From a British friend. It was so long I just left it as is. I would have made it confusing trying to summarize.
This foreign born (A list in his own country) double threat who has tried hard to become a triple threat has been married to this much younger former D-list actress for some years, and they have several children.
They met when they briefly worked together. She and her father would have you believe it was love at first sight, and that he pursued her. Not so. Right after they worked together Wife gave interviews raving about how much she liked our Actor, how hot he was, and how great he was with her son (born when she was in high school). At the same time Actor was non-exclusively dating a couple of other women and was papped taking random women back to his place for sleepovers. Wife grimly hung in there for over a year as a "friend" while Actor dated around, before finally started dating her. The casualness of the relationship didn't stop her from getting his name tattooed on her arm a few months in.
After a year of this, and coincidentally right as he was planning a solo move stateside, she announced she was pregnant. Actor spent the next 5 months "dithering" over whether to remain in the UK and commit to her and the baby, or go through with the move and financially support her to raise the baby alone. This dithering cost him the lead in an American romcom movie and almost led to his US agent dropping him. No one cared what he did in his personal life, only about the constant back-and-forth and indecisiveness. He ultimately decided on her, proposing and moving in with her shortly before she gave birth. On marrying, Wife changed her and her son's names to Actor's non-legal stage name, with him eventually also changing his name and lying in an interview that it was because SAG rules banned actors from working under anything but their legal name. He's spent much of their marriage working on projects that require 6 months+ location shoots, family remaining in London. This has caused a lot of gossip in the UK industry, and a degree of sympathy for Wife. On the other hand why keep getting pregnant when your husband takes every opportunity he can get to avoid home?
Her behaviour since has cost her a lot of that sympathy. Her acting career faded after the abrupt cancellation of her two biggest projects, and a failure to land more than walk-on roles. Five years of "writing a screenplay" resulted in nothing. Most recently she has decided to become a producer, her husband agreeing to finance and star in her best friend's screenplay to give her her first producer credit. No distributor will touch the vanity project despite the buckets of cash Actor has chucked at it. Bad luck, but if Wife wants her new career to take off she's going to have curb her behaviour.
For one thing, her obsession with what's said about them, and her hatred for his fans. Monitoring everything said about him online and on Twitter isn't enough (two people, a Radio 1 technician and an indie film director, are on the record as having been on the receiving end of her tantrums after tweeting behind the scenes photos of him without her approval). Since their marriage she's been monkeying around with a fake Twitter account, pretending to be a Wife-hater, in order to spy on other Haters. Two women who ran an anti-Wife blog found that photos of their young children were regularly taken from their locked Twitters and reposted elsewhere with vicious comments, which stopped when they blocked her.
There are three other men in the picture, Father, A, and B. Wife's father, a faded former A-lister now reduced to minor reality shows infamous for his lack of discretion, he has given intimate personal stories about their relationship to the media from the first time they met (and had tried to hook them up for a few years before this), in order to boost his and his daughter's profiles.
A is Wife's ex-partner, who raised her eldest son from infancy despite not being the biological father. That now-teenage son continues to call A "Dad" and to live with him part-time, despite Actor legally adopting him a few years ago.
B is Wife's long-time best friend and "writing partner" who for convenience sometimes stays at Wife's house when Actor is living abroad.
Actor (who is known for demanding roles for his friends, casting two of his best friends in the hit West End stage show he financed and executive produced) regularly gets both A and B small acting roles in his various projects, to the point both of them have him to thank for their careers. Odd and incestuous, or an emotionally mature act of generosity?
To further complicate matters, prior to his marriage Actor's constant companion was a female crew member who worked on several of his TV projects and accompanied him to all his interviews and red carpet events. She is openly derogatory about Wife on social media, and spent their wedding (for which she created one of her three elaborate videos homaging Actor) tweeting to ask if it was normal to not be able to stop crying hysterically at a wedding. God knows what her then-fiancé "B" (yep, the best friend and live-in "writing partner" of the wife she hates so much, who she started dating right after Actor got Wife pregnant!) made of it.
It's amusing for fans, because the two couples now regularly go on vacation together, leading to a battle of passive aggressive social media statuses. Wife spends the vacations posting about how romantic and wonderful Actor is and how great it is to be alone with him. Female Best Friend spends the vacations complaining that the entire vacation is being spent playing board games and that she is spending the evening drinking alone in her bedroom and staring at the wall to avoid another Scrabble match. Sounds romantic!
Actor is now seriously attempting another major campaign to break America, buying an LA apartment and flying over every chance he can get. Wife appears happy enough staying in London with her children, her friendship with B, and her "producing career."
David Tennent and Doctor Who daughter
ReplyDeletedavid tennnant and hsi wife (Peter Davison's daughter)
ReplyDeleteDavid Tennant & Georgina Moffet or Laurence Fox & Billie Piper
ReplyDeleteDavid Tennant and his wife Georgia and the teenage kid she had fit very well
ReplyDeleteThat's definitely D. Tennant and his wife
ReplyDeleteA flowchart should have accompanied this tale.
