Four For Friday - 90's Date Rapist

Back in the early  to mid 1990's is when this actor was at his peak. He still acts now, but generally they are just one offs on a show and he is lucky to get a couple of them a year at most. There are just too many people who know his past and won't give him a job. If someone does hire him, they probably have not heard, but are soon set straight. On the show for which he is most well known, he took the virginity of this current A lister. It was not by choice. She won't talk about it now, but she told people back then and word got out. It didn't get out fast enough for him not to be cast in what should have been a huge role. His role got cut after a few episodes though when it was discovered what he had done on the last show. While on the current show he did the same thing to an actress who was used for background work on a fairly regular basis. After he raped her, she basically got out of acting. That began his descent into just run of the mill acting jobs. The only other rape I know of that he committed was when he gave GHB to an actress we all know. She did a movie with the actor and at a cast party slipped the drug into her drink and then offered to take her back to the hotel where she was staying. Everyone thought he was being nice. The actress has continued to work and as I said, everyone knows her and she is multiple Academy Award winner/nominee. She also says she has never been the same person since that night.

Never heard he was a rapist but I do know he was and may still be a junkie. I think he got hooked on Meth thus the reason for his career slide.

Perfect Stranger was 2008 & CSI was 2000...also he was voted sexiest guy by TV Guide in 2008--- he was a drug addict & had domestic abuses charges brought against him though.

Even insinuating someone committed a crime will earn you a libel suit. Enty is trying avoid that. That said I would like to know who this is.

True- thinking of real early 90s and sleepy I think of David Caruso being at his peak- he did a film with Helen Hunt called Kiss of death(she's a multi nomes AA actress), but show he is most known for is CSI Miami- 2001

I am aware and understand the implications of disclosing the perpetrators. My point is that I really don't care to read about this type of incident (or Chi-mo) here.

  19. Corin Nemec maybe? Milla Jovovich was in an early episode of Parker Lewis Can't Lose and later in the 90's he was in a movie with Angelina Jolie.

Luke Perry? Big on TV in the 1990s, no longer working much, plenty of candidates for victim #1 on 90210. Maybe Hilary Swank for A-list victim # 2? They were both in the film of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and she's won two Oscars.

  22. HeatherChandler4:54 AM

Hillary Swank was on 90210. She had like a 3 episode arc where she played a single mother.

  23. HeatherChandler5:00 AM

Luke Perry. Hillary Swank (90210), Ashley Judd (Normal Life, movie).

    ReplyDelete
  24. Soapy5:21 AM

I don't think it's Hillary. She was already married to Chad Lowe when she was on 90210, so it's doubtful anyone took her virginity on that set.

Trying to understand...did he rape an A lister AND an academy award winner/nominee? Or is that the same person?

Ok. Not Hillary, but Jessica Alba.

Adrian Paul for the actor. Was in Highlander in the 90's. The A list guest star would be Marion Cotillard who appeared on the show at age 17 or 18. The movie is Love Potion #9, and the multiple Academy Award winner is Sandra Bullock.

    Really good guess.

  36. Jess Sayin'8:18 AM

Doubt it's Cotillard for "took her virginity" on the TV series, as she has 1 AA win and 2 noms, but Enty only calls that victim "an A-lister". (Also, not specified as "foreign-born".)

I do agree that Sandy (sadly) sounds like a good candidate for victim #3 (raped after a movie wrap party), with her being "someone we all know" and a multiple AA nominee/winner.

#2 wouldn't be identified by our knowing her, but simply indicates that the rapist got another TV role after his big show but before his film with Sandy, and got eased out the door pretty quickly. So that should be helpful in tracking his career, I guess.

Off to IMDb to look at Bullock's '90s co-stars…

Interesting. Paul had a following who pushed for him to be the next 007 awhile back, but he didn't get far with that. He was married for several years, too.

Devon Gummersall (Brian Krackow from My So-Called Life)

    "Took" Claire Danes virginity

Was written off Felicity after a few episodes--His character was written as a rapist.

Oscar nominee--Michelle Williams. They filmed the movie Dick in 1998.

His acting resume is pretty weak. IMDB shows all his "one-off" rolls. He started a new show this year on the TNT network (whatever that is) but it is supporting and only half a dozen episodes. The show is called The Last Ship.

Have you read the news lately? Men get away with it no matter what. If she had reported, it likely would've ruined her rather than him.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Jess Sayin'9:28 AM

Ooh, that could be it. MSCL was only on air for one season, so there may not have been time for the news on "Brian" to get around town.

It was a few years until "Felicity", but in between he did "Relativity", the David Conrad-Kimberly Williams romance drama that gave Lisa Edelstein (as Conrad's lesbian sister) her first big break. Gummersall played Conrad and Edelstein's younger brother, but the part didn't get nearly the play his siblings' stories did. And then ABC canned it after one season, same a with MSCL.

Small flaw in the theory is that Matt Damon was to have claimed to have taken Danes's virginity during the filming of "The Rainmaker" in '97, but of course if Claire had been raped before that she might not have wanted it publicized. (I was actually at the premiere party for "Rainmaker"; Damon was very cock-of-the-walk, Danes noticeably less so. And of course he dumped her for Minnie Driver soon after.)

Perhaps it's no coincidence that Claire started being "mentored" by Jodie Foster soon after MSCL's cancellation? Jodie directed her in "Home for the Holidays" (1995) and ducked out of appearing in "Hannibal" (1999) because she said she planned to direct Claire in "Flora Plum", which was put on hold when Danes went to college for a couple of years (at Jodie's alma mater, Yale) and ended up not getting made. I don't know if Claire ever fully became Jodie's "protege", but it does look as if Foster was sniffing around for a while, there.

