Today's Blind Items - Long Time Coming

When I started putting out feelers to former child actors who had worked on his movies, I was surprised how many people wanted to tell their stories about working for this permanent A+ list director. They come from all different backgrounds and sexes. Most have never worked as adults as actors, but a couple continue to make an effort and a couple have succeeded.

I started reaching out to them through an old friend. A friend who once had a large role in a hit movie for the director. A friend who until recently, never told me about the dark side to filming a movie with the legend. One thing he said resonated with me and I asked each of the others the same question. Most responded in the affirmative. Some said they wished they could remember but it had been x number of years or others said they really didn't want to think about it too much because it triggered them.

The query was whether the "back story" of the character they were playing had molested. Their answer was yes.

One actress who responded yes, said as an adult, when she looks back, she realizes how ludicrous it was that the back story of her character would involve being molested. It doesn't make sense in the story line sense. She was only in first grade when she made the movie. It had a lot of young kids in the movie, although they were older than her.

She remembers a cast "bonding" experience. All of the young actors and actresses were loaded on to a tour bus. Everyone was impressed because each seat on the bus had a DVD player waiting for them as a gift to take home. Back then, those things were expensive. The trip took about two hours from LA and they were served all kinds of kids food on the bus. She remembers the all you could eat candy.

So, they get off the bus and arrived at this huge ranch. Who was there to greet them with the director? This permanent A+ list singer. There were also other men there who she remembers hearing were studio executives. She doesn't know if they were.

She does remember walking around this carnival as she put it and seeing the executives pairing off with a couple of the actors or one on one. She says they later told her that most were molested or groped. For her part, she says she was just repeatedly groped. There was a carousel ride and one man insisted on putting her on a different horse each time and would lift her and grope her each time. She says she freaks out whenever she hears carousel music.

My friend from so long ago says his experience differed slightly. There was no tour bus. There was just him and a studio tour. He was older tan our actress above. He was in that sweet spot our director loved. The director kept telling him his back story and talked about being molested and wondered if my friend had been molested. The director then started touching our actor and did so throughout the entirety of the movie like it was perfectly normal.

Another actress who was a teenager when she made a huge movie for the director says that she wasn't given a ride on a tour bus, but instead, was given a ride on a helicopter with her younger actor co-star. They ended up flying to that same ranch north of Los Angeles. When the helicopter landed, that permanent A+ lister was waiting there with the director. Also there was another actor from the movie who is probably B list today. The actor was sent off with a group of men to the carnival while she was followed by this B list actor who asked sexual questions one after the other and excused himself multiple times. She assumes now he was going off somewhere to pleasure himself and then come back after. It was hot that day and she remembers him drenched in sweat and just a pig in so many ways.

She said she has talked to actors who didn't even get to act in a movie directed by the director but were still hired to help develop the back story of the adult actors because they might use some flashback shots. All these actors added to the totals molested by the director and his friends. Every movie seemed to have any kind of reason they could to find teens boys and girls that could be molested under the guise of developing their character.

@Himmmm, I would agree that being married to a gay or bi woman could mean nothing, Except SS had to pay out a large fortune to his ex Amy Irving, under the pretense of Kate being the love of his life.I think it means more than you care to admit, and Spielberg has more to hide than anyone wants to admit.

@ itttt, so right about Robin Williams and Dustin ever being less than A list, anytime.I think we are getting too close to the truth, the director needs to be someone held in high regard, not easily suspected, and could be referred to as a legend.

This essay by Adam Parfrey was originally published in 1993 in Answer Me! magazine re: Spielberg & "primarily deals with possible themes of pedophilia in his movie, "Hook." :

http://www.steamshovelpress.com/latestword13.html

The essay does not show up on Adam Parfrey's website but this page from 2011 is quite interesting:

http://feralhouse.com/pederastic-park-returns/

Lastly, while further researching "Pederastic Park", I found this eye opening blog post from 2014:

http://internetisinamerica.blogspot.com/2014/03/steven-spielberg-king-of-child.html

I close with this paragraph from a 2003 MJ article in VF by Maureen Orth:

"I have an adage," says William Hodgman, head of the sex-crimes unit of the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office, which investigated the Jackson sex-abuse allegations in 1993. "The higher the profile, the stranger are the phenomena." Fame twists everything, he explains. "It's all that money swirling around in all different ways—especially with the tabloids, which were often three steps ahead of us. Information was bought and sold; documents disappeared. It's all part of the wildness of celebrity."

