Today's Blind Items - Cocaine Career Crash
If I asked you who killed their career the hardest during this back in the day primetime network hit you would guess this actress. Guaranteed. You would be wrong though. Oh, she did her fair share of things and displayed some truly awful behavior and impressive drug use. But, it pales in comparison to what her co-star managed to accomplish. Her co-star was already on double secret producer probation after basically trashing her former hit show and walking away from it while signed to a contract. Her departure crushed the show.
When I say someone does coke 24/7, it is usually an exaggeration. Not this actress. When she was awake, she was snorting. Paycheck after paycheck went to coke. She partied every single night. This was one of the biggest shows on the air. She was in demand. There was nothing she couldn't ask for and she did. And did. And did. She was a nightmare. One of the biggest shows of the decade and she was fired and had to watch someone replace her, playing the same character and cashing all those huge paychecks. Did our actress work again? A handful of one off things, but nothing else.
Shannen Doherty replaced by Rose McGowan on Charmed?
ReplyDeleteThis is so vague it could be a number of shows
ReplyDeletePamela Sue Martin replaced by Emma Samms on Dynasty?
Amy Locane replaced by Heather Locklear on Melrose Place?
Lisa Kelly the 70s show?
ReplyDeleteShe's dead but it doesn't say the actress is working
ReplyDeleteThe other one is Tanya Roberts?
ReplyDeleteLauren Tewes/The Love Boat
ReplyDelete"back in the day" y'all know how much I hate when Enty uses this term. I just thought of Lauren Tewes from The Love Boat replaced by Pat Klous. This really could be anyone's guess.
ReplyDeleteThough she was replaced by a character that played her sister I think.
ReplyDeleteThat's who I guessed below-but Pat Klous played her sister Judy-not Julie Mcoy...
ReplyDeletePlaying the same character? Okay, here is our list to choose from. I definitely thought it would be a shorter list...

Someone on Dallas? Dynasty? I'm not well versed enough on any of these to have an immediate (incorrect) answer to "Who on that show killed their career?"
It did not crush the show, she was a minor character
ReplyDeleteThe Shannen guess is quite good but would you really consider Charmed one of the biggest shows of the 90s? And if you do, who's the other BH 90210 star who killed her career?
ReplyDeleteMaybe Pamela Sue Martin being replaced by Emma Samms on Dynasty with Linda Evans being the one who left that "crushed the show".
ReplyDeleteSorry, I meant who's the other Charmed star who killed their career
ReplyDeleteI think the Pamela Sue Martin guess is right. Heather Locklear was well liked while on Dynasty,Pamela was replaced by Emma Smms in the same character, and the show didn't do as well afterword, although Enty is exaggerating of course.
ReplyDeleteCatherine oxenberg With Dynasty
ReplyDeleteCharmed wasn't network it was the CW
ReplyDeleteThe co-star on double secret probation crushed a previous show by leaving it while under contract.
ReplyDeleteMy first thought was Pamela Sue Martin being replaced by Emma Samms too but her leaving did not crush Dynasty at-all. Her co-star could be either Catherine Oxenberg or Kathleen Beller.
ReplyDelete+1 replaced by Karen Cellini.
ReplyDeleteOther costar who partied being Heather Locklear.... because Oxemberg was a "princess" she likely acted entitled
Great guess!
I wonder if this is Three's Company. Suzanne Somers and Joyce Dewitt. (?)
ReplyDeleteBut Oxenberg's departure didn't end Dynasty. The other guesses? No one mentioned replaced someone by playing the same character.
ReplyDelete"Back in the day" for some reason made me think of Charlie's Angels with Farrah, Kate and Jaclyn
ReplyDeleteROFL! Love, love, LOVE the "double secret producer probation" mention !! Thank you Enty or Entern...or whoever wrote it. Made me belly laugh.
ReplyDelete**For those who don't know - it's from Animal House.
Valerie Harper?
ReplyDeleteYes, but from what I recall, it wasn't the same after that. And didn't she get heavy into drugs as well?