By the way, Gummersall's current gig, "The Last Ship"? Exec produced by that friend to women everywhere, Michael Bay. (Not saying that Bay would condone rape, but he does seem more inclined to give a "victim" of "gossip" a chance, I'd guess.)

  43. Guesser9:29 AM

Impressive guess, he's not someone people would think of.I don't want to get into the victims , if the rapist is guessed the others are fairly easy. Enty knows his nineties shows.

Anyone who is raped has the right to not consider the rape to be the loss of their virginity.

  45. Malibuborebee10:09 AM

    Interesting.

I doubt that it's Luke Perry. I doubt it's any of the guys on 90210. You can never be 100% sure but I know people who worked on that show (and on Melrose) for years.

Perry was a very decent guy, nothing appalling with women that I ever heard of. Jason Priestley was a really nice guy who had some personal issues, raping virgins or any kind of violence wasn't among them. Ian Ziering was kind of a dick but not violent. I doubt he raped anyone. Shannen Doherty was the most violent person on that show. She was seriously psycho-evil and violent (yes, everyone feels sorry for her these days but I am unforgiving).

Horsey McUndeservedOscars didn't make much of an impression when she guested. I'm not sure who she blew to get the gig.

Re David Caruso, he actually first became famous as the star of NYPD Blue in 1993. He got even more famous when he quit the brand new hit show after one year to go be a movie star, which didn't work out.

  46. Derek Harvey10:37 AM

Also, it was speculated that ABC WOULD consider bringing MSCL back the reason it was not going to be renewed was Claire wanted to do movies. Maybe she wanted to do movies but I always thought it was strange how she simply refused to return to do another season...

An online fan campaign attempted to save My So-Called Life, the first such event in the history of the World Wide Web.[8] The arduous schedule and the mental and physical demands of the production of episodic television, however, caused difficulties for the young actors who had to balance schoolwork with rehearsal and time on the set. Herskovitz said Danes and her parents approached the show's creators and told producers that she did not want to be involved with the show if it continued for a second season.[23]

"When she heard that Danes was no longer keen to continue with the show, Holzman's attitude changed as well. She said, "When I realized that Claire truly did not want to do it any more, it was hard for me to want to do it. The joy in writing the show was that everyone was behind it and wanted to do it. And I love her. So part of the joy and excitement and happiness would have gone out of me if she had not been on board 100 percent. I wasn't able to say this at the time, but in retrospect it was a blessing for it to end at a time when we all enjoyed doing it. That's not to say that if the network had ordered more shows that I wouldn't have given it my best. But there was a rightness in how short the season was. This was a show about adolescence and sort of ended in its own adolescence. There was an aura about how short the series was like all things that die young. The show ended at a point that it was still all potential."

  47. It doesn't say when they got famous though, says the show they are most known for which for Caruso is CSI and so he can't fit. I like the Gummersall guess but I also think he has a big enough role on that ship show that's it's not a one and done. I keep seeing some actor in my head but don't know his name, he was on Law and Order a while?

I know you are too young to have been as taken with the show as those of us who saw it during it's first showing, I could literally match a classmate with every character, also the teachers and parents.Something happened to Claire Daines, and while I hope this didn't happen, she was said to be on the verge of a breakdown,at the age of 14 or 15.It makes her career as an actress today more impressive.

J for first victim / M for second?

  50. Chris Noth came to mind but I just saw that he has another gig but I know he was shady as shit, at least for a while there.

    Now I'm thinking E.R.
A few have gone off the radar.
Edwards, Wyle, Visnjic and La Salle haven't done anything, that I know of.

  51. LauraOK4:35 AM

@You - "J" works for the first...not sure we'd know the second mentioned (background work and then left acting)...I'm going to hate myself for this, but Jeremy London was in Reese Witherspoon's debut film, "The Man in the Moon" when she was about 15-years-old. She's definitely a multiple Academy Award winner/nominee, and someone we'd all know. She also would have some "power" to get the message out about someone's actions (and prevent many future roles). London was a trainwreck for years. Have NO idea if this is correct, but it fits. Going to take a shower now...ugh.

    ReplyDelete
  52. You may be right.11:27 AM

My "M" was Mira Sorvino but if you think it's Reese I will defer to you. I absolutely think this BI is about Jeremy London.

  53. What about Stephen Collins from 7th Heaven?

    ReplyDelete
  54. LauraOK9:45 PM

My "Man in the Moon" guess was based on its release date in 1991 (the 90's theme of the blind). Yours is good, too, but by 2013, London's behavior toward women/girls and drugs was well known, and he would have been on his best behavior (maybe even sober). Either way, I hate having to throw possible victims names out to guess the creep, but I guess it keeps Enty from being sued.

Im going to throw Tony Danza into the ring, as I read years ago that he harrassed Delta Burke when she guested on Who's the Boss. Virgin would be Alyssa Milano. Who's the Boss ended in 92, so conceivably could be called early to mid nineties. Who was the AA nom/winner her rufied? Don't know but like everyone, I prefer to know the name of the perp rather than the victim.

He did a movie in 1980 with Michelle Pfeiffer, 3 time Oscar nominee.

  58. You may be right.4:25 AM

I think you meant 2003 instead of 2013, but in truth Gods and Generals was filmed in 2001.

I also don't love throwing around victim names, it kills me that this type of behavior continues to go on unchecked.

    ReplyDelete
  59. LauraOK6:10 AM

Ha! That's what I get for typing at 4:45am! Actually, I meant 2012, the movie was "Smitty" - I'd forgotten about Gods & Generals. That puts MS and JL in two movies two movies 11 years apart. Hummm...not sure if it's MS, RW, or someone else entirely, but Jeremy London was well known for perpetrating violence against women, in addition to general bizarre behavior.

    Isnt Danza a good guy?