Movie: 1999 Star Wars Episode 1
Director: George Lucas
Carnival: Neverland Ranch (Michael Jackson lobbied to play Jar Jar Binks"
Actress: Keira Knightley was 14 in StarWars Episode 1
Actor: Jake Lloyd

The timeline fits with portable DVD players coming out.

Justasking said...

Ent Lawyer, would you clarify one thing with one of your sources? Was it a DVD player, or a laserdisc player. 1990 would be prime time for laserdiscs. In other words, was it for those big, LP looking discs? Or was it smaller, CD looking discs?

DVDs weren't around until 1999. It makes a difference.

This has alot of truth to it. Remember the now infamous molester talk episode on the 2 Corey's reality show where Haim was confronting Feldman about Feldman knowing very well who Haim's molestor was in the time that it hapoened and yet Feldman was adding fuel to the fire so to speak by bringing Haim's molestor around and hanging out with him afterwards. Something to that affect.

It would be great to include casting agents, managers, pr firms, studios and production companies, acting schools, etc. The whole industry needs a scrubbing and safe list. All of these professions/businesses should also have at minimum diligent HR departments that enforce sexual misconduct laws in the workplace among the many other areas they represent. They are suppose to be the ones monitoring employee relations. Enough with the casting couch, hotel/apartment auditions. In a real and professional workplace, you conduct interviews in an office setting with your clothes on. Why should the film industry be any different?

I’ve been following CDAN on and off for ages and used to comment a long way back, even submitted a foto or two for reader’s fotos years ago. Not even sure if this was my original handle?

Lately, this site has gotten its vitality and sneaky and nearly premonistic relevance back-so glad to see it on the one hand, and yet, it’s all so depressing, on the other.

So, not so much pertaining to the specific details of this blind, but more in line with the guesses of others, I’ll add this: I’ve often wondered about some of the backstory regarding Empire of the Sun and a very young Christian Bale. According to wiki, recommended for the role by Amy Irving after he played the young Tsarevich Alexei on her miniseries Anastasia. Had a difficult time with the press campaign for the film, afterwards, plus a difficult history with family and being a young star, which was all dredged back up after the drama surrounding his leaked screed against Hurlbut on the set of Terminator: Salvation. His name comes up less than most when it comes to child stars and blinds, but I surmise he didn’t have an easy go of it? Thoughts?

Universal Studios wouldn’t be the only studio you could tour particularly in the company of a major heavyweight director, but I also thought of it first as well. But there have always been private studio tours/access at all the other major and minor studios/lots. Of course, many directors/producers/production companies rent or have space/deals on lots including Universal...

Definitely thought of Christian Bale as possible candidate for story #2: Enty’s friend. I presume the friend mentioned at the beginning is one and the same as the friend who tells story #2. If so, “large role” could refer to either the role or the size of the actor. The “sweet spot” age appears to be tween to early teen (10-15?), as he was noted as older than the first grade (6-8) actress in story #1:

“I started reaching out to them through an old friend. A friend who once had a large role in a hit movie for the director. A friend who until recently, never told me about the dark side to filming a movie with the legend. One thing he said resonated with me and I asked each of the others the same question. At this point I'm ready to boycott everything coming out of Hollywood, every time I see a trailer for a new movie I wonder what abuse happened on the set of that movie.

This was right at the time when it was happening - when the police had just raided his place and they were talking about finding the magazine and pictures.

Anyway, we were on a recording session and I asked this musician during some small talk, "Hey, you've been around MJ. You think he did it?"

I remember his response exactly, "Man, I ain't gonna say if he did it or not, but if that shit walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it must be a motherfuckin' duck."

@Ur girl herel - great find!

