Formula 1 isn't a winter sport
Also doesn't have vowels beginning his names
Alexander Ovechkin
Alexander Ovenchkin-Russian players for Washington Capitals

Olympics involved maybe?
Ice HockeyI think anyway??
Alexander Ovechkin? I know fuck all about ice hockey, but it seems the most likely ans he’s Russian, so it wouldn’t be surprising an organisation has “alternative” approaches to persuasion.
How is hockey a 'minor major sport'?
I doubt it's Ovechkin...his team hasn't lost a game at home yet this season so it doesn't sound like he's throwing games.

Outside of Canada, does anyone really care all that much about hockey? It's a major sport, but nothing remotely close to football, baseball, or basketball in the US.
Ovechkin isn't having his best type of season this year but he did get married over the summer. It's either him or Evgeny Malkin of Pittsburgh, the are both Russian and pro-Putin.
It is possible to throw a score for point spread rather than lose, it hard to do in hockey or baseball. Much easier, say in basketball or even football.
@sandybrook,Malkin no double vowel.
Oveckin fits the vowels & foreign born, but he's having one of his best seasons in the last 5 years on pace for another 50 goal season & his team is winning & leading their division. Typical Capitals season all around really. Sounds like BS to me if this blind alludes to him.
Besides, hockey at the NHL level is fix bets with just 1 player (even if its a superstar), it's not like basketball, only a goalie would be able to have that much affect, non goalies come to mind to fit the rest of the description. Not buying it. If this is putin Related Ovie has been pro putin as long as I can remember, nothing new on that front
Dear Brian,
Just because you don't know a lot about hockey or particularly enjoy it does not mean the entire country of the USA feels the same way. Hockey has a strong following in states like New York, Michigan, and Minnesota.
And Ohio
Dear CB,
I don't particularly enjoy any professional sports. That doesn't change the fact that hockey has a significantly smaller audience than football, baseball, or basketball, even if it is popular in certain regions. The Stanley Cup has nothing on the Superbowl or World Series.
Brian, that's why it's a "minor major sport."
Ovechkin has been great this year and his team is winning. I'm not sure the gamblers are being upset here.
Aaron Ekblad has two vowels, is Canadian and having a bad year. He was very famous when he was the #1 overall prospect but his career so far has taken him off the A+ list.
Possibly it's another sport? MLS?
First thought was Ovi. He's totally Putin's cheerleader. And minor sport. Pfft. *gives enty the finger* lol
Hockey may not be huge in most of the U.S., but here in DC it's very popular (especially because the Redskins are such a perennial joke). That's largely attributable to Ovetchkin.
Ovechkin has expressed support not only for Putin but for Russian hockey players participating in the Olympic Games, which they will need to do under a "neutral flag" due to the doping scandal. They'd have an excellent chance at winning gold since the NHL isn't allowing its players to go to the Olympics. Maybe the blind refers to Olympic sports gambling and the uncertainties regarding the Russian participants.
Another “look how russians are bad" story? Pathetic americans.
Tricia got it. It is Ovechkin. Russian mob hooks playes up with young hotties. Remember Federov and Kournakova? She had barely bled.
LMAO You can always tell an American. They think that hockey is "minor", football is soccer and that what they call football is everything.
The doping scandal was real. Ovie's support of Putin and of Russian hockey players participating in the Olympics is well-documented. It stands to reason that oddsmakers would have difficulties due to the uncertainties. I don't think this blind is much of a stretch given the facts.
Stupid Ovey.
Alexei Emelin. Just asked my husband. He gave that name.
And even Florida, believe it or not!
Lol I hate to say this but the Caps are not leading in their division. The Lightning have been killing everyone this season! Just wanted to clear that up
Hockey is not a minor-major sport for Western Europe or Canada! Anyway, just came here to say that and I heard a few of you were asking about me a week or so ago and I'm flattered - I'm still hanging around, hope all the other old timers are well xx
I don't know if anyone else remembers this blind, but I thought I'd come back now five months later to point out that Alex Ovechkin just led the Capitals to the Stanley Cup after arguably his best season, and was the obvious choice for the Conn Smythe (playoff MVP) trophy. Wasn't him, if it was anyone. Have to look somewhere else for a Rooskie bogeyman.