ReplyDeleteI have attention span of a child so gave up on this halfway in
ReplyDeleteYes, this is clearly DT and Georgia Moffatt. The story about him trying to 'break' America and her getting pregnant having been going around for ages. She has a bit part in a crime show on BBC1 at the moment, and she seems to have changed her name to Georgia Tennant, so maybe she's trying to revive her acting career.
ReplyDeleteYou got further than I did. :)
ReplyDeleteWho is the best friend though?
ReplyDeleteMore crazy British blinds, please! Actual human beings doing the best they can. Insanity! Unheard of.
ReplyDeleteOver here, the two warring sides would just line up dueling publicity firms and gossip sites and eventually everyone would get bored and end up hating them both.
Uh, can we get a powerpoint slideshow for this?
ReplyDeleteSo, so obvious. I don't even follow Tennant's exploits (well, haven't in years) and I knew what this was immediately. Too bad his character got killed off in Jessica Jones. His other US attempts at fame have been dismal - terrible pilot in which he had an awful American accent, weak American revamping of Broadchurch, in which he had a terrible American accent, etc.
ReplyDeleteTennant is the perfect UK TV star, but is too weird for US audiences. Better to stay home with icky wife and the kiddies.
David Tennant.
ReplyDeleteI Ain't got time for this, Enty.
ReplyDeleteDavid Tennant and Georgia Moffett. Nothing new here. All of this is well known and documented on countless websites. Not sure even why it is BI. Completely nuts set up which seems to consist of wife very carefully curating their "happy" life on social media which suits both as it posits him as family man/nice guy and her as loving supportive partner. Reality is he spends most of each year filming on location including outside UK and sems to keep her happy by throwing money at her various interests. Even his closest friends have described him as having a steely determination to put his career first always. Tennant is well known for using his influence to get friends roles in various projects. Insecurity or generosity? More recently there was a "to do" when he insisted his last theatre production use (and pay for) his wife's photos for official publicity .He is also financing a vanity project film for his wife and one of her friends which is unlikely to ever be released. Guilt or supportiveness?
ReplyDeleteWorst aspect is how wife's parents both separately use their in law relationship with Tennant who is a big name here in the UK to promote themselves. Mother had interview on morning television just this week about her latest stage show where she threw in loads of personal anecdotes about Tennant. The entire family shares a love of self promotion.
Tennant remains desperate to find success in the US and relocate there so it is ironic that a year or so ago he made a huge public deal about overriding planning permission for extensions to his London house as he claimed that he and his family never wish to move and are part of the community. I assume his constant appearances on the US convention circuit are financing the LA move. Most likely wife and kids stay in UK and come to US over summer as has been pattern last few years. Personally my sympathies are completely with wife. Nasty streak or not as claimed in this blind, she is the one left holding all the kids and having to cope without having hubby around for more than half the year while keeping up the happy facade.
This blind is too long
ReplyDeleteAlso nobody over in the US knows who this guy is. Sry dude, maybe stay across the pond?
Guest starring in Poldark currently and getting great reviews for a big baddie part. Another one who name drops relationship with Tennant and wife in publicity. For someone who reputedly likes privacy about his family, there sure are are a lot of friends only too willing to share a lot of info!
ReplyDeleteI agree. I didn't even read it and just went to the comments. I don't have the patience to read a novel.
ReplyDeleteIt needs a good Diagram....
ReplyDeleteThis is rather unfair to Peter Davison, portraying him as being relegated to minor reality shows when IMDB shows he's been in one over a very long career. He does, however, show up in West End shows (aka London's Broadway) often. Usually starring roles in "real" shows, not panto - and not secondary parts. And he seems to pop up in a new BBC or itv comedy series every year, so someone likes working with him.
ReplyDeletewho, who, who and who?
ReplyDeleteTL;DR. Must come back later
ReplyDeleteWhile I'm a Doctor Who fan whose fav Doctor is actually Davison, here's what I got for the rest of the players assuming the Tennant/Moffett guess is correct:
ReplyDeleteFather is Peter Davison
A is probably Adam Paul Harvey, her only named ex I can find (and they did a family pic calling Ty their son)
B is Christian Brassington
Best friend is probably Jennie Fava, who is now married to Brassington.
David Tennant - popular British actor relocating to the States, Georgia Moffat - wife with vanity producer credit bankrolled by husband. Yawn. Most of this is on the record already or widely known about and discussed to the point of boredom. No need for blind item status as there is nothing new here. Mostly just previous reveals from this site and well known information stitched together. Some very telling pictures papped by the UK press a couple of months ago showing them having a raging argument in public. Shrug. Whatever their arrangement, it has worked for a few years now, so good luck to them I guess. Also, he's too old, un-botoxed and unusual looking to score a new career in the States. There are too many way bigger British talents like Mcavoy, Hiddleston, Cumberbatch, Hardy and Macgregor to compete with.
ReplyDeleteI should add "allegedly" after all this in case Actor's eagle eyed lawyers are reading this. They are *very* good at keeping Actor's image squeaky clean and have had material removed from sites before.
