Sarah Jessica Parker & Matthew Broderick Are Close To Splitting

According to this week's National Enquirer, the recent cheating allegations about Matthew Broderick have pushed his marriage to Sarah Jessica Parker to the breaking point. I'm not sure how this is any different than the other times he has been accused of cheating on her. Maybe because there have not been any in awhile. Apparently the couple went to Ireland with their kids to try and save their marriage. Ireland is a memorable place for Broderick. That is where he was driving and ended up killing a mother and daughter when his car veered over the center line and also left Jennifer Grey, who was his passenger, seriously injured. According to the article in The Enquirer, both Sarah and Matthew looked serious and not like they were having much fun and were trying to use this time away to save their marriage.

Must be fun trying to save your marriage in the public eye

So he's finally putting her out to pasture.

They have a marriage and it's real? I didn't see any cheating allegations with Matt lately.

That was uncalled for snark right there.

Aww no. That's sad if true. Peaks and troughs that's what I always say for a long relationship (free advice there).

And I'm a bit confused as to why you would go to Ireland to save your marriage. Especially with the kids in tow.

SJP was always bragging, that's a bad sign, about how they would be together forever. I get the Clingon #1 factor from her. She literally clings to Broderick at functions, and he looks like he wants to bolt.

I definitely would have chosen another location.

Woah!! Didn't know 'bout that accident. Ooofff, that hit the spot like nice reveal, but only more so cuz ya snuck in to this non-story. Enty....you did that on purpose didn't you? ;)

I'm caught between feeling aroused by the juicy gossip or feeling contemplatitively mournful of what, I never knew, MB had gone through.

Oh noooo I'm so sad! I thought because they were together for so long before marrying and having kids that they would be together forever. I loved that they weren't in all the tabloids but maybe not being photographed together should have been a sign. I hope she's happy because she's my pretend BFF.

I am not usually one to think everyone is gay but this guy has set off my gaydar for years. Him and Ducky from Pretty in Pink! Or maybe he cheated with a tranny---its the new thing dont cha know...

They both have plenty of money and talent and both have good careers and fans. Why should they be miserable together if they could be happy apart? Life is way too short to stay in a marriage that makes you this unhappy

Essie said...

National Enquirer? Seriously? And why use such an old photo? Notice how little the baby is? Couldn't find a recent photo where they look "miserable" together?

He can do so much better than her. I always wondered what he saw in her to begin with.

These rumors have been going on for years. I'll believe this one when I see it.

Well, kudos to them for trying to work on it, I guess. Usually by the time things get to this point, a lot of people just go ahead and end it.

Sherry said...

Mine too Derek. I've always thought he was gay. NOT like there's anything wrong with that.

Sherry said...

Truly ending a marriage is never easy. She's loved him for a long time and always made that very clear.

Broderick comes across as the coldest, most unaffectionate person ever. I have never heard him say one nice or complimentary thing about Jessica. And he's a smart ass. If i were her, i wld say goodbye depressive human, i want to be happy.

Yeah, I don't get any sense that he enjoys heterosexual sexual activities. And Jessica, you should be enjoying this time, we're at our peak sexuality at this age, don'tcha know? :-)

This makes me think that SATC would be even more interesting with the actress now, in their 40s and 50s. Or maybe that's just me.

shakey said...

You're right, figgy. Instead of Mistresses, they could have a good, honest show about sex and the middle-aged woman pre/during/post. I bet it would do extremely well, especially given the age of the last of the baby boomers.

Oh right - women in tv don't last long enough to experience that, do they?

Side note - I remember hearing about that crash through a coworker who stated she would never like Matthew Broderick again because he basically got off scot free.

Oh, and anyone else remember the blind long ago about how Matthew was in a bar with ... Nathan Lane? And he kept asking girls to spend the night with him, or some such thing?

That car accident was huge news at the time, not only because of the fatalities, but because Broderick was at the height of his fame then. Jennifer Grey, his girlfriend at the time was in the car with him. His car somehow crossed over into the wring lane, and he was pretty badly injured himself and spent months recovering.

It was pretty shocking that the verdict/sentence was as light as it was.

That said, they seem like nice people to me, but if they are in fact miserable, they should do the right things for themselves and their family and end it.

*wrong, not wring

Eros said...

For their children's sake, I hope their marriage can be saved. Good luck to the both of them.

SugarTitz said...

This could be why Sjp took the job to go back to TV again. Fresh start and all.

Zach said...

I know she's an easy target with her face shape and the way she's been aging, while Matthew is multitalented and forever relatable because of Bueller. But am I alone in thinking SHE's the one who can do better than him? She's had the more high-profile career for the past decade, even if her films are shit. And maybe it's because I can't erase his Election performance from my mind, but he's aged badly. Still, I would be sad to see this marriage end. I guess the true test of a relationship is how you cope with the career highs and career lows.

