My first boyfriend was 19 when I was 16 and a junior in high school. My parents were pretty strict, but were ok with that as long as we weren't alone together with any doors shut and they knew where we were going.

Had a similar situation, Mormons are fucking weird. I have tons of stories about that time period. We waited of course, I wasn't sure I even liked her. Her mom approached me to date her daughter she was shy. Turns out she was banging all my friends. So waiting didn't matter.
Back in my day when they actually held kids back, it wouldn't be uncommon for a 2nd year senior to date a sophomore. No one thought it was gross, everyone just knew that these guys were idiots and that no one in their own grade would date them.
Three years is huge difference pre-high school, but once the younger hits freshman year it's pretty normal.
Looking back now in my 40s, I can't even tell that most HS kids aren't the same age.

I was also a nice guy...once.I learned my lesson early. After that I slept with whoever I wanted to and that's the way it was. Tears meant nothing to me :)
Nearly 20...so he was 19 and she was 16? I don't really see the big scandal in that.
Big difference between a 16 year old dating a 20 year old and a 16 year old and a 30 year old. I feel like if their high school gears could have overlapped, it's ok.
I dated a 20 year old when I was 16. We were together for five years. His parents were not too thrilled at first, but they came to love me eventually. I lied to my parents for the first six months, till he accidentally left his wallet and my mom found it!
I believe a four years difference is the max in regards to age difference when it becomes an issue.
I was 20 and my boyfriend was 17 lol but we had been dating for a few years at that point and he was a lot more mature for his age than normal guys. Not that much different lol
If "foreign born" means British then this is perfectly legal and not shocking at all. Remember it's completely legal to drink alcohol at 16 in Britain, and we don't infantalise our teenagers the way American culture does. No one in the UK would blink at a 16 year old woman having sex, and a four-year age difference isn't that huge.
16 is legal in australia. a 16 and 19 year old dating? who gives a fuck.
