Blind Item #14 - Reddit Blind Item

People are guessing it is Millie Bobby Brown. Although, her parents are complete jerks, I am doubtful this is her.

I am a minor in the entertainment industry. While certainly not a J Law or Swift, I am in the public eye. I still live with my family. Recently (I don't want to say how recent), I've found success, and am now making more money than my parents combined. This doesn't sit well with them. They aren't poor but also aren't rich, I would consider us an "Upper Middle Class" family not counting my income. As time has gone on and I've found more success and as such made more money, they have become increasingly bitter about it. Last week my father stopped just being bitter.

My father created my bank accounts when I was young. He's my parent so I never saw any reason to not trust him, until now. Five days ago my father closed my accounts and transferred all of my money to himself. I told him that was illegal but he said he's my legal guardian and has the right to decide if I'm mature enough to handle my own money or not. He told me my recent purchase of a new three thousand dollar TV (which was for the family living room) was proof I wasn't capable of being responsible with that amount of money, and so he was going to watch over it for me until I was of age. My mother is, if not complicit, in denial. She refuses to talk with me about it and tells me I don't know what I'm talking about.

Since my father took the money, he's been getting a lot of nice things, including a very expensive new watch, a new couch set for his space, and as of this morning a new, fairly expensive car, and I know he didn't have enough on his own for any of those. I don't know about the watch or car but I found a copy of the delivery slip that said "No returns or refunds" which he had signed. It was $15,000 alone.

I know the best course of action is to get the police involved but there are two problems with that. For one, while not critical, having this known to the public would do a lot more harm. I know that may seem ridiculous but if at all possible I want to keep this from getting out there, which is why I'm on Reddit anonymously. Grasping at straws, I know.

The problem that's a lot more pressing, is that anyone who could side with me won't. We have a family lawyer who I've been acquainted with and have the contact information for, but they're a family friend with my parents and I've never personally needed their services so I can't see them helping me against my parents. Especially considering I now have nothing to pay them with. I do have a manager, and they were the first person I called. We met at their office four days ago and without actually saying it, they told me in painfully clear terms that if I wanted any more of a career I would accept that my father has only my best interests at heart, and would drop it. I am NOT accusing my manager of anything to be clear here, but there's no denying they have no interest in helping me, whatever their reasons may be.

The only person helping me is my close friend who's my age, but all they can do is help me think up a solution. It was their suggestion to come here though, because we have no idea what the best course of action is.

There's another major hitch, that being while i shouldhave more money coming in next week, it would have been transferred straight to my bank account. Seeing as that doesn't exist anymore I have no idea if I'll even be able to get any of that money. I tried asking my manager about this but was given a "don't you worry about that dear," type of response and nothing more.

Am I screwed?

  1. How about Sadie Sink then?

  2. Well this is depressing, though sadly nothing new. Gary Coleman also had evil parents who stole his money.

Children as young as 14 in California can seek emancipation in court from their parents. I'd suggest this girl fire her manager, get a new one and a lawyer and commence emancipation proceedings and also sue her father for the money he's stolen.

  3. How about the fact that this blind was copied directly from yesterday’s Blind Gossip?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Not really copied from blind gossip they both copied it from Reddit like the gay former child actor a few years ago.

well its titled reddit blind item sooo, obviously.
    this is sad.

  6. this can’t be Sadie, OP said her dad is in the industry- Sadie’s dad is a teacher at *our* school lol

Possibly Mackenzie Foy (Nutcracker)? The upcoming payday being the first check from that movie. Also, she's going to be 18 in a couple days, so perhaps her folks are fucking her over just before she's legal and would've had access to her finances?

  8. Its directly from Reddit.
..which is why Enty wrote "Reddit blind item"

We're hung up on female actors. Perhaps this could be a male? There's nothing in this blind that specifies OP's gender.

  10. @MKL was just about to post the same thing!

  11. I just finished haunting on hill house so I'll go with McKenna Grace.

  12. sounds like someone younger

  13. I hope you can help this kid, Ent. This is so unfair.

definitely not Sadie Sink, I am close family friends with the family and this does not fit at all.

IMPORTANT CLUE: I went to the Reddit thread, and the OP specifies that they are currently 16. So that rules out Mackenzie and Millie for sure.

Possible other candidates: Gaten Matarazzo and Skai Jackson. MAYBE Maddie Ziegler but her parents are in the real estate world.

  16. The wording sounds like someone older to me, closer to 18.

  17. It doesn’t sound like a kid wrote it.

  18. Its on Reddit so there is a 50-50 chance that someone is trolling!

  19. This child's problem is she is legally under her parents control until she turns 18.

There is nothing she can do unless she gets an emancipation order from a judge.

Sad. Like other commentators on this, her parents control her finances whether they are good or bad.

Too bad the dad is so ignorant when it comes to managing money.

I don't think any lawyer can help her until she has legal capacity.

It's sad her parents have to use her money to validate themselves.

  20. I thought of Gaten & Ziegler also but Ziegler has been in the public eye for awhile now so I'm leaning Gaten

    ReplyDelete
  21. although I feel bad guessing this since the kid doesn't want to air the family dirty laundry publicly

  22. If you think this place is not exactly honest then I wouldnt be rushing pell mell into making anything posted on Reddit an example of reliability.

Sounds like McKenna Grace. Her dad is an Orthopaedic Surgeon and her mom sells Medical Equipment. That would definitely put them at Upper Middle Class. Upcoming paycheck could be for Captain Marvel.

Would the Coogan Act help her?

