Blind Item #6

This company has the backing of deep pocketed Hollywood heavy hitters & a keen eye for edgy projects attached to awards contenders in multiple categories. Known for raucous Sundance after-parties. One founder worked closely with the A++ producer turned box office poison & cut ties a few years back. Another has a secret to keep from their international investors, especially the A-list action star with a carefully cultivated public image. Their acquisition strategy evolves with every new revelation. Their company had a big debut last year and everyone expects to capitalize on recent awards show buzz for acquisitions. One partner has seen Hollywood excess warts and all. He’s kept his nose clean, at least to this point. They timed their announcement to coincide with another high profile executive exit. The Producer couldn’t stop them, but power hungry exec eventually returned for a sweeter deal. Another partner has been hiding a big liability from the rest of the team. Not the brightest bulb in the box. Sparks will fly.

  1. Lions gate Films?/Renner for action star/Procucer?

  2. This sounds like it's supposed to be a newer company. Kinda hard to tell, though, it's a mess of writing.

  3. It is -I guess Weinstein’s the producer turned poison maybe ?

A24 has 3 founders, fairly new company, tons of Oscar buzz (Florida Project, Lady Bird, Disaster Artist)

  8. I still think it's GlobalGate with one of the founders, Clifford Werber, being the one who cut ties with Weinstein when he worked for Worldview for a short time?

It's Neon. New company. Co-founder Tom Quinn came from Weisntein's company Radius.

Their releases include I, Tonya (awards contender), Ingrid Goes West and Colossal ("big" year, eh, eh?)

The other founder is Tim League, owner of Alamo Drafthouse. Remember the blind I bought the receipts on? The company that secretly rehired known sex assaulter Devin Faraci? Yeah, this is his company too. He's probably the not brightest bulb mentioned.

I can't place the A action star, though.

also, League's parties are legendary. The ethos of Fantastic Fest is to party.

  11. Jackie Chan's name came up in an article about Neon, saying the company who owns his films is an investor. He could fit as the action star with the clean image from whom the others have to keep secrets.

  12. So...
    Company: Neon
    Founder A: Tom Quinn
    A++ producer turned poison: Weinstein
Founder B, with a secret to keep from investors:
A list action star who is foreign:

Then the blind kinda becomes incoherent. Are the "partners" referenced also founders, or funders? There's a least two of them. One who has been around but kept clean. Another who is dim. What revelations change their acquisition strategy? What announcement is timed to an executive exit? Did that same exec return for a better deal? What liability is the dim bulb hiding?

  13. It mentions two "founders": #1 who cut ties with an A++ producer a few years back, and #2 who has a secret to hide from international investors, especially the action star.

Then it mentions two "partners": #3 who has seen it all and kept his nose clean, and #4 who has been hiding a big liability.

I initially read that as 4 different people, but it's possible that 1=3 and 2=4.

  16. I think one of the partners mentioned is Jason Blum. Neon announced a partnership with Blumhouse around the same time as the Devin Faraci/Alamo Drafthouse thing was going on, but I'm not sure Faraci or Todd Brown make sense as the "power hungry exec".

  17. Hmm blinds about production companies are like blinds about real housewives or teen moms - UNNECESSARY

    1. No, it is VERY necessary. I feel like if you're an actress/actor in Hollywood and you don't read Enty's, you're not doing your fucking homework.

I would never "victim-blame", but if you already know Hollywood is a dangerous place and you don't try and find out who to watch out for to keep yourself safe, then you're an idiot of an actress. Sorry. Enty isn't just "spilling dirt", he's keeping people safe.

  18. Blum could be the guy who has seen it all but kept clean.

  19. This would be a lot more interesting if we knew what the secret and the big liability actually are...

@Cail, good find on the Jackie Chan info

@Sal Salington, Founder B is Tim League. I think you're right on Blum being the good one; I've heard he's a decent person.

@hh314, I disagree. I think its fascinating to hear about the behind the scenes folks becausec they are the power brokers in Hollywood after all.

I think the power hungry exec is Micah Green, formerly of CAA Finance who is,a co-founder of 30West, a film financier that has teamed with Neon, and plans to do so again.

  21. Au Contraire @HH314. Many Producers and Agents are supreme slimeballs. We want the 411.

@HH314 You know what the best thing is about stuff? You can just skip over things you don't like....TV Shows, Dessert, Sports Games, and Blog Posts. Stuff Rules!!!

  23. @Faust68 +1 It is easy to scroll past the blinds that are not interesting to me. IMHO Enty does a good job of having a little of everything for this diverse group.

  24. There was a blind a while back about Jackie Chan being involved with a drug and human trafficking cartel.

  25. I've heard that Jackie Chan is known in Chinese-speaking regions for having multiple mistresses
