Want to watch a solid acting career go down in flamed? Look no further than this former A/A- list mostly television actor who was only that high in his corner of the television world. Sadly, there is not much left of that corner any longer. Anyway, this actor had a good run going and then walked away when he thought he could make it bigger in movies. As I have said many times, never leave a hit. He did, and when his movie career crashed before it even started, he limped back to television. For about a month. Our actor is married, but kept trying to have sex with extras and walk ons. Apparently the complaints were numerous and he was fired.
Word got around and he had some trouble finding work for a few years. Finally someone gave him another chance and the same behavior repeated itself. He was fired even more quickly than the last time. Unbelievably, someone gave him yet a final chance and he blew that by doing the same thing. He hasn't worked since. He took a career and threw it away because he was used to being able to get away with what he did at the show he left, but at the other shows, people actually cared about what happened on set and put their foot down.

Don't try to dip your pen in the company ink, it's not rocket science.
ReplyDelete*trying to figure out the niche*
ReplyDeleteThinking it's got to be a soap actor. Those have all but disappeared.
ReplyDeleteTopher Grace.
ReplyDeleteMy exact guess
Delete1000% He just did an interview yesterday on how he made enough money from That 70's show not to act as much, and to work with "auteurs" like Spike Lee
DeleteRob Morrow? Probably not David Caruso.
ReplyDeleteI thought of matt leblanc instantly for some reason
ReplyDeleteI totally did the same!
Delete@Sara, yes soaps were my first thought too, but so many bouncing back and forth there, wouldn't know where to start.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that's why I'm not really trying. I don't think I could figure it out. I haven't kept up with any soaps in a while.
DeleteI thought about Caruso
ReplyDelete1 to Sara. Yes, this sounds like a soaper for sure.
ReplyDeleteTambor
ReplyDeleteJack Wagner. Soaps being the niche.
ReplyDeleteHe works a lot on Hallmark Channel movies. They play in my doctor’s office waiting room.
DeleteSoaps.
ReplyDeleteWait, so either Hollyweird is full of entitled pervs molesting and trying to stick their hamptons into any living thing that moves and having their backs covered by the industry.
ReplyDeleteOr it's full of entitled pervs molesting and trying to stick their hamptons into any living thing that moves and having their career go down the shitter because the industry will not tolerate such despicable behaviour.
Which is it?
It's both, and which classification you fall under depends on how much $(or possible negative, malignant attention) you're earning for your bosses. Like the mafia with makeup, cameras and a whole team of alibi writers at your disposal at any given moment
DeleteEric Dane?
ReplyDeleteOooh—good guess!
DeleteMatt LeBlanc didn't leave a hit, though--Friends ended.
ReplyDeleteIn "his corner" of the TV world probably means soaps...
Not Matt LeBlanc. He has had two successful series after Friends. Episodes ran for 5 seasons and his current Man with a Plan was just renewed for a third season.
ReplyDeleteHe was pretty funny playing a super sleazed up version of himself on Episodes
DeleteI thought Rob Morrow was a great guess, but he's been working steadily in television the last decade.
ReplyDeleteI take that back. Caruso has not had work since 2005. Niche being cop shows.
ReplyDeletePeter Reckell - Bo Brady on Days of Our Lives
ReplyDeleteI was thinking of the second Bo, Robert Kelker-Kelly. He was on Another World twice, as different characters. Supposedly was hated on Days for hitting on women.
Delete@Bennett
DeletePeter Reckell retired from acting a while back.
Robert Kelker-Kelley claims he left show business because it contributed to his drug addiction.
Try #2
ReplyDeleteCameron Mathison from All My Children fits but not sure if he was A-ish when he was on the show.
Hi all --- old-time commenter here~!!
If he was nominated for a Daytime Emmy or other award, then probably. The fact that I recognize his name (even though I've never watched AMC) sta he probably was.
Delete@GG Meyer
DeleteI think Cameron secured a gig on Good Morning America after he was in DWTS.
I think it’s Micheal E Knight of Tad Martin fame.
DeleteI think Kno got it with Michael E Knight
DeleteOh yeah, could be.
DeleteI'm an on/off watcher of Y&R, and last time I watched, he had just joined the show. This was a year or two ago, I think Justin Hartley was still on.
Then his character was gone pretty much as soon as it appeared.
The Young & The Restless is like the one soap that fires harassers. And Bold & The Beautiful I assume, same production team.
