Emmy Awards On A Monday Could Be A One And Done

For the first time that I can remember The Emmy Awards have moved from their traditional Sunday night home to Monday night. From people I spoke to this could be a one time thing, especially if the ratings don't deliver huge numbers. A few years ago The Emmy Awards and other major awards shows have for the most part started airing the broadcast live on the west coast because viewers on the west coast were able to find out who won all the awards and the ratings started to drop. On a Sunday afternoon at 5pm, people on the west coast will sit their butts in front of the television and watch the show. Those same people are not going to leave work early to watch the show live though and there certainly won't be Emmy parties at their house. This is going to lead to people getting the results from the internet and not bothering to tune in when they get home.

Another big issue is with the studios themselves. Most shows are working right now. Most shows don't work on Sundays so the actors and producers could spend all day on Sunday getting ready and partying all night long and show up to work on Monday with a reduced schedule or in about half the shows, just take the day off. That is a day of course that crews don't get paid if they are not working.

Now, with the show being aired on Monday, it means that no one is going to shoot or work on Monday because they have to get ready and Tuesday is going to be a disaster because studios hate the idea of not being able to work for two consecutive days and that is also two days crew probably won't get paid.

Another issue is that the Video Music Awards are airing on Sunday. Do people really want to watch award shows on consecutive nights? The audiences do not exactly overlap, but there is a significant number who would normally watch both, but do those people who would overlap want to park themselves in front of the television to watch back to back nights of awards?

I'd rather watch Monday Night Football.

All those words, and not one mention of how NBC really screwed the pooch on this one because they didn't want to interrupt their precious Sunday Night Football. Don't worry, all will return to normal next year when the Emmys air on CBS or ABC (it changes networks every year)

So Enty is reading the comments...didn't someone point this out yesterday?

Or Fox, they are part of the rotation now too.

Why is this show in August? It seems its been in mid September for most of my life. It was always the kick off for the new season and all the shows premiered within two wekks of the awards.

My god, enty, power down! I dont wanna bust your bubble, but most people dont give a dam when or even if its on. There will always be people who love emmys, and then people who avoid it like the plague. And, duh, enty they can dvr it, no has to sit glued anywhere. Why the hell are u so obsessed with this????

@liddy

Thank you! Like who watches this? Who cares.

Wasn't planning on watching either one of them, no matter what night they're on.

I'm probably more likely to watch on Monday whether or not I know who won. Not an award show I'm clamoring to see however.

VMAs got the date first, that's why Emmys were moved to Monday

The only reason I'm watching the Emmys Monday is for the tribute to Robin Williams

LOL @ Lotta!

I'll watch the Tuesday recaps, the awards don't even interest me since they shut out Tatiana and called Orange is the New Black a "comedy". I do hope Lena Headey wins, though.

Music videos? Bring back pudding pops first. and I'll second 7 of 11 on Tatiana. They are all playing for the 2nd place trophy.

Indeed. Blessed be The Paragraph, Lotta.

Audrey, it's like yesterday's comment all over again. But THIS time, with Enty Paragraphs.

Refuse to watch the VMAs - does MTV even SHOW videos any more? - but will tune in to the Emmys when I get home on Monday.

Forget back to back nights, who the hell watches MTV anymore? And when do they play videos? The "M" stands for "Moron", not "Music" now.

I thought this happened once before in the last several years. But I agree it's a dumb idea. That said, it will be nice to have something to watch Monday night as soon as I get out of work, for the first time all summer.

I hope this doesn't indicate a new direction for CDaN, Enty. Try as I might, I just can't get interested in TV scheduling.

Why did they move to August when they used to be in late September. The Emmys are awfully early this year.

Football hasn't started yet, these are just practices and talent evaluations, who the hell wants to watch preseason or have to pay for the tickets?

The only thing I watch is the preshow for a few minutes or the e fashion show. Award shows are too long and boring.

The crew should get paid as a holiday if they don't work. That's really crappy.
