Blind Item #2 - Old Hollywood

This permanent A list legend still lives on after his death. His face is everywhere. Anyway, he was married forever and kept his bisexuality hidden from the public. One place he didn't hide it was on movie sets. If you gave him a chance for a river scene or some scene where he could take off his clothes and get naked with fellow male actors he was the first one to do so. He also loved any after set activities that involved group nudity with other men.

Wife Lydia Clarke from 1944-2008(his death). Thinking Ben Hur for the iconic part .

Yes-face lives on with the marketing of Newmans products. Good one.

I know I sound awful, but I always thought he could have done better than Joanne Woodward, who is a lovely, gracious, talented woman. That's why I've always felt crappy thinking it.

I have always heard of Paul being bisexual, but the public wanted a perfect Hollywood couple. Didn't they live with Gore Vidal for a time?

  8. "80% of actors are gay," Tony Perkins boyfriend/stand-in said to me while working on the film set of "Crimes of Passion."

I'd have lived with Gore Vidal if he'd asked.

gotta be Paul Newman.....not new news...like his issues with alcohol.....still he's a guy who did alotta good before it was the 'popular' thing to do like starting those wonderful children's summer camps...like Danny Thomas with St. Jude's.

James Stewart? I thought river was a clue. Didn't his character save his brother from a river? Or he at least stood on a bridge over a river in It's A Wonderful Life.

I thought Burt Reynolds (reference to river being "Deliverance"), but I can't think of how his face would be everywhere.

Heston seemed very game to strip down in Planet Of The Apes, and there was a skinnydipping scene in a river with all three astronauts in the beginning of the movie.

I agree with the Paul Newman guess. His face is on all his product labels & I have heard these rumors before.

@zilla very true- but I totally think it's Newman based on his face being everywhere.

Roundup River Ranch is part of the SeriousFun Children’s Network, a global community of medical specialty camps founded by Paul Newman.

Did Burt die? I think he's still eking it

Agree with Paul Newman. Bisexual or not, he was a great guy and very generous. And if he wanted to get naked with other dudes, more power to him

For once, I'm just glad for an old Hollywood blind that's not something out of Law & Order:SVU. Phew!

  25. I worked at a high end spa in the 90's. Joanne Woodward used to stay for a few weeks in the summer while she played summer stock at a nearby theater. One day a maintenance man had to go to her room to take care of something and he heard hooping and hollering from inside. He knocked & she threw open the door & dragged him into the room. She was standing in front of the tv and a car race was on that was just ending. Paul Newman won the race & she was beside herself with happiness. Jumping up & down, yelling. It's probably one of the sweetest Hollywood couple stories I've ever heard. I refuse to believe this is Paul Newman. *Note - I realize this doesn't mean a thing when it comes to his preferences, I just want to believe they had fairy tale romance.

Paul Newman was gorgeous. It seems Joanne was fine with his penchant for stripping down...so who am I to give a shiz?

  27. I want more details about the set of "Crimes of Passion" from @david. What a wild film that was! Afaik it's never been on any of the cable channels since way back --I've only seen it once. Kinky!

  31. This was before meeting my soon to be wife.
Developed a crush for Kathleen Turner. But, she was already engaged to a NY Real Estate Developer.
Sigh, she wouldn't have been interested in me anyway, back then.
Then, I saw her at Culver Studios (formerly Laird) a year or so later. She was working on Prizzi's Honor with Jack Nicholson. I was on the adjacent set working on a toy commercial. I said "hello" to her one day as she was parading from the set to her dressing room. She looked at me and said, 'Crimes of Passion" as she paraded by.
Sigh! She remembered the tall skinny goofy looking me!