DeleteSome of the other shows, it's rampant Allegedly.
Michael Knight? No fuckin way man, KITT had the best cartang out there! Noone would ever cheat on KITT, unless it was like a talking, sentient helicopter maybe. And even then you'd have to ask yourself "Can I really bring a helicopter home to my parents, I ain't risking what I already got at home in my garage?"
DeleteCaruso is who I immediately thought of too.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing is his cop show was primetime tv. That’s not really a niche. The dude probably made his money and is chilling now.
ReplyDeleteDavid Caruso?
ReplyDeleteFirst one to come to mind was David Caruso. I remember when he left NYPD Blue for a movie career and it tanked. He was on a couple different CSI shows (are they still primetime? or is it just reruns being played now)?
ReplyDeleteSomeone above also mentioned Topher Grace. Also a good first guess, but I can't think of any other television shows besides the 70's Show. The only thing I heard about Topher is that he thinks he's a better actor than everyone else and refuses to "mingle" with other actors.
I always had a bad feeling about TG. His “acting” had a foundation of smugness, making everything he did insincere and unbearable to watch.
DeleteTopher’s playing David Duke in the upcoming film BlacKkKlansman
DeleteCaruso's dead movie career was unfair. One of the first movies he made was actually pretty good back when I saw it. It even had the most roided out possible version of Nic Cage as the psycho villain, and he had the best violent, angry HULKOUT scenes. It totally didn't deserve the terribad critical reviews it got at the time, especially considering the state of most of the other garbage that was released then(and now maybe more than ever)
DeleteSomewhere i have a Vote Duke yard sign i found in a house clean out years ago. Figure whenever he dies it will become a collectible and i'll separate a rube from some cash.
DeleteDavid Fumero\Christian Vega from One Life to Life? Married to Vanessa Fumero of Brooklyn nine ninety nine. She works, he doesn't really.
ReplyDeleteThat's funny, Topher came to my mind too, but I didn't expect anyone else to guess him.
ReplyDelete@Lonely Bastard, good question. Reading between the lines: the difference is that he was a big star on that first show, so everyone put up with it and/or covered for him. Other productions probably would have done the same at that time. But after he failed in movies and got knocked down a peg, he couldn't do things for/to people anymore, so everyone found their limits.
ReplyDeleteI thought of Danny Masterson
ReplyDeleteLots of choices here.
ReplyDeletePatrick Dempsey
ReplyDeleteI thought maybe Taran Killam because SNL is kind of its own corner, and he is surprisingly unsuccessful in making it big in films. I'm sure he thought he was the next Will Ferrel.
ReplyDeleteI thought about that, but sketch comedy is doing well on cable. Right?
DeleteIf not, then a sketch guy could be a possibility.
It is definitely a soap star, but again, only a few have their personal lives public,so it is hard to keep up. Does anyone know of someone who only lasted a month on a Soap?
ReplyDeleteOh there's always an excuse with soaps, the fans didn't like them, it was only supposed to be temporary etc.
ReplyDeleteNot David Caruso. Very successful long run on CSI Miami
ReplyDeleteThere was a soap actor on Young & Restless that was fired for sexually harassing a young actress. I think it was the second or third show he starred in.
ReplyDeleteYou might be thinking of Michael Muhney, but he was on a long time.
DeleteThis made me think of Martin Lawrence.
ReplyDeleteDan Stephens from DOWTON ABBEY?
ReplyDeleteHe's still on Legion
DeleteTotally leaning toward Mark-Paul Gosselaar (sp?)
ReplyDeleteMPG has been pretty consisently cast on TV shows, they just keep flopping. He has a new series this Fall, in fact.
DeleteWhat a dumbass! (whoever it is)
ReplyDeleteWait - David Caruso makes a lot more sense. Sorry, MPG! (Maybe.)
ReplyDeletewhat's caruso's 'corner of the television world?' besides, that's all old news.
ReplyDeleteno. this is a SOAP ACTOR.
David Caruso. There are no more hit CSI shows out there. For a while all three CSIs were the HIT!
ReplyDeleteNot David Caruso.
ReplyDeleteThe next tv show he had after NYPD Blue got cancelled.
After that he was on CSI Miami for its entire run.
Plus, I think his issue was alcohol, not abusing women.
Lt. Col. Henry Blake
ReplyDeleteIt’s too early to tell if it’s Tambor. He just got fired. This blind appears to be about a career that is totally over, no question.