This paragraph stood out to me:

"Salva’s history rightfully caused numerous production delays on “Jeepers Creepers 3.” The Union of British Columbia Performers (UBCP) made an official warning against Silva and urged actors not to audition or accept a part in the movie after a casting call revealed Salva was looking for an 18-year-old to play a character whose stepfather made “overtures” at her when she was 13. Salva left this backstory in the film for the theatrical cut."

Can we please have some sort of PUBLIC list composed of warnings of the sort that the UBCP puts out?

If there is already such a list, it needs to be made public. Now. And across all media platforms.

Himmmm said...

Uhh...look friends. A few things to remember about "good people" in Hollywood, and a list we put together - off the tops of our heads - five years ago...

It is relative. Those people listed were people personally known or worked with, and our experience was they were stand-up people. No more, no less.

Some of you may have a friend or co-worker or relative that you love and enjoy being around. But to someone else, that same person could be an ass. Everyone has different standards. PLUS, as has been shown recently, nobody can ever know another person's secrets. Some people (Spacey, Harvey, etc) are known. Others may shock us.

The point is - I (or we) am/are not an OFFICIAL CLEARING HOUSE CERTIFIED AGENCY for guaranteeing people are "good". It's subjective. Likewise, it is literally impossible to list all the "good" people anyone knows, much less in Hollywood. Gary Sinise IS a good person (at least to me). While others may hate him just because of his beliefs. I may dislike Jennifer Lawrence but that doesn't make her a criminal or "bad" person - I just don't care for her.

Celebrities are no different than anyone you know in normal life. If a salesman at a car dealership in your town gets arrested as a pedo - maybe choose to take your business elsewhere. Or if they fire him, give them your business. Or maybe that teacher back in high school was your favorite, and was a "good" person to you. Years later he's arrested for beating his wife while watching kiddie porn. Point is - there's no 100% sure "list" of all good or all bad. Just people's opinions/experiences.

Unless it's Lena Dunham. Pretty sure there's nobody who can stand her.

Unknown said...

@Emma, you're right, we shouldn't forget that molestation can happen anywhere. There are two things that set apart Hollywood (and a few other organizations) for special treatment, though:

1. The massive amount of money available for burying stories. If Mr. Bob of Bob's Malt Shoppe molests one of his counter workers, he doesn't have the money to pay off the parents, the cops, the judge, reporters, a team of lawyers, and some Russian men in black suits to threaten troublemakers. A-list Hollywood types do. (Maybe even B-list types do, based on a blind about Steven Seagal.)

2. The fact that Hollywood (not every individual, of course, but the industry in general) positions itself as our moral and intellectual superiors, teaching us how to dress, how to live, what to eat, and most of all how to vote, always how to vote. Why did a has-been like Kathy Griffin think her little Trump stunt was a good idea? Because Hollywood. She was on a middling TV show once, so we should all accept her lecturing and feel ashamed if we voted "wrong."

They never had any business doing that, but now we're going to find out exactly how obscene it was, that they lectured us. When this is all over, the next actor who accepts an award and starts giving a lecture about climate or sexuality is going to get pelted with rotten fruit, or worse.

On first read, this blind screams either Spielberg or Lucas. But I can't help feeling that such obvious pointing towards either of them would be incredibly risky to post right now unless there was confirmed and imminent likelihood of them being publicly outed very, very soon. (As a side note, can you IMAGINE the fall-out? Tons of DVDs would be chucked into the recycling bin and some very difficult conversations would be happening with our son about why "we don't watch those movies any more". We've had brief conversations about Spacey and Weinstein due to what he's heard on the news but he's 10 and largely unaware of who they are.)

How about Kenny Ortega? Not sure he's A-list or "legendary" but he directed the High School Musical movies, Descendants (and the second) plus Hocus Pocus - lots of kids in those movies... Long working relationship with Michael Jackson (including several tours and the This Is It docu) too.

How can this blind not be about SS and MJ?

