It has been a long time coming, but this former A list author is about to get sued for stealing and not crediting a co-author of the author's best sellers. Apparently, back in the day, the two found each other on a message board devoted to one of their favorite topics. Lets call the victim, MB and we will call our author FF. One day MB emails FF a couple of chapters of a book they were thinking of writing. FF loved it and suggested they collaborate on a book together. The collaboration consisted of MB writing everything and FF making changes here and there. MB didn't really say anything at the time and then FF said they could find a publisher and had a bunch of connections and had an agent (they didn't at the time) and just let FF handle the business stuff. Well, when the time came to finally publish, FF told MB that the publisher only wanted one name on the book but not to worry because we will just make it a combination of our two names. MB agreed, but their name was not included unless you want to count one vowel. As for getting paid, forms were signed and MB was paid. Well, the first book was a hit so the publisher wanted another one. FF convinced MB to churn out yet another book with the promise of a lot of money. It was a decent amount of money but a tiny tiny fraction of what FF was earning. This went on for a few more cycles and then MB got sick and couldn't write or do anything for several years. FF tried to hire a ghostwriter but they didn't have the same style as MB. So, FF kind of faded away. Well, fast forward a few years and MB is talking to a family member who had no idea about the books or anything. They start talking about them and the family member said the books made millions of dollars. MB got about $100K or so. MB found the papers they had signed back in the day and as awful as the terms were towards MB, FF still screwed up because FF was supposed to pay MB. The publisher just paid FF and didn't know about MB. This is all about to come screaming out into the light.
