Today's Blind Items - My Turn
I was there because of this one hit wonder that I had been working with. Their song is still played today and is still catchy for not being very upbeat at all. I always found the song kind of depressing, but hey, it was a paycheck. This was supposed to be the year of the competing foreign born A+ list singers at that time, one of whom is permanently such. It turned out to be though this orgy like week with the aforementioned never to be seen again group living life as stars like they were never going to have another chance. It turns out they were right. They had coke and women and all kinds of drugs. They even managed to drag women away from the still today permanent A+ list rapper. He had my favorite song that year. Probably still my favorite song by him.
I wonder if this former A list country singer remembers the pawing and hitting on she got from a still today permanent A+ list singer in the same genre. She might have been old enough to drive. Maybe.

I love these first hand blinds with all sorts of characters colliding!thinking
Great guesses
Dena and Trinak-- I think some combo of several of those...still thinking, tho!
+1 Trinak, I think you've got it.
LeAnn is 36 now,so try age 16 for the year. Michael Richards on Sinefeld so they might have him at Grammies Make it 1998 or 1999. It would be ironic if LeAnn and Garth,as his future wife competed with her for the same hit. "How Do I Live? "
All I can think of when I hear that phrase is Hillary Clinton.
Although I'd lean more Jay-Z
Andy Dick Hosting Billboard Awards! Definitely the winner! This was during OG Enty's glory days.
I wonder if it was Marcy Playground for the not upbeat one hit.
"Sex and Candy" the title sounds like a chapter from the pedo handbook.
"Closing time" is the song by Semisonic. I tbink. Enty know more than his share of one hit wonders.
I think things makes sense!! :) Good job!!
Very nicely done, everyone!
Probably is Marcy Playground, multiple nominations that year. Jay Z was nominated, LeAnn and Garth, Shania and Celine, also noms. Well done.
James Blunt, You're Beautiful for one hit wonder that is catchy and depressing?
Lol, at first I thought it was just the obligatory Andy Dick guess, but it was spot on! Raging coke head. Great detective work.
Wish I could still enjoy watching News Radio, but I get too bummed about Phil (RIP).
Never heard of Next before, but their song is the basis of that girl why you lying meme song. they are gods!
Next, Marcy Playground, and Semisonic are all MN bands and what a time to be a Minnesotan! As a former resident of the North Star state, I’d like to take Semisonic off the One Hit Wonder list. Besides having multiple hits, Dan Wilson is a Grammy award winning songwriter and has written hits for Taylor Swift and Adele and is also a phenomenal solo artist (although kinda low key).
I stan for Dan
Andy Dick!
I met Andy Dick at a party about six (?) years ago. I was working for a celebrity led magazine as a writer and the editor wanted me to be pictured with a celebrity for the masthead. (Heavy sigh.) So I went up to Andy Dick, said, "I need a picture with a celebrity" and he said, "Well then maybe you should go find one." I said, 'I can't find any: you'll have to do." He heaved a big sigh and said FINE and we tookt the pic.
Maybe Jim Carrey for trainwreck prior to his getting movies.
That is hilarious! Perfect line.
GODDAMMIT AMAZING QUOTES!!
What you got a new gig posting eJobs?!!? That's some bullshit. We let you hang out here because you're polite and you only post once a thread and it's quotes! Amazing and enthusiastic quotes.
But eJobs? Nah man, bring the quotes back.
Hunter- I love your vigilant, yet steady hand with Amazing Quotes. And, Agreed!
@Troy Dyer --
I'll see your Next, Marcy Playground and Semisonic, and raise you a Husker Du, Replacements and Soul Asylum. Now THAT -- mid-1980s -- was a time to be in the Twin Cities! And then there was that guy, what's his name ... oh yeah, Prince.
I thought Pauly Shore.
This makes me like Andy Dick just a tiny bit.
All great bands (can’t forget Soul Asylum, The Hold Steady, and everything Jimmy Jam & Terry’s Lewis) and suffice to say without The ‘Mats and Hüsker Dü, that whole grunge thing probably wouldn’t have happened.
I’m glad you brought up Prince because it reminded me of when I was back in MN working and got to take my mom- who played a lot of the bands you and I mentioned in our household- to see Prince at the Xcel center. We had nosebleeds but I can still remember how we cried together during Purple Rain (along with the whole audience) and her dancing and singing along to the concert. She passed away in 2010 so it’s fun to reminisce on those times
Dang I think y'all nailed it, with one (maybe two) exception(s). I think the competing foreign-born singers were Celine Dion and Alanis Morissette.
It looks like Alanis cleaned up that year. Celine was nominated for multiple awards as well. The ladies faced off for best album and Jagged Little Pill took home the award.
The following link matches up with what most of y'all are guessing also.
