Blind Item #11 - Standing Ovation

So, do you think if this current Oscar nominee who is not one of the two mentioned in the earlier blind item wins, everyone will give him a standing ovation? A lifetime casting coucher? If you are female and wanted to be in his movies, you hit the casting couch. There is a blind I wrote many years ago about him and an actress ALL of you know who got a role because he made her have sex with him to get it. I think it ended with her looking up at an award or something while he was on top of her and that she thought he seemed nice. There is a postscript to all that. That experience shook her and she started drinking and doing drugs to cope. I wrote about all of that in separate blind items and how she lost a baby because of those drugs and booze. To this day she has never told me or anyone I know who the father of that baby was that she lost fairly well along into her pregnancy, but the top choice for the dad is this current Oscar nominee.  I could go on and on about this nominee, but you just go ahead Hollywood and give him his standing ovation if he wins and talk about what a great guy he is.

100% a director based on the wording. I'm going with Guillermo on this one.

  8. Would be more likely to be producer/director than an actor. PT Anderson? Nolan? On the producer side, Jason Blum is nominated for producing Get Out. Scott Rudin for Lady Bird.

  9. Denzel would work because I think he produces many of his movies.

  10. Woody Harrelson/Juliette Lewis-Natural Born Killers....
He did it with Rosie Perez as well in WMCJ

  11. This is Denzel Washington, whom the #MeToo movement is knowingly turning a blind eye to because many agreed to it

  12. Denzel has also director three movies. Del Toro could work simply because it sounded like she had to look elsewhere rather than him and he was a nice guy.

  13. Spielberg for The Post?

    2. Tricia, You are right his demeanor kind of sounds like in this blind, actress thought he seemed nice.

What else she said in the blind, I think he was creeping on 18yo girl or something? Don't know if he'll get standing ovation, but I totally believe it's him.

    3. 😞Standing Ovations mean nothing anymore ... sad. They used to be merited, and often for people with character and real contribution.

  16. Denzel wouldn't get a standing ovation. Nobody saw his movie, and he already has two Oscars.
Scott Rudin, producer of Ladybird might, because it's such a "yay woman" movie and that's a big deal right now.

If I'd seen any of those blinds mentioned, I might have a better idea.
    Does anyone remember them?

  21. Del Toro- probably not. he hasn't been a big award winner before this, closest he ever got was Pan's Labyrinth.

Scott Rudin is openly gay so, definitely not him.

I would believe Harrelson. A friend of mine was crept on by him, apparently he was trying to casting couch her. Also do you guys remember when he had all that drama in a Reddit AMA about Rampart? he got called out for having sex with a girl at a prom party. http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/events/woody-harrelson-reddit-ama (Sorry, i can't find a better source and i'm in a rush!)

  24. Rudin is gay.

This seems like a director. I'd say Del Toro because he's the frontrunner and "seems like a nice guy," but I can't imagine a female pinned underneath him and surviving the experience. He's massive. Nolan by all accounts is a devoted family man but you can never tell with people I guess.

If it's not a director then it's gotta be Denzel. Eva Mendes/Training Day, for instance. All females must sleep with him to get into his movies.

  28. Denzel. He won't win, though (HOPEFULLY). He only got nominated because he's THE Denzel and gets nominated any time he comes near a movie, pretty much like Meryl. He produces and directs, too (even got an Oscar nom last year as a producer for Fences).

  32. Is Saana--who I really like, but--really " an actress ALL of you know"?

Denzel seems normal Hollywood creepy. Woody Harrelson seems Deep State dangerous creepy--Dad was one of the "hobos" at the JFK assassination and a notorious gangster, he's done a lot of strange (though often high quality) esoteric/occult/secret society projects like Oliver Stone's NBK and JFK, Larry Flynt, plus the undeniably amazing "True Detective" thing.

I was glad to see "LBJ" flop. We don't need a hagiography of one of the key guy's behind the JFK killing. Which makes it doubly odd Woody performed that role, or maybe not.

Everybody named "Woody" in Hollywood should be suspect....Woody Allen, Woody Harrelson, Woody "Wood""Pecker" (!!!), Sheriff Woody (when he's voiced by Tom Hanks).

