Blind Item #10 - Reader Blind

A recent documentary was being put together in a foreign country and hit the same problem area that another documentary did earlier this decade.  Both documentaries were about this beloved deceased comic actor who was in radio, TV, and movies with his biggest success coming in the latter. He was also successful in the USA where he was seen as an exaggerated example of a certain kind of character from his home country. One of his most famous movies involved a lot of other actors.

Both documentaries dug up two allegations of sexual assault both involving domestic servants. The second one occurred when the comic actor was already on his way to success and the woman reported it to the police but due to a combination of the actor’s status and the woman’s lower class nothing was done.

  7. And Paul Hogan's still alive...

  8. The actor is dead. Probably older because he was popular in radio. Probably a bigger star in his home country. Now try to guess, because I can't.

  9. Agree w/ Sandybrook on Cantiflas. “Around the World in 80 Days” was the movie that featured a lot of famous actors.

  11. Peter Sellers?
Movie with a lot of other actors- Dr. Strangelove?
I was thinking Pink Panther about the exaggerated character, but Clouseau is French. I'm not super hip to his filmography, but I know he did radio at one point.

  12. David Niven? Pink Panther. Exaggerated character Sir Charles Lytton.

  13. Benny Hill?

Original Italian Job for the ensemble cast film

  14. Both Dudley Moore and Peter Sellers fit, and Sellers was never known as being 'nice'.

    How's about Desi Arnaz?

  16. Most likely Jerry Lewis. Says 'Home Country", says nothing about foreign born. Recent Doc about him via France. He liked the help to watch him jerk his carrot.

  17. Why the hell am I seeing John Candy pop up as guesses for these blinds all the time now? He was a good dude, as I understand it.

  22. I think the man is British because it says he was 'also successful in the US'. He could be possibly from The Carry on movies. Not sure.

  23. no.. not Benny Hill . that silly guy

  24. For those of us at a certain age John Candy is much more famous for SCTV. Don't know if he did any radio.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I don't think Cantinflas did any radio

  26. Was Candy popular in radio? I doubt it.

  27. David Niven?

  29. The only thing John Candy assaulted was pizzas.

  30. If the hired help was well under 18 then my guess is Jerry Lewis.
Now if they were over 18 then most definitely Jerry Lewis.

  31. I really hate to say it since I love his performances but Terry Thomas also was my first thought. He always played the exaggerated version of an Englishman whereas Peter Sellers was a character comic who played many nationalities. The movie would be It's A Mad, Mad , Mad, Mad World.

  32. Read the blind. Not an american.

  33. I’m going with sandy. Cantinflas.

  34. Would love it to be Jerry Lewis, but without checking on his radio and TV credits, think it's Terry-Thomas.

  35. Sadly, I think this is Benny Hill

  36. Terry Thomas was my first guess too.
