Your Turn
First thing other than people or animals you grab in case you have to flee your home because of fire.

Purse and family photos collected over years
Yep, I was thinking any money in the house.
My portable meth lab
My phone as it also has my ID and debit card with it. (And I'd probably be running to my firehouse to come back and fight the fire with the benefit of water and fire hoses :)
phone, purse, maybe laptop, and a small box with all of the concert ticket stubs I've had over my life. It makes me really happy to look back at them.
Anderson Cooper had a fire at his apartment, and called 911. When the operator asked "how do we get to your home?", he replied "Well, I'd expect with one of those fancy red trucks".
Portable safe that has important papers in it.
Phone and iPad- I can run more than half my life with them - Is that bad??? ???
Most safes are fireproof.
Phone
My Guns & Ammo.
(I know. Not politically correct.)
But, bullets burst when heated by a fire with the slug aimlessly firing off.
Important papers: birth certificate, social security card, passport, tax forms, etc.
Do the USA not give you a copy if you ask for it? I think I would be given (after paying) a copy of all of those here if I had lost them. For instance: some friends lost their identity card, they just had to make a new one.
It is, but it's a nuisance, especially if you don't have a picture ID. Someone dealing with a fire doesn't want to go through that.
My purse. It has my wallet, my keys, my tablet, the one medication I need every day, some makeup, and a sweater in it. Everything else, aside from the cats, is easy to do without for awhile.
laptop
We did this when my daughter set the oven on fire. I grabbed the 200+ year old grandfather clock that's been in the family for generations.
bottle of Belvedere and my passport and birth certificate
Car keys and laptop. If I have a few seconds more, a gob of coupons to Bed Bath and Beyond.
Ss card, purse, jewelery box, mortgage papers and grandmothers picture from the 30's. I packed my car up when a wildfire was nearby. Everyone thought i had over reacted but it helped. Especially with shoes, and work clothes.
OMG you would not believe the hassle in getting a new ID here if you lose it.
Communications/work gadgets (phones and laptop) and my copies of "A Study in Scarlet". Is this a trick question?
Oh, right. Car keys! Thanks for that... ?
Holy shit. I meant "A Scandal in Bohemia", I'm so absent-minded and forgetful... Now I'm beginning to wonder how I'd respond/react to an actual fire emergency. ???
You remind me of those stories about the Grenfell tower. One girl went to sit an exam in her pyjamas. I hope people haven't forgotten.
Jewelry and mementos.
Our house burned to the ground when I was 13. We had no time to grab anything but the car keys because the fire was in the walls. Just get out, things can be replaced and the smoke gets thick quickly
Always save the vodka
Agreed. Once had a total loss housefire. The only thing I took was my 18 month old daughter & the clothes on our backs. Life is the only irreplaceable thing. Period.
Pocketbook.
