeleteI'm slow golf-clapping for all of you - very well done! Impressive work, folks!
ReplyDeleteMaybe that wasn't the reason he left though... It could be his dislike of the Ham let him convince himself he didn't need to pay at all...
ReplyDeleteYou try that shit in Gallipoli, and you'll find yourself in a Turkish prison.
ReplyDeleteIt's obvious Mel has become paranoid and expects everyone to try to cheat him.
ReplyDeleteThis incident was Just Another Day In Paradise...filled with cheaters, beaters, and sugar tittied bleaters...
His ex Robin probably wakes up every day thankful that they're divorced, yet I have no doubt that he still terrorizes her and his kids.
ReplyDeleteSorry, no puns to be found in this post. Mel's a raging asshole and megalomaniac, plain and simple.
He prob blamed that on the Jews too. Actually gotta side with Mad Mel on this one. 50 dollars to do nothing in nonsense. They coulda taken it off since it wasn't for anything and gotten the inflated 500 dollar tab. but they wouldn't. And they didn't
ReplyDeleteMaybe Nathaniel but corkage fees are clearly listed on menus. The restaurant wants to sell their own wine although I will agree $50 is a high fee. Makes you realize how much they must mark up each bottle.
ReplyDeleteOrvilla - Your pun-filled post gave me a visual of Lisa Tuttle knocking Mel Gibson's face right off his head!
ReplyDeleteHollywood, please make this happen! But once all filming is done, refuse to pay Mel Gibson, and if you must tip, tip him over.
tehehehe
ReplyDeleteu guys rock!!
@Zeeky Hehehe lol
ReplyDeleteAnd to think this lover ass pig of a male was the one who was once claimed to be the friend who gave rdi his life back in film.
ReplyDeleteThank god Susan came along and saved rdi from this trash ex celeb
He obviously doesn't know What Women Want. I hope somebody gets the gringo.
ReplyDeleteI bet it was late at night though.. probably the
EDGE of Darkness. Should a called the Paparazzi. I'm sure there were Signs but the Chicken Run out on the tab. Probably had to get back to his Million Dollar Hotel. Waiter will get Payback though. I hope it won't be on Father's Day. He is known to be a sneaky Maverick. Lol..
$50 total isn't bad for several bottles. Lucky he wasn't at the French Laundry or Per Se - $150 per bottle corkage. Some restaurants waive corkage fees if you purchase wine there.
ReplyDeleteI can't be mad. Corkage fees are BS. Don't charge me to drink my own wine.
ReplyDeleteYup @Unknown. I worked at a VERY high end restaurant where we charged $50 for corkage, but we'd waive it if you bought several bottles of wine from our cellar. The idea is for you to buy wine at the restaurant per recommendations from the sommelier.
ReplyDeleteThe idea is to provide guests with an experience - something they couldn't get anywhere else.
WTF is a "corkage fee"? I am with Mel "Sugar Tits" Gibson on this one.
ReplyDeleteI heard a quote once about Mel Gibson - something like "the man most loved inside Hollywood and most reviled outside of it," because of what he did for RDJ, Jodie Foster, and apparently others.
ReplyDeleteIt was probably referring to older (not young at least) Hollywood, but interesting.
In Australia, many restaurants allow you to bring your own wine, or did, I was there a while ago, BYOB type places but not all. I thought it was quite cool, hit the bottle shop aka liquor store and pick what you want and then go to the restaurant.
ReplyDeleteWith the pressure to do that here, same in Canada the restaurants said sure you can bring your own bottle but we'll charge you a corkage fee so it's not worth your while pricewise, alcohol sales are where restaurants have a huge markup ergo a big part of their revenue stream.
I guess after two divorces he is frugal or always was growing up in a family with a lot of kids or just getting more ornery as he gets older.

ReplyDeleteRestaurants aren't in the business of not making money. Wine is a big seller and get usually 200% or so profit on wine. They need that money. So when Mel brings his own wine that is money out of the pocket of the owner. So opening the wine pouring the wine, using the wine glasses. The server, all of that costs money.
ReplyDeleteMel is just bat shit crazy and thought he was getting over on the restaurant. He is just a heel.
You guys ARE on a roll too funny, you'd think with The Bounty Mel has amassed in Hollywood, why so Mad Max and going all Road Warrior on this restaurant, so Fury Road - [gratutious plug for Tom Hardy's new film as Mad Max].
ReplyDeleteBTW Year of Living Dangerously one of my favourite films
You know what? He is a crazy dick, but $50 to take cork out of a bottle?? C'mon!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's $500 and he stiffs the server? Die in a fire you racist piece of garbage.
ReplyDeleteBah, Tina...you got in a Bounty pun before I could, heheheh. :-)
ReplyDeleteSeriously, though, I shake my head that Teenage AKM thought this guy was just everything circa LW2. That poor little girl. :-/
I'm sorry but I'm on his side. Well, aside from the millions of $$ he's worth and granted he should've just paid up or at the very least slipped the waiter a tip, the hidden cork fee is bullshit. Those little digs businesses like to make are bs no matter who you are or what you're "worth"
ReplyDeleteBring your own corkscrew - problem solved.
ReplyDelete@Tina - in Montreal (especially the Prince Arthur St. area), a lot of restaurants are BYOB and they DO NOT charge a corkage fee. It's a total racket.
Good for him. They shoulda told him upfront that if he wanted to drink his own wine that they'd charge him for opening it. So instead, they hit him up after the fact, piss him off and the end result is the servers get screwed because management are too stupid to see the larger picture. So fuck them.
ReplyDeleteBy me, having a liquor license is quite expensive for a restaurant. So if you're bringing your own wine rather than drinking theirs, they still need to make money to cover the license, hence the corkage fee.
ReplyDeleteStay classy Mel.
ReplyDeleteSounded like the corkage fee was for ALL the bottles he brought in. Reasonable charge for more than three bottles. I hope other restaurants make him give his credit card before he orders. And makes him wait to be sure it's valid
ReplyDeleteThe blind implies he was alone. $500 for dinner for one? Sod that, shame on the restaurant.
ReplyDeleteDid the restaurant inform him there was a corkage fee ahead of time? I hate to be a Mel apologist, but it sounds like he was surprised to find the fee there and in that case I don't blame him.
ReplyDeleteI think the restaurant is at fault. $50 for corkage after somebody spent a lot of dollars at your restaurant? That is not good customer service and I would of done the same thing.