Count Jerkula said...

@Zach: Broderick can work as much as he wants, in theater, film or TV. SJP's next chance at a payday is when the script is finished for SATC 3: Carrie's Aunt Flo Dies. Plus, rich, pudgy white guy will always have an easier time of trading up.

Cheryl said...

Supposedly, SJP wanted to be with someone quiet and laid back after all the years of drama with RDJ, even though there wasn't much passion.

I hate when people bring up the car accident. The exact same thing happened to my brother. Country road - 2 lane highway. He never EVER had a sip of alcohol in his life, nor ever did drugs. Didn't smoke or even cuss! A perfectly straight nerdy arrow. We will never know what caused him to cross the line, could have been an animal he tried to avoid, could have been the other driver that made a move and he countered, etc... But the fact is that sometimes accidents happen. The other driver, a woman, died instantly. My brother spent years rehabbing and managed to live another 10 years or so before passing away at 40 years old. If someone ever dared called my brother a killer because of the accident, I'm not sure what I would do. Matthew's tragic accident was just that - an accident. Legally and in every sense of the word. He has even spoken to the family, made peace with them, etc...and although they were angry as well, they now realize it was due to shock, grief and possibly his celebrity. It was an accident. He is also a victim. Leave it alone!

Unknown said...

While one of the family members has forgiven him, as of this year Broderick and the family never met to talk things over.

mzmarymac said...

@Unknown - OK...so what's your point?

Kat has left the building said...

@mzmary I'm with you and so sorry about your brother. We weren't at the scene of the accident and can't even guess what happened or how the driver feels. Who ever asks for a jail sentence? You go to court with the best lawyer you can afford hoping to get the least punishment. If Broderick got off as he did, so be it. Why would he say no judge, I deserve worse, throw the book at me? Nobody knows how he feels now or what he's done or tried to do for the family. As you've shown, it's hard on the entire family.

Seven of Eleven said...

@mzmarymac, such a sad story. I'm sorry for your loss.

I feel the same way about the accident. Some wiki (paragraph breaks are mine):

On August 5, 1987, Broderick was in a car accident in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland, while vacationing with Jennifer Grey, whom he had begun dating in semi-secrecy during the filming of Ferris Bueller's Day Off. The accident, which was the event through which their relationship became public, occurred when the rented BMW Broderick was driving crossed into the wrong lane and collided head-on with a Volvo driven by Anna Gallagher, 28, accompanied by her mother, Margaret Doherty, 63, who were killed instantly in the accident. Broderick suffered a fractured leg, fractured ribs, a concussion, and a collapsed lung. Grey received minor injuries, including severe whiplash.

Broderick told authorities he had no recollection of the crash and did not know why he was in the wrong lane. "I don't remember the day. I don't remember even getting up in the morning. I don't remember making my bed. What I first remember is waking up in the hospital, with a very strange feeling going on in my leg," he said at the time.

Broderick was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and faced up to five years in prison, but was later convicted of the lesser charge of careless driving and fined $175,[19][20][21][22] which the victims' family called "a travesty of justice." Martin Doherty, whose sister and mother were killed in the crash, later stated that he forgave Broderick, amid plans to meet with Broderick in 2003, in order to gain a sense of closure. As of March 2014, the meeting has not taken place.

In 2012, Broderick had been featured in a multi-million dollar Honda commercial aired during the Super Bowl in which he was highlighted driving a CR-V in homage to the Ferris Bueller movie. Doherty was quoted as saying that Broderick "wasn't the greatest choice of drivers knowing his past".[23]

@Unknown - OK...so what's your point?

The point is, while Broderick did suffer major injuries, the other family suffered multiple fatalities. Broderick is alive and went on to continue a successful career. While I don't think he is a malicious or intentionally harmful person, I find it offensive to classify him as a victim in the way that that family truly were victims. His fine was less than $200 and the sentence was startlingly lenient.

Kelly said...

@mzmarymac I am so sorry. The same thing happened to my family member. I totally get it.

Sherry said...

The whole point is Matthew wasn't the judge. It you wanna be pissed be pissed at the person who was in charge of the sentencing.

Astra Worthington said...

Haha FSP, better out to pasture than the glue or dog food factory!

di butler said...

I wonder what was the trigger? After all these years of his cantering around with the fellas, you'd think they could've plowed through any problems, and galloped down the trails of old age together, synchronized their gait, and cleared the remaining hurdles...

The reason the Broderick accident is treated differently, is because many people in the know have said he was, um, not of a clear mind, shall we say, when it occurred. That is a completely different scenario than what the posters here are talking about, in regards to their poor family members. A more accurate comparison would be Brandy.

My 15 year old cousin lost her life in an accident like this on a country road. Our whole family has never been the same, her parents have never really truly recovered, and she died 18 years ago. It never ends and it still feels like yesterday. Especially for her mom and dad.
