Unless I actually know them and met them face to face at some point in my life I don't consider "online friends" to be actual friends. They can be considered "online acquaintances".

  3. With Sandy and Troll on this. Am suspicious of those who have "a lot of friends" and never seem to be with them but are constanlty on social media. Sigh...

My friends are all squirrels and haven't yet mastered the whole social media thing, they think it's kinda stupid when they can just visit their friend's tree. Although I know a few who have taken squelfies.

The same number. I am only online friends with people who are already friends in real life.

Well, that makes more real life friends, because a couple of them do not use the internet.

Not only do I not have on-line friends, I have no real friends, either. I am a total pain in the ass and obnoxious to boot. And proud of it.

Looks like we're The Island of Misfit Toys.
In reality, people suck and we're the smart ones.
I don't get the whole multiple best friends thing. They need to look up the definition of best.

I think its the wrong question here Enty: the demographics of your site and the age of its commentores are all above 17... So yes, we all have more human friends than on line friends....

Despite having a reputation for being a hermit-techie type who rarely leaves the house, I actually have more real-life friends than online friends (even after cutting off a bunch of leech famehoes for believing a rumour that wasn't event true and wanted to benefit from those rumours, I still have more real-life friends). And besides, I was duped online by someone who made me think I was their girlfriend for the longest time, so I prefer people who I've met IRL. People are more attractive in person.

I like being friends with people who don't have to make every hang-out/outing into a social media photo-op to show the world how "social" they are. We just hang around and talk nonsense or watch stuff. I know people who still are able to watch a film/performance without compulsively posting about it on social media (even I can't do that anymore). Like, I'll be at some event with a speaker and one of the famehoes would constantly try to chat with me the entire time instead of listening to the lecture, yap-yap-yap (she's just there for a photo-op, essentially—no loss in cutting people like that off).

Real-life friends are also lower-maintenance: You don't have to always talk to them on IM/text all the time, but you just sort of know they're 'there', does that make sense? Watch a film and catch-up, but not too often. With online friends, I have to set reminders to respond to them, and when new messages arrive, I just get 'social anxiety' strangely. It gets draining.

Well, fewer FB friends, because FB has been taken over by people reporting the latest in politics. I was caught up in it, but had to stop, it was actually making me sick. People have disappeared. Trying to post funny videos, cartoons, art, anything but the crap going on.

  19. I ONLY have real-life friends. If you get the title of "friend" from me, it's because we've been through some shit. Online friends are just sad.

  20. I do consider some of my online friends as actual friends as i found that i opened up alot to them and actually met them later after a few years. It really depends on what you want and looking for.
