This A+ list singer keeps fiddling with the numbers to make her tour look way better than it is actually doing. Hundreds, if not thousands of free tickets are being given away for each show to keep those reporting numbers to Pollstar close to 100%.

ReplyDeleteThey all do it. People are sick of paying premium prices for stadium shows. All of these acts have sellouts if they play appropriate size venues.

hundreds of tickets in a 50,000 seat stadium is not that substantial, thousands could be different. Who cares, though? She's having a blast and making tons of money. Her fans love her and they love her show. If they get in free, more power to them.
ReplyDeleteWent to one of the London shows and it looked packed to me, asked around at the bar (i always get drunk at live shows)out of curiosity and everyone i met paid fill whack including multiple family outings. Could be referring to other shows or more likely beyonce/jay z. Ddin't he have problems with his live shows last year?

ReplyDeleteIve talked to some friends still in the music business about this, not today but in recent weeks, and for sure the BayZ tour is flopping and tix are being sold cheap while others are bought up by shell companies tied to their partnership, Tidal, record co., etc. It's an all but open secret, so to speak.
ReplyDeleteI can't get a straight answer on Taylor Swift, though (no pun intended). It's weird, for sure. People seem spooked by her. Some say the numbers are goosed, but I've got a couple others who swear the sales are legit. I don't believe them, but these are not the usual hacks selling me a line, so I can't be sure. Very strange.
I don't think Beyoncé's advocacy for left-wing causes has been good for ticket sales.
ReplyDeleteWhile there are a lot of people who agree with her, there are probably more that don't, and they may not feel particularly welcome at her shows.
Well her love of liberal issues also seemed to me to be opportunistic. In the last couple of years all of her actions seem like a publicity stunt.

Taylor’s tour has an average gross of 7.5 million dollars per show so far. You can fake attendances, but you can’t fake gross numbers, and according to those numbers her tour is doing splendid.

The OTR II tour is flopping because she's performing the same damn songs she did on the last tour. Plus, no one wants to see Jay Z on stage with her, especially after that whole so called cheating scandal. That's another point so many people made when discussing saying why they weren't going to support them on this recent tour of theirs.

ReplyDeleteI don't think Beyonce's problem is her left wing agenda, her problem is Jay Z. Her solo tour would have sold better I know lot's of people who don't want to sit through his solo part of the show, also the constant bringing up of his cheating by her and wanting to blame the other women is boring she keeps changing the lyrics to resentment, a song she didn't even write (Victoria Beckham originally recorded it) to try to bring it up again. BG has a post about it. To capitalise on it for media attention whilst simultaneously selling the power couple bs is annoying. I have no doubt he's already broken his second set of vows so at least she'll have new womento blame.

ReplyDeleteMy friend has been to both the Beyonce show and Taylor Swift's show and she said that Beyonce and Jay-Z's show was boring and there were many empty seats and she had gone to Taylor's show with her younger sister and said it was crazy. And fun. And neither of us are Taylor's fan so we both were surprised that she liked it.

Taylor definitely isn't selling full arenas. For her Dublin show, the majority of people got free tickets. I tried to give some away and couldn't. Went in with extra tickets in my pocket.

Bey and jay are getting old. It's like going to see your auntie and uncle perform ( for teens, maddona got older and fell off too meh it happens) and half her fans loath jay because they have all heard the cheating rumors. This tour is all about them, their relationship and they are selling it too hard. People love Beyoncé, herself. She's a phenomenal performer ( see coachella this year) what's dragging her down is the inclusion of jay in everything. Ppl are waiting for her to leave him half the time lol. Btw don't think that's going to happen anytime soon.

ReplyDeleteI have a hard time believing it's Taylor Swift. I saw one of her Rose Bowl shows in May and that venue was PACKED to the gills. It was crazy. And the show itself was spectacular.

ReplyDeleteOh, I just LOVE when someone not in the music industry, especially in the touring sector, makes definitive statements when they have NO IDEA of the deals, structured contracts and shenanigans that go on, on all levels of the playing field.
Reported gross? Somewhat fact. Some fiction. In that industry, any number can be tweaked.
What the public is told, along with the reporting organizations, isn't always the whole, or truthful story.
Sometimes ignorance is bliss. You might not want to dig into the mud of the touring industry.
Taylor Swift. Can't wait for her 15 minutes to be up.
