Blind Item #9
This A list mostly movie actor had a long run on a hit network television show while making movies. He said at a party recently that he has no recollection of even doing a famous character he did the voice work on because he was so wasted during filming.
Didn't Tim Allen do Buzz Lightyear?
ReplyDeleteAdam Sandler
ReplyDeleteSteve Carell
ReplyDeleteI like the Tim Allen guess.
ReplyDeletetricia got it. Tim Allen wasn't really doing movies until after home improvements.
ReplyDeleteHow about Mike Myers? Voiced Shrek. SNL for the network show and movies he did during that - Wayne's World, Austin Powers, etc.
ReplyDeleteI think @SlimShady def. got it with Steve Carrell !!
ReplyDeleteVoice of Gru in "Despicable Me" in 2010 (& Horton Hears A Who, et al) while he was still starring on t.v. 'The Office' & obviously was already a moviestar w/ '40 Year Old Virgin' Date Movie, Crazy,Stupid Love, etc..
What "FAMOUS" voice has Adam really done---"8 crazy nights"? "Zookeeper'? not half as recognized or famous imho...sorry @Tricia ; )
except I don't think of Steve carrell as "so wasted" asto have no recollection of it..
ReplyDeletesooo, @Sarah's guess of Mike Meyers is good too
I stand corrected from my comments below--
ReplyDelete@D Brown got this!!!
Tim Allen For The Win!!!
He WAS still doing Home Improvement when he filmed "The Santa Clause" Films AND the Voice of Buzz Lightyear for 'Toy Story' !!!
you're incorrect here @Lazy daze- I thought u were right too but,He DID DO one of the biggest franchises of all 'The Santa Clause' Films & Buzz Lightyear & Home Improvement & he was wasted a lot of the time..
ReplyDeletescratch all above- its Tim Allen !!
ReplyDeletePops! I guess I read it as though most of the movies came after the show. he did ONE toy story when his show was on the air. The first Santa Claus came out the last year of show.
ReplyDeleteTim Allen fits but I like the Mike Myers guess better. I don't see Tim Allen as a wastoid as described.
ReplyDeleteAllen and Myers are former Aist film actors(Allen the rank is still questionable.) they definitely not current A actors who did voice work as blind stated I think
ReplyDeleteAnd carell strikes me a sober type guy, maybe it's not Sandler, but dontvthink it's guessed yet. Of Jim Carey still A(dontvthnk), I'll say him
ReplyDeleteTim Allen is a recovering Alcoholic & drug addict!!!-it broke up his 1st marriage & a whole lotta other sh*it
ReplyDeleteso Tim Allen is A list mostly movie actor?? these rankings...
ReplyDeleteTim is a former cocaine trafficker. He spent time in the clink for dealing and only got out because he turned states evidence and gave names. He was arrested in 1997 for DUI. He could very well have been butt wasted during Toy Story
ReplyDeleteTim Allen is mostly known for TV with films kind of being lucky breaks.....Don't think its TA
ReplyDeleteI keep getting hung up on the phrase "said at a party recently". Was it a relatively private holiday party? Was it at one of the recent awards after parties? Maybe the question should be who would be invited to a party. Do Tim Allen or Michael Myers still do the party scene?
ReplyDeleteThat's a top of the line functioning alcoholic, collecting a big check and not knowing why.
ReplyDeleteMike Myers just signed on with HBO for this big 2 Year Deal-- big party for him...so there's thaaaat...
ReplyDeleteJason Segal in Despicable Me?
ReplyDeleteYes!!! Great job- you got it@M.Brown. (I knew answer out there:)
ReplyDeleteNice One @M.Brown-- this one was bugging me!!! I didn't even know Jason Segal did a voice in Despicable Me!
ReplyDeleteon a sidenote,he's getting AWESOME reviews @Sundance for his portrayal of David Foster Wallace in "End Of The Tour"-looks like he's kind of reinventing himself a bit w/serious roles, the weight loss, the photographer girlfriend ..
I'm still stubbornly sticking with TIM ALLEN though!!! Final Answer !!! -- sounds more like something Tim Allen would admit to.
ReplyDeletelol...but is TA A list?
