Today's Blind Items - The Arsenal

When you think of celebrities, you rarely think of them as having an arsenal of guns at their disposal. Combine that with an orgasmic love of firing them any time anywhere and a fantasy of making a real life snuff film and you have the subject of our blind today. I bet you thought the subject of our blind is male. Nope. She is a B list director and a celebrity offspring of a permanent A lister.

Back in the day when she was a college student, she bought one gun. Apparently she liked showing it off to people and would randomly fire it during parties. The next thing anyone knew, she had dozens of guns. Most people would probably keep their guns locked away in a safe or out of reach to visitors. Not our offspring. She kept them all under her bed and all of them always loaded. When she would have parties at the apartment her father bought her, you were almost guaranteed to see her fire one of them. Yes. Inside. If anyone complained, her dad would write a check and the problem would go away.

He was always making her problems go away. One problem that even he would not be able to go away is her real life fantasy. Apparently she has always wanted to make a snuff film. A real snuff film and has described in detail how she would get away with it and convince the audience it was just f/x. There is a script she keeps trying to get made that would be a snuff film, but that would involve a real death. At some point she is going to get it made. Right now it is in the form of a limited series type of event. When you see it made, you really should ask yourself if it is an actor that gets shot in the movie or if it is someone else who was killed.

    1. Just no. Have you seen her films? She is not some sort of Tarantino.

  11. Jennifer Lynch's made that film "Boxing Helena", it made me raise my eyebrows, it was weird to say the least, it takes someone messed up to make such movie.

  12. David Lynch is definitely big-time. His daughter fits.

Sofia is A-list since she's who most think of when they read "female director". Also, she seems normal level of crazy. :)

  13. OMG Boxing Helena was Jennifer Lynch's movie. That's enough for me to say she is the future murderer in this blind.

    1. How can a man that felt this way...." "He must have known it would make waves, he's not daft. But clearly, when it comes to animal rights and animal welfare, he's absolutely unshakable in his beliefs. In his view, if you treat an animal badly, you are less than human."... be the man that killed animals in his youth? That was the one thing about this performer that did not fit the Blind and that's a very strong point. It's got to be somebody else.

  18. Jennifer Lynch talking about what David Lynch told her about Surveillance:
He was completely horrified. He said “You’re the sickest bitch I know. You can’t have the forces of darkness triumph over the forces of light.” He challenged me to write a different ending for the film, which I did because a daughter always wants to make her daddy happy—and I don’t mean to sound sexual when I say that."

It's about the ending of the movie, but still a strange thing to say to your daughter.

Just not feeling Morrissey for the Monster.

Although M can be obnoxious, his music was more moody than dark, and displayed too much empathy. Never associated with physical violence.
And I'd guess his youthful drama came from boys, not girls.

First name that popped into my head was Arnold, because his childhood seems a match. But he's never really been a dark figure, and his sexuality is straightforward.

Clive Barker (those parties!) and David Cronenberg have the whacky interests, but neither seems less than genial.

    Who dammit, who???

    1. I agree. He's a strong animal Advocate and that is the one issue that does not fit this blind for Morrissey.

I don't know who it is either. I keep digging around. Trying to think outside of the box a little. It keeps tugging at me though.

  29. easy d. i have trouble with morrissey being the answer too. his name was brought in by himmmm, who was adamant that that's the answer, tho he'd said he had no clue earlier in the day.

i think that enty and himmmm are playing good cop, bad cop with us to weaken the grounds for any libel suit that might arise. if enty strongly indicates someone and himmmm negates it, then the aggrieved party can't say that cdan's out to get them. (as enty and himmmm are perceived to be almost partners in the site). pretty smart thing to do. but if i'm right it means we can't look at himmmm's comments as gospel.

Sweetness I was only joking when I said by rights you should be bludgeoned in your bed.

That being said, I don't think Monster Icon is Morrissey.

  31. Jennifer Lynch seems crazier than her Dad,unless of course he did rape her, which might be why she has guns. Morrissey is not the Monster, too young, too handsome, too gay.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I've been doing a lot of thinking on the Monster Icon blind too. Some aspects don't seem to fit Morrissey at all-he was a star athlete in high school and has always been conventionally good looking, plus animal cruelty doesn't jive with his long-standing veganism and animal rights activism. I could actually see the Mozzer as a serial killer or serial abuser of human beings more easily than as an animal killer, though hypocrisy on any issue is hardly unprecedented in human history.

That having been said, Morrissey's rep in the UK is definitely a lot darker than it is here in the US. Americans tend to think of him as just a harmless fey British dude with a bunch of mopey lyrics. In the years right before he moved to the US, though, the Mozzer had begun flirting (literally as well as metaphorically) with elements of the far right and organized crime in the UK (training boxing with chaps tied into soccer hooliganism, gangsters, and neo-Nazism; lyric shoutouts to the National Front and the Kray Brothers;). The backlash from all of this is a big part of why he chose to move to LA in the first place.

There are also a ton of song lyrics about murder, rape and violence in general (from "Suffer Little Children" to "Last of the Famous International Playboys" to "First of the Gang to Die" and "It's Not Your Birthday anymore"), apparently a lot more sexual/romantic interest in young women than his surface image might suggest (a decades long affair with Tina Dehgnani mentioned in his autobiography, lots of circumstance suggesting sexual involvement with other younger women in the music scene like Hannah Scanlon and Kristeen Young), and a lot of time on the road in countries with plenty of violence and sketchy situations involving the disappearance of young women and cover ups (e.g. Mexico). And finally he's had a long history of being signed to record labels connected to Universal Music. I'll let some other google sleuths follow up on what that might suggest, given the "big bad" in some other recent blinds...

