Blind Items Revealed #37

December 28, 2018

Think back to the biggest violent Rock Deaths of the last few decades and one will probably stand out.

This is NOT that death. But think within a decade or so. Same coast, different style, different music, different weapon.

Like the big death, conspiracy theories abounded about possible foul play. Focusing on someone close to The Late Musician. These theories are both convincing and enduring.

What they don’t tell you is that this theory is perpetuated and supported online still after all these years by certain family members of The Late Musician. It is very much in their best interest to keep these conspiracies active and growing because it directs attention away from information that might make them look culpable in other, more indirect ways, for his untimely and tragic death.

Due to the litigious nature of these people, confidants, biographers and journalists have only been able to hint at the nightmare childhood The Late Musician endured. Not only abuse from a close family member but at the hands of others with the full knowledge and enabling of said family member. He wasn’t the only one who was hurt either.  The Late Musician spoke about this often and unambiguously,  off the record, shortly before his death. His next record was going to explicitly tell all.

The family member contacted him again, repeatedly. It contributed to a slide into paranoia, shame and despair.

If friends (or family) of The Late Musician even look like they might make accusations of the #metoo variety the lawyers will quickly put an end to them. The worst part is that they use the profits from his music to do this. People are silenced almost before they can open their mouths.

It will , perhaps, come to light one day in the future. I hope so. He was a sweet human being and  no one deserves what he went through.

Elliott Smith

He was sexually abused by his step dad for as long as he can remember.

The Rilo Kiley song "hail to whatever you found in the sunlight that surrounds you".

The timing of this post is so strange to me as when I was driving this afternoon I randomly thought of the song "someone that I used to know" and started to think of Elliott, his music, his untimely death. then I see this post here on CDAN and it kinda weirds me out a little. This makes me terribly sad. Not just for Elliott but also for Jenn and all of the bullshit she has had thrown at her not only from the Smith family but also from fans. All I can say is that I hope that there is justice in whatever "afterlife" there may be. Elliott was such a kind and amazingly wonderful person and he most certainly didn't deserve the hand he was dealt. This is too much for me, I need a drink.

@laundryroom err you forgot this "These theories are both convincing and enduring"

Convincing for many reasons. The fact that he was abused doesn't exclude the fact he may have been murdered, it just makes the truth more complicated to be revealed.

@Meggie his girlfriend may have killed him. to sum it up (but there are many other things) they were arguing and she said she locked herself in the bathroom when he stabbed himself. However, he had two deep stab wounds in the chest, with no hesitation marks and possible defensive cuts on his palm and right arm. He was also stabbed through the clothes, the sternum/cartilage were injured and all these features are rare in case of suicide. Suicide by stabbing is already rare, less than 2-3% of all suicides and most of the people stab themselves in the abdomen or the throat.

Exactly how much in profit is his music bringing in 15 years after his death? It was barely profitable when he was alive, and that was probably mostly from live performances.

@Brian. exactly, Plus, I know for a fact that they give to a lot of charities, and they had to pay the lawyers for 3 years because the girlfriend sued them to get a large part of the estate. She lost.

I had to go to Wiki to see who this guy was. I still don't know, never heard any of his stuff.

@Do Tell more's the pity. Elliott was an absolutely brilliant songwriter and musician. His talent was beyond measure and the abuse he endured and the way he died was absolutely horrific. I'm one of the many who believes he was murdered, and would love to see everyone who had a hand in harming him come to justice.

This doesn't make any sense at all. Why would powerful forces care if it was revealed his redneck step-dad had abused him?

And to those who pointed out that he wasn't exactly a household name and a money machine, dittos.

all his songs are great (but I am biased).
I also would like to kill the myth of the sad sack or tormented artist, he was much more than that

I've never heard of this guy but it does sound like he was murdered from what I've googled.
