Blind Item #10 - Reader Blind
In the years after this classic sitcom with a supernatural theme went off the air, the female main character, the actress who played her mother, and the actor who played the main character's husband for the second half of the series run all died of cancer. The actor who played the female main character's husband during the first half of the series was sick already with different ailments but got worse once he joined the show and eventually had to quit. Then there's the crew - many of them developed cancer and other serious illnesses. Too many to be a coincidence. The answer is a very obvious one - the quickly built house on a back lot that served as the main set for the series was filled with asbestos. Relatives of the crew members have over the years received some hush money payments in return for keeping quiet. Some might ask why didn't the very out there camp comedic actor and/or the authoritative British character actor get sick? Go back and watch the show. Their characters were reoccuring and they were not in every episode and therefore not required to be on set as much.

ReplyDeleteBewitched.
ReplyDeleteBewitched Elizabeth Montgomery. Robert Reed Agnes Moorehead Dick Sargent
ReplyDeleteBewitched
ReplyDeletePaul Lynde and Dr. Bombay for the 2 who didn't die
ReplyDeleteWhile it is tragic that everyone on the show is dead they were all older when they died. Nobody died young and most died decades later. This myth has been debunked years ago.
ReplyDeleteMy dad has mesothelioma. The doctor said it takes 40-50 years to show up
DeleteDid they ALL die of mesothelioma? Because as far a I know, that’s the only kind of cancer you get from asbestos.
DeleteOr Maurice Evans who played Samantha's father (for the authoritative British character actor).
ReplyDeleteReminds of that John Wayne movie cancer story
ReplyDeleteBewitched
ReplyDeleteTabatha is doing fine and is really stunning. OG Gladys Kravitz died of ovarian cancer and Aunt what's her name died of a stroke. OG Darren was chain smoker and on oxygen.
ReplyDeleteThat was the 1st Darren. The 2nd Darren went on to act for years. Including the Beverly Hills Cop films. Not sure if he's dead now.
DeleteHe died of Aids. Read it in knee pads. Agnes Moorehead was in that JW movie where everyone died from cancer I think.
DeleteEndorra was in that John Wayne movie made on the nuke test, wasn’t the house for her.
ReplyDeleteNot to mention that by far the majority of their filming time would have been on a soundstage, not the backlot. Morehead's cancer most likely did come from the John Wayne film, that was provably filmed within range of nuclear testing grounds. The Bewitched soundstage was used lots of time before then and since then too. Get real.
ReplyDeleteThat's not really how asbestos works. It's not like it gives off a cancer-causing gas. It's harmful to breathe in the dust, which only happens if you dig around in it. It's a real danger for construction workers who have to remove it. But as long as it's lying still behind some hard surface, it's not a big deal.
ReplyDeleteNot Robert Reed; rather Dick York for the first husband.
ReplyDeleteYeah I dont know. Asbestos was known to be a carcinogen well before bewitched. And that is not as someone pointed out earlier how asbestos kills. More like what happened to Steve McQueen. Messed with it in the navy, died of a big cancer years later. I miss him .
ReplyDeleteShip builders & construction workers had the highest exposure.
DeleteThe older version of sick building syndrome.
ReplyDeleteCould the dust have been flying around do to set maintenance? Maybe some parts of the set were cheap? Although it looked pretty solid to me. Samantha and Darren had a really nice house.
Zombie Boy is dead 😢 :(
ReplyDeleteWhat?!?
DeleteRick Genest aka Zombie Boy. suicide. I loved him. I'm heartbroken
DeleteThe Bewitched house was only used for exterior shots.
ReplyDeleteYes Dick York my bad. Reed was Brady Bunch.
ReplyDeleteSuper weird...I was speaking on the Steven's kitchen just today! My Mum was Agnes Moorhead's wardrobe mistress on Broadway & told stories of her being a lovely lady.
ReplyDeleteAsbestos. I lost the best person in my life from that crap. He was just trying to make a living.
rest well see you in a better Dimension
