WOW loved ninotchka....did garbo know???
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't John Wayne...hahaha
ReplyDeleteIn 1919 the KKK was less a shadowy group than it is today. No surprise it being inmiky white somewhat German Wisconsin.
ReplyDeleteAh, the good old days of Hollywood when social and business connections were made at KKK meeting, Communist recruiting dances or simply sleeping with each other's wives. Simpler times.
ReplyDeleteNot like today when it's done while split-roasting a 14 year old.
@Sandy it was everywhere back then. And don’t paint all German and Scandinavian immigrants with the same brush. A lot of them were suspicious of “anti-other” rhetoric, being immigrants themselves.
ReplyDeleteInterestingly, while looking through an American history photo exhibit, I saw a 1919 picture from a KKK rally, and it was notable for one of the unmasked men glaring at the photographer (the other unmasked men had their backs turned to hide their faces) but even the man who was glaring hid his lower face.
Greater acceptance in the past doesn’t seem to equate to quite the kind of national open acceptance many of us envisioned.
Boy was I wrong.
ReplyDelete(I had learned years ago that John Wayne might have been a member and benefactor.)
Oh, well...
But, people now a days don't realize that the KKK was a very powerful political force back in the early 1900's.
Most Confederate Statues were erected during this time.
The first immigration law ever passed in 1924 was written by the Grand Master of the KKK.
ReplyDeleteNo Chinese or Italians were allowed.
And, the US Census of 1890 was used as the basis of the bill because it had the most Caucasian people listed that year.
Our immigration history is a sad one indeed.
@David Howes
DeleteWas the Grand Master's name Donald Drumpf?
Real Jekyll and Hyde sort.
ReplyDeleteDemocrats gonna democrat.
ReplyDelete☝️🙄🤨🤦♀️
DeleteI don't recall anyone correctly guessing this one.
ReplyDeleteYeah I know Han, when I first got down here to Florida 12 years ago, I knew nobody would ever hear my last name or what religion I was, and now thanx to a certain person who emboldered them to come out of hiding, it's back to being worse again.
ReplyDelete@sandybrook
DeleteIt stuns me how quickly it became “okay” to start publicly acting like that again. It’s going to be a long couple of years.
mhb guessed Fredric March a few comments in.
ReplyDeleteNo Tw allot of people guessed fred
ReplyDeleteYep but it won't go away in a couple of years, it's here for awhile no matter what happens Han. It might take a decade or more to fix this.
ReplyDeleteI’m sure the John Wayne answer is also correct.
ReplyDeleteAs stated in the JFK assassination papers just released the other day it was revealed that Lyndon Bain Johnson was a member of the KKK and bragged a out keeping them n#grs voting Democrat for hundreds of years.
ReplyDeleteBut guess who here wants to keep them on the plantation?
I'll give you a hint, he hates Trump.
Fuck off Mike M/geejire. Small penis dudes use the n word. I dont think the Kkk would allow Mr Wayne to marry Hispanic women. Godd old Marion wayne.
DeleteWallahi I am not Mike M but now I wonder on whose behalf you are smearing.
DeleteI will also never use that word.
Damn...i like him very much as actor
ReplyDeleteIts true that the democratic party has never been for the people its been for themselves. Only now are people realizing this fact. Donald Trump is probably one of the least likely KKK members ever. He is born in Queens NY and grew up there. As someone from the tri-state area I will tell you overall we here in the North East are far from white supremacists. Who fought the South over slavery? The Northern Republicans... who voted for the Civil Rights Laws in the 60's? The Northern Republicans.. That just goes to show you how the dems line is just that a line of crap.
ReplyDeleteMy apologies Geejire
ReplyDeleteSD you are an idiot. I was quoting LBJ and you, in your dementia, attributed it to me.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you assholes have to take everything out of context?
And why aren't you joining sandybrook on his wild goose chase?
Buzz off troll. Been here longer than you. I know all about LBJ and his views. However he did the most for civil rights. He was an abusive SOB but I appreciate what he did. Oh and my mind is fine but my eyesight is so so. Have a nice day troll
ReplyDeleteYeah, Generational Welfare has been a good send.
ReplyDeleteI own my own home and never been on welfare.I'm retiring in 3 years. Nice try whitey. Have a nice life loser
ReplyDeleteLike I said, you are an idiot. I was talking about LBJ and his Great Society and you , in your dementia , assumed I was talking about you.
ReplyDeleteAnd generalizing a whole race of people. Statistics show most welfare folks are white. Lol
ReplyDeletePeople experiment in college.
