She was the groom, he was the bride, my friend's hub was the maid of honor. the "dress code theme" was medievel/renaissance, so everyone was dressed as a wench. one tall man, introduced himself as Molly, saying he was "6'6", 6'9" with heels!" :)

flash forward a few years, he (bride) did have gender reassignment surgery. together they met a man they brought into their relationship, he is unaware of the surgery. turns out the new guy is more partial to the newly female partner. the female by birth gets jealous and they divorce over the new guy, who still doesn't know about the surgery... but it was a fun party!Rickatoohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03462341903558952786noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37309174.post-82990605643546475892010-06-12T14:04:22.533-07:002010-06-12T14:04:22.533-07:00I just read my husband all the wedding stories, wh...I just read my husband all the wedding stories, while we are road tripping. Watching the game this morning was beautiful, and I share your love of the joy of the game!!

During the last World Cup I was with some friends in Vietnam. The country is crazy for football, so needless to say the games were broadcast everywhere. The final was broadcast on the beach at a club in Nha Trang at like 2 AM... There were what seemed like a ton of French kids and maybe a handful of Italians. Being that my dad is Italian, I was routing for Italy, but it was so moving how all the fans banded together cheering and crying from so, so far away from home. Needless to say, Italy won and it was amazing, but what an experience... Love the unity and pride that the World Cup evokes.KLMhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14627519881896151075noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37309174.post-63807394518647165882010-06-11T16:48:07.444-07:002010-06-11T16:48:07.444-07:00I'm an England fan all the way. THAT is why this is so wonderful and I have been so excited!

I love it when any team has a joie de vivre like the Brasilenos used to have (when Ronaldino was on the team) but I want to see that other than from the South African team today and it literally makes me cry with joy to see a group of people be happy like that over such a silly thing.

This is so poignant to me that it started in Soweto today - I woke up so early in the morning to watch Mandela get released from jail those many years ago and I had deja vu happy thoughts watching the concert yesterday but was still horrified that such a beautiful concert last night led to such tragedy. I feel so sorry for the Mandela family - it is a tragic flaw that this happened.

So to me, the fact that the first goal scored for THIS world cup...was South African....I get choked up. I will root for any team who plays as a team and does so joyfully. I love that the Brasilians dance in the stands and used to dance on the pitch when they scored. I vote for the team who expresses that joy for this WC. If it is South Africa, Spain, Netherlands, Brasil, France, USA, or Cameroon/Cote d'Ivoire, I will celebrate them and be happy with such a winner. I am not personally a fan of pomposity so I am don't like C. Ronaldo or Rooney. I am crossing fingers that Drogba can play (what a good guy) and no further horrifying tragedies happen (terrorist BS) to spoil the fun.

But, Viva Brasil y España!!!!

Besides, anything to keep me from weeping/obsessing about my precious ocean or other real world tragedies is a good thing.Chacha Lattehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06975712687202445358noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37309174.post-29060805623098789902010-06-11T15:25:38.538-07:002010-06-11T15:25:38.538-07:00Oh, God bless you people for lovin' the soccer...Oh, God bless you people for lovin' the soccer, but to me it's as boring as hell. Anywhere else in the world I'd be happy to call it football.

BlackCat14 - winery? Do tell. Napa Valley? I'll come cheer for any team if wine is involved.

Speaking of wine, my favorite wedding was an Irish wedding reception. It was all civil until they opened the bar. The mad rush was something to see! I didn't have to move. They left biiig bottles of wine at every table, and everyone at my table went for the bar, leaving me with my own open bar. Heh. After that, it was all a blur.

Then there was my cousin's wedding. I was pretty close to her at the time, but I wasn't in the wedding. Know why? She totally dumped me and her best friend for her hubby;'s family. She said that she could only have one more person in her bridal party, and since she couldn't pick between me and her best friend, neither of us would be in the wedding. Oy. I thanked God for saving me when I saw the bridesmaid's dresses. Baby blue polyester. At the reception her dad, who I could not stand, was groping all the bridesmaids. Ew. And I came back to my table to find some strange lady on my dad's lap. Little meek and mild me went ape-shit on her ass. My dad is a good-looking man, but there's no excuse for that kind of ratty behavior. He was trying to be nice. I helped him along. (sigh) Good times...MnGddesshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06517695418429591279noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37309174.post-63644228431266865102010-06-11T14:41:45.898-07:002010-06-11T14:41:45.898-07:00Go Italy!Go Italy!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37309174.post-54005303935478195672010-06-11T14:40:21.985-07:002010-06-11T14:40:21.985-07:00My boyfriend at the time was standing up in his fr...My boyfriend at the time was standing up in his friend's wedding. There is so much excitement about these games and noise and flag waving, and did I mention, so so much noise.
Wednesday, the whole office block dressed in yellow and trekked out to the main road to wave flags and blow vuvuselas. We were no where near where the national team would be but that didn't stop anyone at all. All the cars and taxis and trucks hooted and slowed and passengers honked their vuvuselas, waved their flags. We are talking a very busy 6 lane road, but it was just happy, smiling noisy chaos.

The general feeling is that Bafana Bafana haven't got a hope in hell, but what does it matter, we are happy, we love all the visitors and we are so proud to have the games here.

Hope you enjoy the games Enty : )Searchinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06607764445908947611noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37309174.post-56689167059488505702010-06-11T13:39:28.739-07:002010-06-11T13:39:28.739-07:00I plan on keeping a close eye on USA, Mexico and E...I plan on keeping a close eye on USA, Mexico and England, but I plan on watching as many games as I can.

KLM - I hear ya. My friends and I were in Paris, on the Champs-Elysées, during one of France's important games. France won, and the street was immediately flooded with celebrating fans. My friend and I were standing on the side of the road watching all the excitement, when 2 guys on a vespa drove past. The guy riding on the back (not driving) reached out... and grabbed my boob (I'm rather large chested). It was totally inappropriate but so damn funny, so all I could do was laugh - I had just been drive-by groped by a Frenchman on a vespa lol.Jillhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12437601696952027266noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37309174.post-60560726727865246562010-06-11T13:34:25.472-07:002010-06-11T13:34:25.472-07:00My husband is Brazilian, so I have to root for Bra...My husband is Brazilian, so I have to root for Brazil. It was not the first wedding for either. I kid you not .. on the way back down the aisle after the ceremony the bride's ex-boyfriend leaned over to her and whispered to her that he had made a mistake letting her go. They got back together at the reception. Of course, she didn't tell her new husband until they'd left for their Hawaiian honeymoon. By the time they returned, the newlyweds agreed that she would live with the ex-boyfriend on weekends and with her new husband during the week until she figured out what she wanted to do! I was a date for a good friend who had been invited to a co-workers wedding. The couple getting married had 2 kids already and been together for 15 years. He is black and she is white. Her sister, the maid of honor proceeded to get so drunk that when it was her turn to speak she got up, grabbed the mike and said, "i just wanted to say hello to my new family" she put her hands up in the style of raise the roof and in a bad bluesy black mans voice said"what's up my COUSINS" it was horrendous. The grooms mother ran up, grabbed the mike, gave it to the dj and told the bride to get her sister out of there. you could hear a pin drop. we left at that point because we didn't really know anyone and how could the evening get any better?Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17962991434449782181noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37309174.post-27919530076160489872010-06-11T13:10:46.460-07:002010-06-11T13:10:46.460-07:00I'm watching, I am pleased that SA got a draw ...I'm watching, I am pleased that SA got a draw today.