ReplyDeleteShannen Doherty-- Charmed. Rose McGowan replacement. Alyssa Milano the co-star?
ReplyDelete@shakey -she was a cokehead during LB but not sure what else-yeah the show sucked after (I was a devotee lol).
ReplyDeleteSarah Chalke?
ReplyDeleteI was a big fan of LOVE BOAT back in the day as well, but by the time Lauren Tewes left, the show was already on a downhill slide. Lauren was on the show through season 7 (1983-84). Everybody remembers LOVE BOAT as a "70s show" - it was not as popular in the mid-80s.
ReplyDeleteNot network.
ReplyDeleteScratch that. Stupid guess. Trisha prob got it with Lauren Tewes.
ReplyDeleteWhat would truly be scandalous:
ReplyDeleteCharacter: Gladys Kravitz. Actresses: Alice Pearce (1964–1966), Sandra Gould (1966–1971).
Alice Pearce died of cancer after her second season on the show.
ReplyDeleteSmells like "Roseanne" with Roseanne and Lecy Goranson as the culprits. Granted, they are both back in the reboot, so I guess somebody wanted to work with them again. Snort 'em if you got 'em.
ReplyDeleteOf course 90% of this one (basically everything save for "playing the same character") fits "Charlie's Angels" and "Three's Company" as well.
Now that I think about, "Dynasty" is another possibility (Joan Collins and Pamela Sue Martin, with Emma Samms her replacement).
ReplyDeleteI always use that refrence at work and i get the side eye!!! Lol Rip Flounder!
ReplyDeleteLoved the 2nd Gladys Kravitz!!
ReplyDeleteSuzanne Somers threes company??
ReplyDeletePlus McGowan played a different character.
ReplyDeleteDewitt doesn't work for the costar. Not rated that high and didn't leave a hit show.
ReplyDeleteI did hear she did coke 24/7...
ReplyDeleteThe actress replaced was a coke-fiend & the replacement played the same character so not Three's Company, Charlie's Angels, Love Boat or Charmed.
ReplyDeleteMakes sense except what previous hit show was Lacy in that she would trash?
ReplyDeleteSusan Ward left Sunset Beach to do a movie, came back with massive breast implants and a new boyfriend (the son of the guy who owns the movie studio) but sans her fiance. Show got cancelled and she's barely worked since, apart from men's magazines. Not famous though.
ReplyDeleteOoh there used to be juicy stories about Tanya in the 80's after Angels when she made those erotic straight-to-video films. Don't know if they were true.
ReplyDelete"Makes sense except what previous hit show was Lacy in that she would trash?"
ReplyDeleteWas Enty referring to two different shows here? I was a little confused, so I tried putting the text into one of those "Entertainment Lawyer to English" word translators, but the translation came up as one single show, with "former hit show" meaning the same one with the co-star. It's Enty, so, you know, sometimes it's hard to tell. But if he meant two different shows, then definitely Pamela Sue Martin, who also had to be replaced on "The Nancy Drew Mysteries" (which wasn't even close to a hit). Of course since it's Enty, chances are this entire blind was completely made up.
Pamela Sue Martin left Hardy Boys/ Nancy Drew after Season 2. In Season 3; it was just Hardy Boys, then cancelled. I think that is the show that was crushed.
ReplyDeleteI think I translated the blind!First, he mentions an actress that we think is the big druggie on the show, Perhaps Heather Locklear.. Her costar, Pamela Sue Martin left a different show The Hardy Boys/ Nancy Drew series. She caused the show to be cancelled. In spite of being on producers probation, she was cast on Dynasty, and she was a hit. She then started using and causing trouble, and was fired, with Emma Samms replacing her.Dynasty actually killed her off before replacing her.Dynasty did pretty well fo a couple of years,it was the other show that she caused to fail.I does turn out Pamela has a chronic medical condition that causes extreme pain, that may have worsened her behavior during this time.
ReplyDeleteI watched Nancy Drew Mysteries,so I felt like it was a hit, It probably was hitting the right demographic,it was first combinedwith The Hardy Boys before being cancelled.