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I met him and Oliver Stone right as they wrapped NBK in a restaurant in NYC... Stone is as much of a flagrant ass as one would think, And Woody was stoned AF.. fairly polite, but extremely lascivious. Leo D was randomly there with David Blaine who was his buddy at that time and he wins the biggest doucher award of all(for lots of reasons).
And I agree about the Dad and family history... it was never a — -9-5 we kind of life he would likely live, but there’s a deep element of -unsavoriness you wouldn’t necessarily get off his “interviews “(which he’s good at)

    2. How are you able to enjoy film and television while knowing all you do? The Weinstein story broke, then Spacey, and I couldn’t watch anything for about 2-3 months. I know I’ve read about it all here for so long but I guess I was able to tell myself it was just gossip. This is all really ruining the fun of film for me.

      Delete
  33. @Tricia and @Alexandria - You mean the Hunger Games BI? Woody was not revealed, but this is about him: "There was one actor who I mentioned above who was a pothead. He was basically treating this movie as his personal playground. It did not matter if you were gay or straight or old or young, he was going to hit on you and if you were up for it he was going to have sex with you The guy must have had sex with two different people each day and is married so it was kind of disgusting. He was probably the biggest star that everyone wanted to meet when he was on set and he knew it. I also heard he took photos of a lot of the girls he had sex with. He never tried to hit on me, but he did hit on this girl he thought was 20 because of how she looks but was really 12. I also have never seen anyone so stoned act that well. He was very good."

The one who was into teens and would creep up on people was also not revealed, but the clues fit Wes Bentley.

It is disappointing. But it’s been there all along. Think about how often Washington has an established leading lady (usually someone his age like Viola Davis). Now think of the frequency of him in movies (often with sex scenes like Training Day, Flight, 2 Guns, Out of Time, etc) with younger “up and coming” actresses. This is by design and producers/agents cover for him. He rarely works opposite women of similar age/salary/power. He’s had a Hollywood playground for almost 30 years

Going back to the original blind from 2012 - this was a B list actress then that we all knew. Now the same actress in this blind is someone we ALL (in caps from Enty) know. I love Sanaa but I wouldn't say she's someone everyone knows. Everyone knows Eva and she's only done movies. Sanaa was on Nip/Tuck and the original blind ruled out TV. Sadly, there aren't many men in Hollywood known as a "nice guy" which is written here with intent. No disrespect, but he is a man of color at the Oscars - he wins - he gets an standing ovation. Period. Couple that with the high wattage smile and it fits...Just tears me up!

  50. @My.answer.is.xyz the movie was Training Day, there wasn't really a sex scene but Mendes was playing his character's mistress and had a nude scene. So a sex scene could easily have been cut, or even written out by the time they filmed.

  52. Oldman will get the standing O. He's talented, but also a nasty piece of work.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Just to circle back around to the Oldman/Winona reference....one of my favorite Oldman movies is "Immortal Beloved," the Beethoven biography, and the climax is a huge standing ovation for Beethoven at the premiere of his work "Ode to Joy."

It's an incredible scene, cutting between silent closeups of an aged Beethoven, unable to hear the audience's massive applause; to the audience as it applauds, which we, the filmgoing audience hears; to a scene from Beethoven's youth, as he runs away from his abusive father and seeks sanctuary in a tranquil, gorgeous nearby lake.

I've seen this movie twice and that scene has brought me to tears both times. It's a classic film moment, perfectly blending, music, visuals and the actor's performance, the height of cinematic accomplishment. It's glorious.

So there's your "standing ovation," perhaps. It would be ironic if such a magnificent moment of film was being used as a clue in the revelation of such horrific behavior, and I hope it's not the case. But it also reminds me that Oldman has been giving magnificent performances for three decades now, and this is only his second Oscar nomination.

Not sure if that means he's one of the biggest assholes in a town of big assholes, or that he's been snubbed as an iconoclast who doesn't toe the line, for better and for worse. I hope it doesn't mean he raped Winona Ryder. But there is that "Standing Ovation."

    Strange town. Strange times. Strange.

He's got a shitty reputation, but I don't think this BI is about him. A lot of what he does is not really mainstream cinema Oscar-bait designed to be loved by mass audience (which is probably part of the reason why it's only his second nomination), much of it is British, and even though he's known to be a great actor, I don't think he has the kind of power to dictate what actresses work with him, and to select them on the couch (this person here is described as a "lifetime casting coucher").