I feel sick about SS, but Jackson....come on. So what if Feldman defended them? Doesn't mean he wasn't lying. He got pay-offs, was threatened if he didn't speak up positively, or both. No brainer.
Jackson was more than just a misunderstood weirdo. Have any of you ever seen the interview he made with Martin Bashir? He came off as a delusional retard, who couldn't string a coherent sentence together, and lived on another planet. I don't believe he ever had penetrative relations with a kid (thank God), I am more into believing the Just saying theory: masturbating int he company of prepubescent boys and shit like that.
But he was not some innocent choir boy. He was creepy as fuck with his 'that's ignorant', 'you're ignorant', 'people are so ignorant'. Glazed over eyes, weird eyeliner, waxy face, almost no nose, high pitch little girl whisper voice...
MJ was a bloody nutter.
There could have been a million reasons why him and Spielberg fell out.

Mel Gibson a 'good guy'? You're having a laugh or what? Good guys don't threaten to kill the mother of their kid or punch them in the face.

So I've been giving this some thought, and we all seem to be stuck on making SS work. And while we can, if we do some gymnastics, there is another name that could work just as easily, and has the same connections: Chris Columbus

The old friend Enty hints at could very well be, as some people mentioned, Jeff Cohen, entertainment lawyer, who appeared in THE GOONIES, which Columbus wrote and could theoretically have been on set for. Michael Jackson certainly was:

http://www.slashfilm.com/michael-jackson-the-goonies-set-videos/

The teenage girl with the younger costar could likely be Angela Goethels, who was 13 when she made Columbus's biggest hit -- HOME ALONE, which was HUUUUGE at the box office -- with her 10 year old costar Macauly Culkin. The sweaty B lister could very well be Daniel Stern or John Heard.

As for the first grader with the DVD? In 1999, Columbus made BICENTENNIAL MAN, (y'know, right after DVD came out was still pricey), which starred '90s "Pepsi Girl" Hallie Kate Eisenberg (and a whole host of other kids) who was all of 7 years old (first grade age) when she acted in the film.

in other words...all the pieces essentially fit, much better than SS.

As for Columbus being pemrnanent A+ list? ehh, he's seen better days, but then again when you've written and/or directed the number of classics he has (including GREMLINS, MRS DOUBTFIRE and the first HARRY POTTER) it earns you a lifetime pass.

Even though I don't know whether or not this timeline fits for Hook, it reminds me of something a bit odd. I went to college with one of the Lost Boys from Hook (not Dante Basco), majoring in the theater dept. He was a musical theater major and gay (not that his sexuality has any large impact, just that it seems many boys who were molested are gay). He also doesn't really have any major credits to his resume besides this small role in Hook. However, whenever anyone would mention anything about Hook to him, he would get INCREDIBLY upset. It's one thing when you have people like Mandy Patenkin or Rob Schneider who have long resumes getting upset that someone would bring up a 20+yr old famous character, but this guy hadn't really done much else. He would get legitimately upset, even denying that he was in the film. It was very weird at the time that someone would become angry at being involved with such a beloved film, but all these reports coming out have made me realize this might be why.

This is kind of interesting re SS in this context, bit more sinister. From 2010 Independent article on Dreamworks:

"'A never-used motorcycle is always parked outside Spielberg's office, Laporte [Variety reporter/author of The Men Who Would Be King,'alleges, "so that, in the event of the unthinkable, he has a getaway.' Employees are kitted out with 'survival kits, including jump suits, gas masks, and other essential emergency gear' in case of a natural disaster, or terrorist attack.

His properties are scattered with rocks containing hidden microphones, which allow him to communicate with staff, she adds. Above his desk, he keeps a plexi-glass half-moon dish, so that sound does not reverberate and phone calls remain private. Assistants like to call it his 'dome of silence'.

'His passion for secrecy sometimes suggests a burgeoning near-paranoia,' claims Laporte. A spokesman for Spielberg says otherwise: 'This description is so far from the real world of Steven that it doesn't deserve a comment.'"

This is a reach. There was a movie called "What a Girl Wants". It had a song in it called "Long Time Coming". Was directed by Dennie Gordon who has links to everyone and everything you all have been discussing; both in this thread and others:

"...Gordon first gained recognition when her script for a Hard Rain was chosen by Showtime's Discovery Program. Thanks to Steven Spielberg, a rough cut of her film attracted the attention of George Lucas who donated the film's mix at Skywalker Ranch. ...

