I used to see a dozen or more live shows a year in my 20's, not including festivals and club gigs.

Hubby and I decided to take our kids to see FF this year. HA! First, you had to have a pre order code to even GET tickets the day they went on sale. If you weren't so lucky (like us), the secondary market (which is basically where bands are recouping the album sale losses) was the ONLY place to find more than 1 ticket together, unless you wanted gen adm. But insane ticket prices, on top of "service fees", insane concession prices (you want how much for a bottle of water?), parking fees, and the sheer balls of charging almost as much for a cheap, Chinese printed T-shirt as the ticket? Meanwhile, all of the good clubs are gone, or bought by ClearChannel or House Of Blues, and priced the fuck out.

But what do you expect? Every industry is like this now. $$$, yo. And idiots pay it. And it's correct - tickets used to sell albums - now albums sell tickets. Nobody buys albums, so to make money, bands have to charge more for tickets and t-shirts. It's all fucked up.

I remember when $20 would get me a ticket, a t-shirt, and a coke and a hot dog at a show, and I saw a LOT of bands when they'd come through in the summer. Now, there's less shows, that most people have to save up all year to get a ticket, the venues too big and sound like shit, and you need an extension on your credit lines to buy a shirt. IF that band comes through your town.

Besides, nobody goes to shows to hear the music anymore, they go so they can hold up their phone and brag about going on social media to all their friends who are too broke to go.
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37309174.post-2920258149531133942018-06-15T11:40:02.953-07:002018-06-15T11:40:02.953-07:00I saw Cheap Trick at a tiny club in New Mexico, 15...I saw Cheap Trick at a tiny club in New Mexico, 150 people or so and it was fun.
