Today's Blind Items - Tales From The Road

It has been awhile since I shared some on the road stories from traveling or being around bands. Plus, these are not the usual suspects in blinds.

#1 - This celebrity offspring of a permanent A+(maybe A++) lister had a really successful band of his own. Then he got not one, but two girlfriends of band members pregnant and the band broke up and no one wanted to work with him for a long time.

#2 - This 90's band that was popular for not only its own songs but a hit remake of a former hit song broke up because the lead singer of the band had a massive ego from the success and refused to be in the same vehicle or place or bus or whatever with anyone else from the band. He also demanded first access of any groupie and paid a bounty to roadies of $500 a night to who could find the best looking groupie for him to sleep with that night.

#3 - This former A+ list mostly movie actress who is an Academy Award winner/nominee and someone who has been in many blinds, whether long or like this, said she was saved from a rape by this one hit wonder who does reality now, only because he ended up getting sick and had to go puke. She took that chance to run. Years later when she was famous he tried to hit on her and she could tell he had no idea she was the same person from the bus.

3. Vanilla ice for one hit wonder??

Adam Durwitz-The Joni Mitchell song good call

For #1 I also thought Jakob Dylan but I checked and all 4 of his kids are with his wife.

For #2 I really feel like this is Evan Dando/the Lemonheads. They had a huge hit with their cover of Mrs. Robinson.

MDAnderson said...

1. Julian Casablanca from the Strokes as another possibility??

sandybrook said...

Yeah MD Ice Ice Baby would fit her time-line for when she was unknown.

Natalie said...

#2 Fred Durst. They remade Faith. Both hits. And he's a douche and no one likes him.

Do Tell said...

Yeah, I immediately thought Jakob Dylan for #1

E said...

I think you're right with Dando/Lemonheads

And those kids of Jakob's could just be the ones he admits to. Or the girlfriends could have had abortions maybe?

O/T

Just saw spoilers for last two GoT over on Reddit. They've been dead on this series so far. Don't panic, I'm saying nowt but will put up the link if anyone want it.

#2 Chris Robinson/The Black Crowes
Song: Hard to Handle originally by Otis Redding

Alf Landon said...

#2 Dando- He was an ass to everyone including the audience

Me, too. Ain't nepotism grand?

#2 is Guns N’ Roses axel was my neighbor used to come to our parties, used to get super effed up and spill all the tea...the cover song is knocking on heaven door (by bob dylan)

Florin said...

Other option for #2: Marilyn Manson with Sweet Dreams.

Lucky13 said...

Can't be GnR, they were an 80s band that also covered "Live And Let Die" successfully.

Can't be Manson, either, his band's still going (he's still touring with Rob Zombie right now).

Kellikopter said...

Vic I think I might have already read them, but jic they're different, could you please post the link?

nancer said...

i still think #1 is dylan. he has kids with his wife but also knocked up bandmates' girlfriends? not hard to believe. seemed like he had a real career going on and then crickets so i think he fits.

C’est Vrai said...

Still think #2 is Guns...sorry...got too much tea from axel and they were also big in the 90s which is when I met him. I’m sticking with my guess.

Flashy Vic said...

@Kellikopter.

Probably the same ones but here they are.....

I always think of Guns N Roses as more 90s, for some reason, even though the spanned late 80s / early 90s, maybe they were more mainstream in the 90s and more in the rock crowd in the 80s?

JL said...

First thought for #1 was Jakob Dylan but Bob is surely unquestioningly A++? Also Bob never kjown for his “band.”

My second guess: Ziggy Marley.

#3 First thought was Julia Roberts.

gauloise said...

@JL, its sad, but many millenials have never heard of bob dylan, so i think that is why there is the question between A+ or A++, he isn't in the same iconic status as Elvis, Beatles or MJ.

gauloise said...

@JL, Ziggy Marley and the melody makers were ZIggy and his siblings.

hothotheat said...

#1 Jason Bonham to be different.

E said...

Bob Dylan is unquestionably A++

Nosey Parker said...

1- Jakob Dylan
2- Chris Robinson (Black Crowes)
3- Robin Thicke (one hit wonder) and ? actress.

Vita said...

#1 fits Jakob Dylan perfectly, including how they just sort of disappeared.

#2 I thought Counting Crows, too, but Smashing Pumpkins is a great guess, particularly the massive ego part. But, since SP includes a female, I'll stick with CC

#3 not sure

PurplePuffin said...

I went straight to comments since I have no idea. #3 is probably Vanilla Ice and Renee Zellweger. I know "Vanilla" (Rob) personally. Once you get past the tattoos and the fact that he is/was Vanilla Ice, he's a regular kind of guy with cute children. I am sure he did some bad stuff back in the day, but he has mellowed with age.

Jwill said...

1) Donovan Leitch, maybe?