A Hard Rain caught the eye of David E. Kelley who enlisted Gordon to helm multiple episodes of his television series including Picket Fences, Chicago Hope, Ally Mcbeal, and the Practice. Gordon has directed over 100 hours of network television including such critically acclaimed series as Power, Madame Secretary, Rectify, Power, Kingdom, the Office, 30 Rock, Suits, White Collar, Burn Notice, Outsourced, Sports Night, Everybody Hates Chris, and Hbo's Tracey Takes On, for which Gordon won the DGA Comedy Award. Gordon recently filmed her third episode of the AMC period drama Hell On Wheels.

On the feature side, Gordon directed the teen cult hit Joe Dirt starring David Spade, Christopher Walken and Dennis Miller, New York Minute, and What a Girl Wants starring Oscar Winner Colin Firth, Amanda Bynes, Dame Eileen Atkins, and Jonathan Pryce. ..."

Just seems like if the title was a "hint" - this would tie in most of the players in question...ll

This is really troubling. I really wish Lucas and Spielberg are good people. I can't think of anyone else for it.

But one this that gets me is the story regarding the "first grader". Someone of that age frame would be about 6-7. Now, the young girls that come to mind in Spielberg's film are Dakota Fanning from War of the Worlds and Drew Barrymore from ET. However, the description makes it sound like an ensemble cast filled with children. Also during the time period of DVD (97-03) releases, Spielberg wasn't doing many kids films or films with kids. Anything later would imply DVD players price would slow down, or HD and Blueray would be the next big thing. I have yet to find this first grader actress.

Other A-list directors that pop to mind include Tim Burton, Ron Howard, and John Hughes. But I don't think that first grader story fits to any of their movies at the time. Also, I don't think theres many kids in their films. Also Hughes is more of a writer than a director.

Ron Howard also had Taylor Momsen in the Grinch movie. There are a few kids in the flash back of The Grinch's back story I guess. hmmm. Thats a pretty interesting thought. I also remember faintly that Jackson was on his 2nd trial during the production of The Grinch. Thats pretty odd. Also some of the movies he directed have children present, but not to the extent of Spielberg. The way this one sounds implies he does any children movies.

I don't know what to think about it. I really wish it wasn't Spielberg. I don't know if that clip from American Dad was 100% talking about him or an "Ira Siegel/Cybill" whoever that is. I've seen a comment claiming they were talking about 2 different people with that gag.

This could be a red herring with some of this info. But even then all I can think about is ET or War of the Worlds. Also, if it is them, wouldn't Enty mention that they were A/B list or something? I'm sure that would be a mention if it was Berrymore or Fanning.

Any thoughts? I just want to be skeptic since Spielberg just sounds like a fear answer.

I wonder if they meant to say CD player. That would make more sense.

@Arthur Striker
I believe it might actually be Laserdisc

Interestingly enough, Cameron Thor was recently convicted of sexually assaulting a young girl a while back and he was also in Hook, so I take take it Spielberg had a good relationship with him to have him around Neverland Ranch, despite having a very small role in JP as Dodgson.

Why would he make the blind look like Spielberg and have it be about someone else?

Okay. My first post here. I wanted to approach it in a spirit of being a Devil's Advocate.

But Spielberg just seems to fit.

His films (and Lucas's actually) rarely focus on any strong or useful female roles. He's obsessed by roles in which women are shrieking and shrill and frequently hostile to the world of men. Either that or they are tomboys, virtually bereft of any socially accepted signals of even vague femininity and boys in all but raw biology.

He focuses on an adolescent or all-male realm - yet one curiously detached from any sexuality. Any boy growing up will tell you they'll (for the heterosexual ones at least) be thinking a lot more about Tinker Bell than spending quality time finger painting Robin Williams.

I was worried about this. But, then I recalled reading somewhere (I think it was You'll Never Eat Lunch...) that Spielberg was drawn into the orbit of self-help guru John Bradshaw - who popularized the notion of embracing the inner-child - in the early 1980's. It took a decade before Spielberg would produce Hook. Maturing, no doubt, the ideas.