ReplyDeleteDan Stevens has stuff in the works according to IMDb.
ReplyDeleteI dont think its caruso, it says on IMDB that he was in 232 episodes of CSI Miami from 2002-2012
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteChad Michael Murray after walking out on One Tree Hill for a failed movie career?
ReplyDeleteHe has only had short stints on TV since, could be firings.
Caruso my first thought, too.
ReplyDeleteDavid Caruso left NYPD Blue back in the 1990s he fell of the radar in Hollywood. But then he came back with CSI Miami which was a hit show. So I don't think this is him. My guess is Clayne Crawford who has a bad reputation and just got fired from Lethal Weapon by FOX.
ReplyDelete@Shawn
ReplyDeleteWasn't Tambor rehired by Transparent? He might have threatened to sue for wrongful termination.
If it's a soap, keep in mind that they shoot multiple episodes per day (or one storyline arc that goes for several episodes/ weeks), so "a month" of work could mean dozens of episodes, maybe spanning several months of airtime. (In case you're looking at #'s of episodes on imdb.)
ReplyDeleteNot Matt LeBlanc because he's currently on CBS's "Man with A Plan" he also did that British car show and "Episodes". He has worked steadily. Also not Rob Morrow because he's been on "Billions" with Damien Lewis and Malin Ackerman which I think is on Showtime or HBO for the last 2 years.
ReplyDeleteAnd the jobs he was fired from might be a different genre, or even a hosting type gig.
ReplyDeleteI have an interesting tidbit about David Caruso. While on CSI Miami my BF at the time worked on the show. The prop master/set decorator came to set after a scene to clean up. She picked up a silver tray/platter to pick up all these little items. DC said "Wait I need those for the next scene". From then on, at the beginning of a scene DC is brought a silver platter with his personal props on it. He didn't like to be handed things directly. To be fair he took them kindly and said thank you.
ReplyDeleteThis is someone with at least four TV shows, three of which were flops and there were significant gaps between at least two. The firdt was a hit, and he made movies after it, but not enough were hits (though maybe a couple were, just not enough to make him a movie star?) His first show was a hit, but only THAT show. Eliminates Caruso and LeBlanc, who had two hit shows apiece...at least.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDelete~ Dana Carvey ~
I'm gonna guess Ricky Paull Goldin
ReplyDeleteBy the way, this could be a soap actor, but not totally. This also could be a SyFy type star-- a Ben Browder or Michael Shanks type (though not them; they don't fit.) Scifi could his "corner".
ReplyDeleteJust a thought.
Agreeing on not Matt LeBlanc. He's going on his 4th season of Top Gear
ReplyDeleteWhat about Matthew Perry? Friends was huge but his film career stalled and the shows he's led aftewards -- Studio 60, Go On, Thr Odd Couple-- have all stiffed. His last listed credit was a small part in a Kennedy miniseries in 2017.
ReplyDeleteAndy Dick
ReplyDeleteCraig Kilborn
ReplyDeleteAs Melvin said, this could also be science fiction. That's a shrinking "niche" with it's very own A-Z ecosystem.
ReplyDeleteI immediately thought of Michael Shanks as well, but it doesn't fit: after his movie career failed to launch, he returned to SG1 for the rest of the run not "a month". I've heard he was an asshole hated by many he worked with.
Caruso was on CSI Miami for a long time.
ReplyDeleteMatthew Perry has struggled with a pill problem but I've never ever read complaints about him hopping on the ladies to any degree this blind item suggests. Not him.
ReplyDeleteAntonio Sabàto Jr from GH
ReplyDeleteI don't buy Caruso. Once he left NYPD Blue and realized no one cared about seeing his ass on the big screen, he seemed to embrace his TV acting and was in CSI for the whole run if I'm not mistaken.
ReplyDeleteI think Jack Wagner is the correct guess.
ReplyDeleteHe was on GH for a long time. Left there for greener pastures and returned to soaps in B&B which someone has already said has zero tolerance for serial misbehavior.
Yanny.
ReplyDeleteKidding.
I like the Topher Grace guess. He's an arrogant prick.
Yeah
ReplyDeleteIf not Caruso it's an identical scenario.
ReplyDeleteGossellar
ReplyDeleteSigh! I miss “All My Children” & even “One Life to Live”.
ReplyDeleteThe background sound for my childhood through adult life
Christopher Meloni.
ReplyDeleteNot David Caruso. He was on CSI Miami from 2002 to 2012. Loved that show.