  25. who was that girl with the amazing voice that won AGT few years back?
Grace Vanderwhal??? seems about right age... i hope this is a horrible guess.

    1. This is who I was thinking.

    2. Going off of your guess, maybe it's a more recent AGT winner, Darci Lynne Farmer? The ventriloquist kid. The J Law & Swift line implies a blonde, & she is. She's also 14. She mentioned wanting to buy her mom a dishwasher if she won, so the TV purchase would make sense. Could be Grace too though...

For those curious, this was posted in /legaladvice. Note: they rarely give actual legal advice there, the few lawyers who post there can't, and the rest are armchair lawyers who love to make judgemental comments, or nitpick endlessly over interpretations of the law. The only real advice they can give there is "talk to a lawyer".

And yeah - Reddit, most likely a troll.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Reddit trolls are usually way more creative (and crazy) than "my parents are stealing my money.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Anonymous1:32 PM

Reddit trolls are numerous and on every step of the creative spectrum. Believe what you want, but if it's on Reddit, I assume it's fake first.

  29. Hhmm Sophia Lillis? I hope it is bait tho, nobody deserves this.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Wait, we're going to Reddit now? Does this mean I have to stop making fun of my friend for reading that all the time?

    ReplyDelete
  31. I hope all this kid needed was the term "legal emancipation" in order to Google a real agency to help. Also, there has to be a child actor advocacy group.

    ReplyDelete
  32. i totally read this in a british accent. there's a few parts that don't sound very American i mean .. her fathers "space" ?

  34. There's quite a bit that can be done to fix this. Hopefully she finds the right people to talk to, which isn't reddit.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Wouldn't that family friend lawyer be obligated to help her without telling her parents? And what about that law that Jackie Coogan passed back in the day? Doesn't that shield her from her parents?

    ReplyDelete
  36. @iamcamiam -- Her father's space could be his "man cave" which is popular in this country, so not necessarily Brit.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Yup she's SOL until she gets emancipated.

Also we know it's not MBB b/c there would have been something about her parents selling her at events.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Unknown, that was my thought too, but that only requires that 15% be put aside in a special account. That still leaves a large percentage of the money for the parent to 'handle'.

    ReplyDelete
  39. For what it's worth....The actor/actress is 16 (according to a comment they left in response to someone asking in the original reddit post that is now "closed" to commenting, https://www.reddit.com/r/legaladvice/comments/9u1i15/my_father_took_all_of_my_money_and_claims_he/)

  40. Sucks, but this doea not read in any way as though it was written by a teen talent. Maybe an adult trying to help him/her.

  41. Amybeth McNulty? She's the lead in the series Anne with an E, which airs on netflix. -

  42. Stealing from your child is horrible, but knowing your Dad would steal from you and is resentful of your sucess is so much worse. We have plenty of cautionary tales ro learn from.

    ReplyDelete
  43. As for gender of the writer. Gender Analyzer has the writer 81% classified as female.

    ReplyDelete
  44. How do we know she is not a lying liar already mixed in with the drugs and her parents rightfully took her access to money away until she gets help. Don't help her Enty.

    ReplyDelete
  45. If she was turning 18 in a couple weeks she wouldn't have been so concerned as to post it on reddit.

I read reddit and it is a good place Brayson! Fascinating stories that also can teach me things about other people or places in the world. I like the "Ask Reddit" threads. People are funny and nice and insightful and it is full of good people as well as basement dwelling neckbeards.

I don't think you should make fun of your friend for reading it ESPECIALLY IF YOU READ CELEB GOSSIP BRAYSON I MEAN COME ON - that's a bit of hypocrisy no? ;P

  47. Emancipation.
    Get your own lawyer.
    Go to court.
If this doesn't work out, in two years the well will dry up for your parents.
If this is true, I am so sorry for you.

  48. Fat Abbott in South Park had useful advice on how to deal with a problem parent:

"Snatch his ass in a bear trap! Leave that motherfucker swingin' from a tree so high, nobody finds him for days! Glock-glock, you know what I'm sayin'? Dumbass motherfucker pullin' shit! Damn!"

    ReplyDelete
  49. So the girl is being financially abused but doesn't want to leave her 'career'. Shouldn't we be telling her to find a child abuse/financial abuse lawyer who will work on a contingency basis? Stop it now, baby. We're on your side. If we are stewards of our minors we should be advising her to jettison this horror/illegality for her own good.

  50. Do kids actually say "Grasping at straws"?
If the post is real and not a troll/hoax, I'm thinking Milly Shapiro from "Hereditary"

  51. Emancipation immediately!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. If McKenna Grace's dad is an orthopedic surgeon and they are only upper middle class, he's not in the right market.

Whoever he/she is, I hope they can find someone who can offer good advice.

    ReplyDelete
  53. She can open her own account. Poor thing

    ReplyDelete
  54. Talk your family lawyer instructing him to open up a living trust or a simple trust fund making you the primary beneficiary when you become of legal age. All of your present and future funds should go to this trust. Your father will still be the trustor but won't easily be able to access those funds freely.
Make sure that the terms (articles) of this trust are VERY CLEAR AND PRECISE.

  55. I would advise against emancipation for moral reasons. They are still your family....

  57. The law states that a COOGAN ACCOUNT must be set up for minors in California who are in the industry:

Since a minor cannot legally control their own money, California Law governs their earnings and creates a fiduciary relationship between the parent and the child. This change in California law also requires that 15% of all minors' earnings must be set aside in a blocked trust account commonly known as a Coogan Account.