Anyhow, all of this suggests that at least there might be some reasons for Himmmm to want to caste shade in M's direction even if he isn't the true subject of the "Monster Icon" blind. I'll keep on pondering myself-as always excited to see what the rest of you come up with...

  37. Love me some Himmmm, but the first to guess Morrissey on the Monster blind was me, not Himmmm (haha, see what I just did there??). I also mentioned that Morrissey didn't totally align, clue-wise. His animal advocacy being the most obvious example...

I co-sign with the Jennifer Lynch guesses for this one.

  38. I guessed Lynch from the first paragraph.

But I'm not sure I believe this. We have mutual friends, and while I've never been to one of these wild gun parties, I've haven't heard of these antics either.

She was trying to raise money to direct a movie based on a book, The Caine Batter, about a 90s grunge unrequited love story. Not sure if the blind is talking about this.

Another strike against the Morrisey theory: the blind suggests someone older, from the era of WW2 chaos-postwar austerity. And a "permanent A lister" to boot. Anthony Hopkins and Arnold seem better fits (though I doubt its either).

The creepy sex parties that Clive Barker threw, with blood swapping etc stick out. But like the other creepy artiste Cronenberg, he seems like a genial guy.

    Eric Clapton?

  40. i can't believe people are guessing Sofia Coppola?! have you guys even seen her work?

anyway, i love her and i can't BELIEVE she would dream of wanting to do a "snuff" film where real people die! regardless of what kind of films she grew up watching her father make! no no no no NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i have a weird fire arms story but i'm not sure if i should share it...

because i think it would reflect negatively on me (but it was SO fascinating to me pyschologically, because i'm from a country where it's not common for regular citizens to own guns like in America—hell, the idea that living in America means the person standing in front of youin a queue could be carrying a gun freaks the shit out of me).

anyway. i was in a play where my character handles a gun. i'm not a professionally-trained actress, i studied the same useless shit Amal Clooney studied (never formally studied acting, learned my accents on YouTube. LOL). so i can't function without my props early on. so i buy a wooden toy gun (it was slingshot gun that fired rubberbands, but it was shaped/sized like a proper handgun a real cop would have, fit nicely into adult-sized hands, but it was wooden so it was very light, it was handmade and well-crafted almost like some sort of hipster toy). i'd take it to rehearsals every week.

the first time i started holding it, i was scared of it. despite it being a slingshot gun. i would be lying in bed trying to get into character, and i would NEVER point the barrel at my face/body/self. we're just not used to guns in the country i live in... then i got used to swinging it around at home.

eventually we got a proper toy gun to use on stage. AND IT WAS HEAVY. modeled after the real thing. cold metal. i think i remember reading "9mm" on the gun. the first time i handled it, my right hand was sore when i got home (like it triggered my autoimmune muscle/joint pains because i wasn't used to handling such things). it wasn't mine, so i don't take this one home (so never got used to it on my off times, just at rehersals). but there was a "weight" to it, if you know what i mean.

i had a stalker. the stalker wasn't just your usual stalker (normally when you think of a 'stalker', it's usually someone who comes over every night at Benedict Cumberbatch's show at stage door or something). but when you're just a small time Z-list actor like me, your stalkers will have better access to you (and you're a lot more powerless because you can't demand extra security). the woman who stalked me was a scheming type. she started wormed herself into my life by casting me in a film via mutual friends, next thing you know, she knows everyone i know/at every venue i frequent, and torments me with my triggers (like starts talking about ) at events she knows i'll be at. so she became co-producer (i think she got there via yet another mutual friend—so she's already used TWO mutual friends, and i can't say anything about it because it's not my friends' faults that the stalker used them and i REALLY don't want them to feel bad). this woman even threatened to harm one man i had a crush on John Hinckley-style.

the stalker was so relentless that one of the ways she found a way to get near me (because i was running away to avoid her triggers/mental torment) was she'd GET ON STAGE (as stagehand, despite actually being a "co-producer") during actual performances and she would almost rub herself against me while i was seated (in character) because she knew i couldn't run.

so one night, the night with the biggest audience (she knew it was being recorded) i lost it, i was SO TERRIFIED at how UNSTOPPABLE she was (it was a show with a paying audience this time). in the scene where i yell around with the gun, i lost my shit and just started pointing it at her (it was frantic top-of-my-lungs screamng too, maybe it was hammy AF). IDK why. i was just so scared but i couldn't scream for help.

  45. I know this blind is "old" now but I finally just got around to reading the interview @Don Kieballs posted a link to, with the quote about David Lynch calling Jennifer Lynch "the sickest bitch [he] knows" for the ending of a movie she wrote/directed, Surveillance. In the same paragraph Jennifer talks about relating to a couple Surveillance characters: "Certainly the character of Stephanie is who I was. Julia's character is who I was afraid I was going to become." Out of morbid curiosity I looked up Wikipedia's plot summary. Apologies for the spoilers but...The big reveal at the end of the film is that Julia, supposedly an FBI agent, is actually one of the serial killers she's been pretending to investigate. Stephanie is a little girl whose family Julia and her male "partner" slaughter. After her family and like a dozen other people are already dead, Stephanie calmly whispers to Julia's partner that she knew they were the killers the whole time. Also, not for nothin but a major subplot involves snipers hiding in the woods by the side of a road...Cool cool cool cool. Sickest bitch indeed.

    1. Haha yep. I'm pretty dubious about the MJ Anderson claim that DL raped Jennifer a la a certain famous character of his (given that Anderson seems to live in Pizzagate land these days and was happy to take checks from Lynch for decades until they weren't big enough for him anymore), but Jennifer seems to have a complex about outdoing /outweirding her dad in some kind of competition. FBI agent who turns out to be a serial killler-what does that sound like people? The Caine batter novel is some kind of 90s music homage so I imagine there's plenty of room in it for some Kurt Cobain references?