ReplyDeleteThis can't be Carrell, since by his admission the "Gru" voice was one he used to do for his children at home to make them laugh, then adopted for film. IE, there is no way he "forgot" the voice he used to do for his own kids!
ReplyDeleteTim Allen, at least, has documented drug issues, so this at least "could" be him. Problem there is that Allen has done "Buzz Lightyear" for THREE separate feature films (Toy Story 1,2,3) plus at least one short film. Seems pretty implausible that he's forgotten how to do that character, given how many times he's done it!
Assuming the facts are correct here, blind has to be someone else. Jonah Hill (allegedly) has some drug issues. . .he did a character in "Megamind". Russell Brand played "Dr. Nefario" in Despicable Me. He did that role twice too, but he also has a hx of substance abuse.
I like where you're going with that, but Segel seems to remember playing "Vector". EG, see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFs89APrmsQ
ReplyDeleteMyers played Shrek in 4 separate films; and was the lead character. Never heard that Myers had chemical issues, but whether true or not, its kinda hard to think he has no memory of the character!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, just based on the terms of the blind, its possible that the character in question isn't from an animated movie.
ReplyDeleteEG, he doesn't fit this blind, but Vin Diesel did the voice of "Groot", who was a CGI animated character in "Guardians of the Galaxy".
I don't know if he's "A list" or "mostly movie" but Kelsey Grammer (TV: Cheers, Frasier) has done a few animated movies (including Toy Story 2) and has a drug history.
@Looking Closely guess its not Jason. I do remember someone from the set of HIMYM saying he was pretty high all the time. Maybe that's more his speed?
ReplyDeletedarn you(shaking fist in the air) @LookingClosely..darn great points... lol
ReplyDelete-Jonah Hill does have issues..Russell Brands been in recovery for alotta Years so I don't think it's him.
It doesn't say Tim (or whoever) doesn't remember the voice, simply that he didn't remember one of the performances because he was high during the shooting. Tim could easily have looked at "Toy Story" to get the Buzz voice for "Toy Story 2" even if he'd forgotten the original recording on account of being too, er, Buzz-ed.
ReplyDeleteAnd for me, Tim's best movie will always be "Galaxy Quest". Which shot the summer after "Home Improvement" wrapped, it's true, but close enough.
(Had no idea Tim has a new ABC show, or that it's been running for four seasons. Or that Amanda Fuller [remembered by me for her famously-bad "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" guest spot] is playing his daughter. Huh.)
yessssss @Jess Sayin' ....& we're back in the running w/Tim Allen !!! ; )
ReplyDelete@Jess, Well, you may be right about this (and I agree with you on "Galaxy Quest"!), but that's not how I interpreted what was written:
ReplyDelete>>He said at a party recently that he has no recollection of even doing
>>a famous character he did the voice work on because he was so
>> wasted during filming.
Toy Story was Allen's first animated movie. Again, taking this literally, its hard to believe Tim Allen has "no recollection" of working with Tom Hanks, Don Rickles, and a number of other really talented people etc for multiple periods of what had to be at least a few weeks each on three separate feature length films!
The blind could still work with Allen if the story was an old one related some time after the first Toy Story movie ('95), but before the next ones ('99). It also could work if Allen was simply exaggerating a little bit to make a more interesting story at this party, or maybe if he just made the claim so he wouldn't have to spend his time at the party "playing" Buzz Lightyear for the guests!. EG, just because Allen told somebody at a party that he has no recollection of playing Buzz Lightyear doesn't mean its really true.
I was just spitballing here. I mentioned Jonah Hill, but I don't think that he's been on any long running TV series, nor do I think the character he played in Megamind was "famous". (EG, can you name that character off the top of your head? I can't). So despite what I said above, I don't think he fits.
ReplyDeleteDon't think Russel Brand has done any significant TV work either. "Vector" is a little more memorable, but is Jason Segal "A-list"?
So I think the best fit so far is Tim Allen (famous voice AND long running TV show), though as mentioned below, even if Allen did tell somebody at a party that he was too wasted to remember "Buzz Lightyear" it doesn't mean he was being truthful.
That is really attention-grabbing, You are an excessively professional blogger.
