Aaron Sorkin
His movie Trial of Chicago 7 was shutdown
I am gobsmacked by the fact that Hollywood tolerates this kind of behavior. These actors, directors, producers Etc make immense quantities of money and yet they're allowed to bring production to a halt because of their own drug or alcohol abuse problems? It beggars belief.
Sorkin has the "correct" politics, so he gets away with it. Bryan Singer has powerful friends, so he gets away with it.
@nuttyflavor
You forgot that they are both white dudes
Sorkin loves his coke
Sure, notthisagain. R Kelly has been getting away with stuff for decades because he is a white dude.
Same for JayZ - murder, threats, human trafficking - but he gets away with it because he is a white dude.
Plus they have a history of producing hits.
@nuttyflavor
I was talking about the film industry ya dumb cunt.
JayZ and RKelly aren’t in the film industry, where mediocre white dude filmmakers reign.
really lost a lot of respect for sorkin after the steve jobs movie. there was a lot to unpack from Jobs's life, but half of the movie was spent talking about what a shitty father he was. fuck you widow of jobs and sorkin for fucking that movie up and wasting fassbender's talent
Well as bad a father as Jobs was, I am sure he was 1000000X better than his own father who totally abandoned him.
Sorkin does have a history of loving the cocaine.
Hollywood tolerates it for the same reason Hollywood tolerated RDJ's difficult years - TALENT.
True talent is special and unparalleled - Sorkin is a talented writer & everything else and RDJ GLOWS on any screen you put him on.
Look at all the bland-ass people we don't care about. Victoria Justice much? She's pretty but there's nothing there. Then you take Reese Witherspoon - she really BRINGS something to the screen. I also think Hayden P is an excellent actress regardless of her personal issues. I love watching Hayden on TV.
So yeah - talent.
Directing a film has got to be obsessive and exhausting so I'm surprised anyone is able to get it done without having coke on standby towards the end.
Mary Smith's comment referred to drugs/alcohol, nothing more unsavory. Many employers will work with their employees who have substance abuse issues, even public school systems. Agree with 'talent wins out' here.
@hunter
Agreed. Sorkin has done coke before to make it through rough weeks of writing and directing. If artists feel stuck for any reason, they will go back to their addictions to revive themselves or give them courage.
Yes, talent is the reason Sorkin is tolerated, and the fact that he isn't demanding or throws tantrums or terrorizes his actors and crew like David O. Russell (whose career seems to be on hold.) Sorkin has cheap shoots as well and makes the most of his actors' talents. He has a lot of support in H'Wood.
Why don't you just call your blog,
"Everyone In Hollywood is Using", and be done with it.
Hollywood is different from normal businesses. Their product doesn't come from factories employing Chinese laborers. It requires people of talent and every production is a gamble. People like Sorkin with a proven track record are incredibly valuable.
That's why studios out up with so much crap.
Well said MattDaddy. Behaviour is tolerated in the talented. As well it should.
The Chicago 7 movie hasn't started filming yet.
