ReplyDeleteIt's not just "today's" hip hop. It's cumulative. It's more popular and influential than any other form of music including pop. All the pop stars are trying to get reality show gigs. Why? Their music isn't selling the way it did in the past. Hip hop is built for the current model, which is streaming. For decades now rap fans have been enduring the childish taunts of those who don't like it, claiming it's not music or a fad or whatever. No one cares about the music those who attacked rap claimed to prefer, rock, metal and now studio-crafted pop.

At least that's a fact. I'm old enough to recall when there was no such thing as hip hop. I've listened to all kinds of music (part of my job at one time), some of which I don't like, but I wouldn't use my distaste for a certain kind of music to make up some nonsense about it.
