The management team and her agency are scrambling. It seems this young, former Disney actress turned A-/B+ list mostly movie actress wants to come out. She is tired of pretending otherwise but her team is scared she won't ever get to that A list level which is so close. They want to find a boyfriend for her who will stick this time.

ReplyDeleteI am thinking Zendaya also but here is the thing, her team is right there is no openly gay man or woman that is popular as a love interest and leading person since Rupert Everett came out and his career went south. Ellen Page has come out - she is on an indie track now but no more big Hollywood movies. Luke Evan is ambiguous and I think most people don't know he is gay (or bi or whatever)

ReplyDeleteYou can only come out if you are in television or domestic box office. If you were openly gay? You lose China, Philippines and most of the middle eastern countries. That’s why NPH is working but if Travolta/Cruise etc came out~box office poison.

ReplyDeleteI don't think it's just foreign audiences that have trouble accepting gay and lesbian actors and actresses. Homophobia is strong in many parts of the Black community in the US, which is why there are so many rappers on the down low. Zendaya has a very solid following of young black women who appreciate her strength and glamour. Will they continue to support her if she comes out?

DeleteThis is Zendaya. From someone who knows someone in her camp, I've heard that she is sweet but a self-righteous PIA who's exhausting to work with as she's determined to make a statement. All the time. She apparently claimed a store manager or restaurant employee (I forget the details) questioned her as to whether she would be able to pay the bill. What actually happened was that she and her friends were a little rambunctious and were asked to lower their voices and Zendaya turned it into a race/age issue that she posted or tweeted about, with her yet again triumphing.