    ReplyDelete
  57. Oldman is the frontrunner, and apparently the answer to previous blind http://www.crazydaysandnights.net/2018/01/blind-item-9_23.html

  62. Denzel escaping #MeToo has nothing to do with race & everything to do with consent and complacency. His story requires women to stand up and admit to being participants. Franco & Ansari’s accusers are being shamed for consenting to sexual activity. Denzel Washington, Bryan Singer, Brett Ratner, Zach Braff and others have longer lists of casting couch stories, but only the “unwanted advances” get reported. The culture only changes when ALL angles come forward

you're saying that DW casting couches were all consensual? Honest question I really don'y know...

This is a very important point though. Does MeeToo apply to people that willingly accepted roles in exchange for sexual favors?

ellen Pompeop wrote a very good pice on THR: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/features/ellen-pompeo-tvs-20-million-woman-reveals-her-behind-scenes-fight-what-i-deserve-1074978

"By the way, I saw the other path. My agent once sent me to see Harvey, too. I went right up to his room at the Peninsula, which I would never normally do, but Harvey was a New York guy, so it made sense. Plus, it was in the middle of the day, and he had an assistant there. He didn't try anything on me. Had he, I'm a little rough around the edges and I grew up around some very tough people, so I probably would have picked up a vase and cracked him over the fucking head. But I also feel completely comfortable saying that I walked into that room batting the shit out of my eyelashes. My goal in that room was to charm him, as it is in most rooms like that. You think, "Not only do I have to show that I'm a good actress, but that director also has to in some way fall in love with me and at least become enamored with me." That never felt right or good to me. And I've had conversations with my agents 17 years later. I've said, "You sent me into that room knowing …" They claim they didn't know."

I'm all for protecting kids that can't know better and are manipulated. Rape victims as well. But where one draws the line when to flirt is part of the game?

For every HW victim that came forward I bet there is at least one actress that willingly had sex with him. Enty talks about one of them very often...

  64. @femisapien you bring up a key question. I’m entirely assuming Denzel’s casting couch participants consented. That is information I don’t have.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Anonymous4:25 PM

Although DW ticks most boxes and would undoubtedly receive a standing ovation, the word 'nominee' suggests this blind refers to someone who has yet to win an Oscar. Gary Oldman has both a, shall we say, colourful past, and is beloved regardless of skeletons in his closet. All of us know Uma. BAFTA awards are rather eye-catching and he had one by then. I'm inclined to think it's him rather than the more obvious candidate.

    ReplyDelete
  66. @ToobisTheZebra - I wouldn't be so sure this has completely "nothing to do with race", though of course I may be wrong. I remember when the Cosby case was all over the news, there was an outcry among his fans, with many people claiming that this was all just a scheme to bring down an icon of the African American community.
If you look at the 2012 BI, it doesn't read like consent. But this is a blind item, so unless a victim comes forward, it's all rumour and hearsay, and people are happy toturn a blind eye. Just like they did with HW, Singer and many others for years.

  70. Oldman better win. Outstanding oerformance. Literally a career high.

I've heard what a foul egotistical pig DW is over the years. Oldman has had his personal troubles in relationships which are well-documented and anyone can look up and find, but never heard a single whiff of him being a desperate casting couch oinker.

    ReplyDelete
  71. WTF with all the Denzel hate? LOL, you lot are funny. All this, "my friend told me horror stories!" "I heard one from my cousin!" No one is spilling. It's a gossip site, FFS. Gossip or pipe down.

Based on previous BI leaning Oldman ('Hollywood loves him'), it could be Gary, but I don't see him having the kind of clout to get a part for an actress above the line even when he was in greater demand. Was likely too coked out to care about what happened to others.

If this is Eva Mendes in the BI, does she look remotely like she started drinking and doing drugs? She has two kids with an "academy award winner/nominee."

Sticking with the director category, going with beloved Del Toro who really does have the nice guy reputation. Selma Blair as the actress.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Hi, I strongly believe this is Eva and Denzel. I know two people who aren't connected who have done drugs with her, one of which was a days long coke bender in which her agent had to come track her down at a drug dungeon in the worst side of town where I live (the other was a guy I know who went to Burning Man).

Major +1 for the coke bender/losing the baby that way rumor.