ReplyDeleteAlso, what are grown women with children doing being 'wife haters'? Get a grip. Whatever Tennants relationship is like, the chances of him leaving his wife for some internet losers is zero.
ReplyDeleteWhen I read this I immediately thought of Martin Freeman and his ex-wife who goes to town with her social media detractors. But no, of course the clues better fir someone like David Tennant and Moffat's family connections.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure that Tennant's 'quirky' appeal will fly with US audiences who have a myriad of accents within their own country but struggle to understand the first person speaking English with an accent from outside it. I think it's just ignorance myself. However, if Tennant can land a non action-hero, looks-are-not-everything role in a medical drama or a police/crime series then he could find a niche. It worked very well for Hugh Laurie, a fellow Brit who really made a mark in the US with House and has moved onto other things since. If models and singers can land acting roles in five minutes just based on looks and internet popularity, then trained, skilled, brilliant and long-standing actors like Tennant should be at least given a chance.
"If models and singers can land acting roles in five minutes just based on looks and internet popularity, then trained, skilled, brilliant and long-standing actors like Tennant should be at least given a chance."
ReplyDeleteTo clarify, that means Hollywood/big US acting roles.
They should be given a chance, but often they are not, especially in the big bucks Marvel films. Because internet popularity means that their fans will go and see them, whether they are any good or not. I think you need to completely relocate to the US to really break through, like Karen Gillan did, but he obviously cant do that, because he has a lot of kids, some in school here.
ReplyDeleteI watched the British version of Broadchurch (excellent, BTW) and I had to turn the subtitles on because Tennant's accent was so thick. Not ignorant, either.
ReplyDelete"Allegedly", Actor's longstanding desire to relocate to States is nothing to do with his relationship with Wife but rather his dislike of British critics and industry whom he believes haven't sufficiently recognised his serious credentials as an actor but who treat him more like a celebrity, as well as the sleight to his own very strong self belief given all of his attempts to break there have crashed and burned and he has a resolute focus on one last go at cracking this at all costs. Further, US critics are still charmed by his geek credentials and that he has a connection to the British theatrical pantheon and are fairly fawning compared to British critics, many of whom have a sneering dislike of him as a lightweight or as an actor who has sold out for easy money. His ad campaign with Richard Branson and role call of voice over parts in shlocky kiddie films are often cited. Actor has had bustups with particular journalists and a couple of outlets love to highlight his failures in excruciating detail as well as purvey any infrequent juicy gossip about relationship with Wife. The amount of shade thrown by a few newspapers at couple over the recent pap pictures showing them arguing heatedly in public was truly something. Fortunately Actor is super discreet unlike Wife and her Family and hangers on, so there are very few public tidbits for the paps. Actor has recently come off an embarrassing flop on the stage, a vanity production in which he was a foul mouthed lothario which received career worst one and two star reviews and was only seen by sqeeing fans and shunned by serious theatre goers. Last serious film was so poor it has never been fully released and was canned by those few critics who bothered to review it. He has had two big television hits over the past decade and despite their huge popularity, he has never received any critical acclaim or award nominations for his own role in either, despite orher cast members and the productions being garlanded. Actor is now too ubiqitous and too expensive to cast on British television, so makes sense to relocate to States to try to relaunch a new career there as so many have done. While he is not untalented, his continued inability to deliver a convincing American accent as well as his very specific range as an actor and his lack of convential good looks or physique, advancing age and lack of stereotypical English posh factor ala Cumberbatch and Hiddleston means he is likely to remain just another Brit in LA. Hopefully Actor hasn't burnt too many bridges back in UK. Imagine Wife and kids will remain in UK while this all plays out. Don't know anything about relationship apart from the stuff in the BI which has been documented countless times but as his PR relies so much on his good guy and family friendly image, can't see what would be a very nasty divorce any time in his immediate future. This would really affect his UK career. Relatuionship, whatever it is and how many other people it involves seems to work, so good luck to them I say.
ReplyDeletePeople in the industry tend to give a snort of derision any time the 'family man' card is played. This is a guy totally and utterly devoted to career who swanned off to extended on-location shoots within a couple of weeks after each child was born and who has barely spent more than a handful of weeks in sequence living at home with the family in any year since they moved in together. Moving to US makes sense as it allows for scope to combine the single actor's lifestyle and work schedule which he misses while keeping the family in the picture for regular visits. Will probably add up to same time with family as he manages now. Complete sympathy with the loyal wife.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it is about his need to work constantly to advance his career, not about sex and drugs and rock'n'roll like you get with gossip about other actors with marriages under scrutiny. Apparently both of them are pretty dull IRL.
ReplyDeleteCurrent "holiday" in US is essentially an extended work trip for actor. Presume well wall to wall meetings, sound outs, auditions and Disney publicity with a side order of conventions on the weekends. Lining up work for more permanent move next year? Doubt family will have seen actor any more often than if they had stayed behind in UK. At least the weather is better I guess.
ReplyDeleteand shes pregnant again-noone is forcing her to keep having kids-hardly being left to bring them up