Ava said...

I totally guessed Jakob Dylan for number one.

Ava said...

Number two reads like Axl but I feel they are definitely more 80s therefore eliminating him

gauloise said...

More interesting than these blinds is the lead singer of 90s one hit wonder Color Me Badd

He was on Dr Phil yesterday:

"Bryan Abrams, the lead singer of 1990s R&B group Color Me Badd, about his addictions to alcohol, pills and food and erratic, physically abusive behavior, which caused a fellow band member to get a restraining order against him."

I remember when they were on 90210 and Donna was stalking them in some hotel

Henriette said...

Jakob Dylan for number one. He and his band, the Wallflowers, just disappeared.

Magnolia Melee said...

I caught a glimpse of that episode, were his eyebrows painted on??

TruRes said...

Please elaborate. I heard he enjoys cheese platters and perfect accompanying wines also.

Vita said...

Gauloise-- watching the dr phil as i type this (dvr,lol)...but, your description of the 90210 episode reminds me of one of my favorite Laverne & Shirley episodes, when they sneak in the hotel to meet Fabian! He sang "Turn Me Loose" and they lost their minds. I loved that show, even though half of the double entendres, etc flew right over my head as a little kid.

syanide said...

Fun fact, he actually doesn’t have a history of banging groupies.

I'm Outraged! said...

Bob Dylan is easily A++, anybody who thinks he isn't has a musical history knowledge that is D--.

d. said...

Not Adam Duritz / Counting Crows for #2. They're still together and touring.

Mingbot LaRue said...

Just to be different I was was going to say #1 Crispian Mills of Kula Shaker (son of Hayley Mills, acting royalty) but I can't see anything about him having multiple kids to any other women

Danielle said...

I hope this gets revealed. I have no good guesses for two and three. I am willing to believe that number one is Jakob Dylan. He’s got a new project so the timing of this is appropriate. I was a huge fan. And I wondered when the first guy left The Wallflowers why he would be so stupid as to do that. I can totally see how some girl if a backup band member would’ve offered Jakob charms/fallen for his charms.

Angela said...

The bandmates in the Wallflowers, except the former keyboard guy, are all expendables. In the studio, it's always been mostly session musicians who back up Jakob Dylan. That's one of the true reasons for which the band never got a stable line-up. Members are just back-up musicians with little involvement over the actual musical direction.

Fifi LaRue said...

#1 Dhani Harrison, or Sean Lennon

Scandi Sanskrit said...

No please not him, “Govinda” was wonderful.

Scandi Sanskrit said...

I was afraid somebody might say this...

Vita said...

Geez, lots of good guesses for #2!

Henriette said...

@Rustie
Julian Lennon was always a solo act
Number 2 is not Axle. Guns & Roses was a pure 80's band.

Henriette said...

My guesses:
1. Jakob Dylan
2. The Counting Crows lead singer, Robinson. He is a reported douchebag.
3. Kate Hudson

Urban Rosebud said...

I know who Bob Dylan is, however with all the amazing voices out there & truly truly talented singers (Jim Morrison was a beast) people praise Bob Dylan who sounded like a cat in heat scratching its nails on a chalkboard.

Please explain the appeal of Bob Dylan?
Why is he so important & lauded during a time with so many singers / bands far more talented & worthy of the popularity Dylan received?

His activism was pretty much on par with many others at the time as well. If you would so kindly recommend any songs that embody this genius & deserved legacy, by all means please post them below.

No disrespect. Patty Smith's voice is not the best, but she ROCKS & hard, so I stan for Patty. Jim Morrison (The Doors - Manzarek on the keys LEGENDARY), Clapton, Hendrix, Joplin, Cook, Gaye can stay on rotation along with so many more during that era. But Bob seems to rise above even to this day???? WTF & why? Did he come from a rich and / or military family or something???

I want to get into Bob & understand. But that voice...is it the lyrics / the band maybe? Because after about 2 bars, I have to tap out.

AtlantAnne said...

1. No idea

2. Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes. I grew up with him & his brother. Richie is sweet, Chris is a dick.

3. Is this connected to number 2 in this blind? If so, Kate Hudson. If not, no clue.

AtlantAnne said...

Actually, I know that #2 is factual for the Black Crowes.... Chris had his own tour bus out of personal preference but also because nobody wanted to spend time with him, he is a HUGE a-hole.

Kate k said...

Adam Durwitz was in Counting Crows, Chris Robinson was in Black Crows.

Boo said...

My first thought for #1 was SEAN LENNON. Just like Rustie posted.

Puddy said...

First person I thought of too.

Puddy said...

1. No idea, but I'll hop on the Jakob Dylan wagon (wheel).
2. Sounds like Fred Durst to me, but could apply to plenty of others.
3. Renee Zellweger and ????? One hit wonder is a pretty vague clue.
