Today's Blind Items - He Wanted To Be The Star

I find it ironic that the person he tried to frame for murder is actually the one that helped him become a star. Several decades ago now, there was a fairly popular late night show that was part of a late night lineup on a cable network that kind of faded away. One of the stars of this show was beloved and was set to be on to bigger and better things. The thing is though, one of his co-stars wanted the spotlight all to himself. What to do? Kill your co-star. So, he did. Before he did though, he arranged for his co-star to have an affair with the wife of this A list writer/director. So, when the star was murdered, the police immediately looked to the A list writer/director as the culprit which gave enough time for the murderer to hold a vigil at the crime scene and invited thousands of people to attend. Thousands didn't show up, but enough did to make any hope of ever getting evidence impossible. Later, the A list writer/director helped the murderer land his own show never knowing the truth.

Who's the alleged murderer?

@circus nailed it. David Sniderman aka David Jove is the alleged murderer.

Yup, sounds like Jove is the subject.

From Peter Ivers' Wiki:

"The scene was contaminated, and officers even allowed David Jove to leave with the blood-stained blankets from Ivers' bed. Harold Ramis was briefly considered a suspect in the murder (due to Ivers' close relationship with Harold's wife Ann), but was quickly cleared after he was able to establish an alibi.

Several of Ivers friends told biographer Josh Frank that they suspected David Jove, with whom the musician had a sometimes-contentious relationship. Harold Ramis noted, "As I grew to know David a little better, it just accumulated, all the clues and evidence just made me think he was capable of anything. I couldn't say with certainty that he'd done anything, but of all the people I knew, he was the one person I couldn't rule out." However, Derf Scratch (of the band Fear) and several other members of the Los Angeles punk and New Wave scene have maintained Jove's innocence."

Jove is the same creep who along with police, set up the big Stones drug bust in London in the 60's.

I just learned about this a few weeks ago. IFC has been running remixed episodes from Night Flight footage and there was a mention of the co-hosts's violent death. I went down an internet rabbit hole on that one.