  74. Denzel Washington that is immediately who I thought of. Denzel has this clean cut IMAGE but well known he is a WOMANIZER. He probably banged plenty high profile black actresses. I recall over a decade ago a HUGE RUMOUR emerged after film Out Of Time released he had an affair with Sanaa Lathan. The story is Sanaa ACTUALLY thought Denzel would leave his wife Pauletta for her. In fact, the wife filed for divorce but I guess it would be too expensive or messy for Denzel image. Denzel dumped Sanaa Lathan. Sanaa denied it but I believe he definitely banged her.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Got to be Denzel the HUGE hint in Enty blind is that WE all think he is a good guy. Nobody thinks Woody Harleson or Gary Oldman are good men. But Denzel has a clean cut squeaky clean image. He also has directed a few films. I doubt any black actresses will speak up about him because they know how powerful he is. Sadly, the black actresses know they will get blowback for daring to challenge Denzel.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Many tried the same race-based conspiracy theory about Cosby. too much tea was then spilt. Zero blowback for women like Beverly Johnson from rational people. I dunno about this "squeaky clean" image ppl think Washington has. "Nice guy" is not the phrase people associate with him. Moreover, if Black women did come forward, I don't think it would have the same kind of impact as if a well known White actress came forward.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Sorry, but Denzel is an OG blind here. Long time readers won't think of him as a nice guy, and I doubt that even this new version of Enty would think those of us reading for more than the last year would forget the old blinds.

Since most people think of WH as the nice young dumb bartender from Cheers still, or just a mellow pothead, I will go with him.

  81. @mag yeah, openly interviewed on the subject claiming she was doing research on the aforementioned role in the Cage movie. I know, all celebrities are liars, whatever. Selma Blair, however, has been open about her substance abuse and rehab center visits. Del Toro is the best fit, and the timing is right. Moreover, he is far more likely to win than Denzel. Hell, Oldman is more likely to win than Denzel.

  82. So what do casting directors ACTUALLY do, since it is the producers/directors/lead actors who decide who ends up in movies?

  83. Everything is always about race.

    It's Denzel.

Why is it Tommy Lee Jones, while clinically depressed, denies an autograph and he gets hounded all over YouTube? Thomas Gibson kicks a chair and he gets fired.

But Denzel and Gary are total ogres and no one mentions it beyond gossip sites.

Ansari’s Accuser was a Weinstein set-up to water down the real accusers. That was just a bad date.

  84. Denzel Denzel Denzel!!!! I remember that old blind time from 2012 and so thought it was him then. He is not the guy everybody thinks he is I have heard. Total evil person to work with from what I hear.

  85. This is unequivocally Denzel.

  86. I know it is tardy to the party to post here but just scampered upon these guesses and felt morally compelled to add that there is no way, zero, none that this is Paul Thomas Anderson, Chris Nolan, nor Scott Rudin.

Firstly, Rudin may not be a nice man but he would never casting couch a female. Gay. He's a rage queen, a jackass, and a douchebag quite often. Genius producer, but total prick. He'd never couch anything capable of pregnancy.

Secondly, Nolan would never casting couch any human. An anamorphic lens? Yes, perhaps he'd have sex with his lenses and cameras, but not the talent. No way. He's a true professional and a unicorn in the industry.

Thirdly, Paul Anderson is just...lol...sorry, I cant stop laughing at the image of him trying to seduce anyone. Even Maya his wife, lol. But seriously, not Paul. This is 10000% fact. Never. I know this totally for a fact. Or ask any of his actresses if you wish. Just because a man watches "vanilla" legal porn and looks at girlie mags ('ya know - for the articles) does not make him a perv or rapist. Paul is about as vanilla as you can get in that regards. (no insult intended lol). But seriously, both he and Nolan belong on a good guy list if there were one. They're not perfect nor infallible, but they're not pervy rapist abuser pedo lunatics. There's more chance of Steve Guttenberg being outed as an abuser than these two.

(Better clarify that - as far as I know Guttenberg is NOT an abuser. Unless you count Police Academy 2 and 3 Men & A Baby as abuse on your sense of good taste :-)

  87. ...and typically standing ovations have been given for something more personal in a person's life/career than just for a certain role or film. Like a struggle or sacrifice to get a movie made, or like a long-time nominee finally winning, or a person who may be dying or retiring. Just food for thought.

  88. So, taking the clues and Himmmm input, if Oldman is indeed the answer to the other blind and loses the lead, IF it's an actor it would be Day-Lewis?

Never heard anything about him...Im puzzled

  89. @Himmmm, thank you for the info on PTA and Nolan!
Two of my favorite directors, would be sad if they were rotten too.