It reminded me of the scout master who spends waaaay too much time with the troop at camp when swimming. Sure, he could honestly be a pied piper - hoping to lead us to a higher place of mental clarity by asking to embrace love and an inner child. But, if Spielberg and Co were scout masters, wouldn't we look more askance at their activities and motives?

I know this post is 4 months old now but another read led me here and I wanted to chime in a bit.

We have to remember that if it is actually DVDs being talked about, what we the public have access to, including electronics, is different than what the rich and movie makers have access to. While DVDs were coming out in the late 90s'/early 2000s, Hollywood may have had access to them in the mid 90s, or even earlier. It also could be a red herring as others have said, and have been a different type.

Another possible red herring that was mentioned by another commenter (sorry, I'm on my phone and scrolling up and down to find username is difficult) and that I think was interesting was that the singer may not be an actual singer, but Bryan Singer instead. Looling back, the writing never refers to them as a musician and even just calls them an A+ lister at one point. So that's definitely possible. Still could have been MJ's ranch, and maybe he was there, but maybe they were just using it or it was another ranch and they rented carnival things on occasion.

If the teen girl is from Jurassic Park then I think the B lister would be Wayne Knight as it emphasizes that she says he was a pig in different ways. I think she's not just referring to his mannerisms but his weight as well. I think it's a clue. Jeff Goldblum has always been a creepy creeper imo but he's more like in between an B and A lister and I don't think someone would refer to him as a "sweaty pig", essentially. I can't imagine one of the main stars, Neill, following around his teen costar while she's being annoyed by sexual advances by him. Her age and younger costar do match up to the description. However, that all could be a coincidence. It also does not say that the time she was there was when DVD players were given. So that could be anytime.

I would like to also know how those transcripts between SS and GL were accessed that another commenter posted? As in, how do we know they are real? Where did they come from? If they were so easily accessed why hasn't that been leaked by someone before? Since they are basically justifying statutory rape by saying the victim came on to him, I can't imagine why that never came out and yet it's so easily found on this comment thread. Saying she was promiscuous and came onto him is irrelevant for the scene, it's not mentioned as a line in the script so it would be pointless for him to say it, unless he's getting his jollies from it.
If those are legit, then there definitely could be merit to these claims and they should be shunned like everyone else who has been found out to be a sleaze, even just by words they used. But if not, then that's going shake the foundation of what anyone else says here or anywhere about them. And I'm not saying the commenter who posted here is making it up necessarily but that maybe where they got it from was by someone making it up or the originally source anyway. And not saying it is made up, just that there aren't any sources as to where it came from. I didn't even know they had transcripts for script sessions. Is that a thing?

For those who have mentioned the cast of kids being from Harry Potter, including the first grader being Emma Watson: she was not a first grader during that movie. They were all preteens at that time. It was definitely not them. Not saying it wasn't Chris Columbus just that it doesn't make sense for the HP cast.

I would not like to believe it is either SS or GL, but if that transcript is legit, it makes me go towards think ing anything with them is possible. Also the fact that various shows (South Park, American Dad) have implied something's up with them, it makes you wonder what other info about them is out there.

Either way, it's really sad to think about how many children were abused and had their innocence ripped from them simply because they wanted to be apart of the magic that is making movies. And that no one has felt they could tell, continuing the actions by the same perpetrators, probably rallying new people into their circle.

When does it get told? When every single person comes forward and are willing to say it at the same time? That seems to be the only way that works. I think the time is now.

I think Enty’s friend is Charlie Korsmo who was in Hook. Was listening to the podcast and Enty said mother friends hasn’t really worked since that movie. Charlie was in Can’t Hardly Wait but not much else. He’s also an Asst Law Professor at Case Western.

What are you talking about? You would play a movie on it... laser disc players were huge in the 80’s

SilverGameDog said...

So you’re saying if it doesn’t fit your narrative, throw it out? Lol
It’s a part of the story. You have to make it fit.
Same as the actress playing someone who was molested. That doesn’t work either.
Everyone wants so bad for it to be Spielberg and Jackson.
To me they seem far too obvious.
