Four For Friday - That Time Of The Year

For the past few months, the permanent A list actress who is an Oscar winner/nominee has been willing to talk to me after a years long hiatus. This is not about her so much although she is the one who brought up the topic. We were talking about certain events that happen towards the end of the year and the public even has a term for it even though the culmination is not until late winter or early spring.

It starts now though. It starts now with an organization that has a get together and if you are invited, you better show up or get on their bad side forever. It is also the time of the year that members of this organization will start calling actresses for "dinner meetings." If you don't want to go, you better have a substitute. A former A+ list mostly movie actress all of you know went on a dozen of those dinner meetings which is why she gets nominated even in years she does't have a movie that necessarily qualifies time wise. There is a married A list dual threat actress who is also an Oscar winner/nominee who did the same thing for five or six years straight two decades ago and now has a younger actress she sends in her place. This all began because of this back in the day really bad actress. Like Tori Spelling bad. The actress took on five or six of these guys and the next thing you know she was bathed in glory. Since that time, everyone knew how to get ahead. Many many take advantage of it. Lest you think actors don't have to do anything, you would be wrong. They also have dinner meetings or have been known to have to attend children's birthday parties or be a co-host of a dinner party. This permanent A list mostly movie actor who has a movie out right now has done all of the above.

As for the Oscar winner/nominee who is talking to me again. She says she has been on a lot of dinners, but drew the line at after dinner activities.

    1. “Oh yeah...ya blend.”

My favorite line in that movie.

  29. Tomei is no where near Spelling level bad. My Cousin Vinnie and The Wrestler were both great performances. Plus, enty probably would have called her a drunk actress.

  30. Hillary Swank for one of these, she is always nominated and I never really understood why

    1. Maybe she’s the one talking to Enty??

  31. Amy Irving for Yentl as the bad actress who stated it all, got nominated for an Oscar and Razzie in the same year.

She was in a relationship w Spielberg at the time

  32. Jennifer Connelly= A list dual threat actress Oscar winner from two decades ago.

Her performance in a beautiful was nothing much.

    ReplyDelete
  33. why did Julia Roberts fall out with her brother Eric?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Talking to you Enty: Jennifer Lawrence

for some reason, Nicole Kidman and Kate Winslet come to find as those who played the game.

Something that involves the Hollywood Foreign Press: Pia Zadora set that standard.

Awards season: Globes, Oscars, etc. Jan - Feb.

  35. Is this how Black Panther was nominated and won Oscars at this year's ceremony, despite releasing a month before last year's ceremony (and not being very good)?

    1. Oscsrs go by calendar year, not ceremony to ceremony. Need to have a theater release by Dec 31 to qualify for the awards the next march. Thats why movies thought to be Oscar contenders usually come out between Turkey Day & New Years, even if it is one screen in LA, then full roll out in Jan/Feb.

  36. @Lucky13 Black Panther rode the trend of INDEED nominate a strong diversity feature. And Boseman was in 42 etc. I don't think it made it because actresses put out. So much goes into the BEST PIC nominee but actresses individually (and/or actors) are a different breed set apart. That being said, everyone loves condemning these folks. IT sucks it is like it but IF your own career was what would you do? AN hour of compromise would mean MILLIONS in your pocket, future nominations and accolades. We just don't "live this life" perse but I don't condemn an actress who has SUPER STARDOM dangled in front of her (and on ht opposite end BLACKLISTING etc) for deciding to further herself. It is way too complicated to condemn. Most of us are NEVER in this position of power, possibility, potential HUGE money. It isn't like "do I let my boss harass me to keep this sh*tty position at the company"..... come on.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Maybe Marisa Tomei is the one talking. It was revealed Weinstein effectively wrecked her career because she wasn’t putting out.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Is this the "club"? Where you also have to let paparazzi take pics of your kids?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Renee Zellweger as the Oscar nom/winner talking to Enty again. And if she's active in this circuit now (thats how I read it), it's for the Judy Garland bio out next month

    1. Good call. The other A list actresses mentioned are too big to bother with enty.

  43. Children's birthday parties - no - I bet it's more about impressing the parent's of Little Timmy's friends than nonce-related activities.

It's still demeaning, like being a paid clown.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Several of you have mentioned Leo DiCaprio, and his current fake GF Camila Morrone was at the Hollywood Foreign Press event at the Regent Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills a few days ago; Arnie, Sly and several other where also at the event and I know all these men would love to ball Cami. Can we speculate Leo sent her there to engage in sex acts with higher-ups?

Cami knows her mother raised her by being Al Pacino sugar baby, so it would not shock her to do the same.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oh please co-hosting a dinner party or showing up at a kid's birthday is to impress etc - say a straight producer wants a favor that isn't sexual perse. All that being said, no wonder it sucks to lose and not for just the obvious reason and disappointment but knowing you put out and compromised just to get a nomination and know you might have to put out again the next time.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I never saw Yentl and I hope I never see it.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Agree that it is likely Renee that is speaking to Enty again. Also, Pia Zadora for the really bad back in the day actress, for the Golden Globes. But she wasn't the first, she was the one who made it obvious how the business was run. Renee went a number of years without a decent role, not long after winning an Oscar. Hmmmm, wonder why.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Why would she go to the dinner "meetings" one on one but claim not to have gone any further with it. Would the producers keep asking her back? I don't get it.

Easy to say it was always someone else who said yes.

momo - Yentl wasn't that bad. Ishtar was bad.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Children's parties? The entertainment industry has nothing on church and church leaders who have been at it for centuries.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Don't think it is Renee talking. Think the other guess, Emma Stone is better. People might have missed when Renee was said to have slept with Weinstein, she denied it, despite the press showing a close picture of the two (the press hinted around a lot with pictures of the actresses in question then, if you remember.)

    ReplyDelete
  51. Yentl was a great movie. Funny, touching and artful. Mandy Patinkin was hot as fuck.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I bet Brad Pitt was the one going on these dinners and flirting with or banging the Golden Globe gays.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Definitely Pia Zadora.
    Proof is here..
