Today's Blind Items - The Second Movie Ruined My Life

Even when this actress opens up about her past and tells you things that make you feel like you are getting it all, she will add a little nugget that makes the story even more incredible. She is from celebrity royalty. Everyone knows the last name and no, it is not Barrymore, but you are headed in the right direction. Everyone knows a little something about her drug and alcohol problems. They don't know it all. They assume it is a family thing, genetic perhaps. They wouldn't be wrong, but she says there were some moments in her youth and the youth of family members that contributed to all the death and destruction that has surrounded her life.

This is one of those moments. She was still in her mid teens when she began working in movies. It's funny, but everyone assumes her first movie would have given her the most nightmares. She says that movie was fine. It was the second that still gives her nightmares.

Even though she was in her mid teens, she had been having sex for a few years. For the most part, the men she was having sex with were in their 20's and 30's. Looking back, she realizes how messed up that sounds, but an older family member she looked up to had been doing the same thing, so our actress assumed it was OK.

On her second movie, she says she was alone with an actor when he violently raped her. He had been groping and pawing her for about a week and one day he dragged her to an empty set and raped her. He then told her to never tell anyone about it. Every day for the next two weeks of filming, if he managed to see her alone, he would take her somewhere and rape her.

She actually did tell that close family member. That close family member said if our actress told anyone that even if they believed her, nothing would happen to the actor and that our actress would never get anymore work.

So, our actress turned to drinking and drugs to forget and to numb herself. She has tried to kill herself multiple times.

  1. JLC's second movie was the Fog, wonder what actor it was?

  2. Jamie's first movie was Halloween (would give her nightmares) and her second movie was The Fog with her mother Janet Leigh and a bunch of older actors whom I don't know much about.

  3. PHilips’s second movie is White And Black directed by Toback with RDJ,Leto and Stiller

    2. Another one for Bridget Fonda guess, with Jane being Ms Daddy Issues, and either Peter or Henry being who she confided in- he of the legendary tact [\sarc]
The only thing is her firsr film was techically Easy Rider when she was 5, but didn’t start properly until her teens. Her next big part was Scandal. Accepting that it probably wasn’t Ian McKellan, we are talking John Hurt downwards...and although he wasn’t known to be sweetness and light, I have a hard tume thinking Hurt would do that.

    3. Sorry misread- so (assuming the story is real and guess is correct), Bridget for the confidant.

  12. Actually, I think Mariel Hemingway does make more sense than Makenzie Phillips. First film was Lipstick, which was about sexual assault.

  13. Mariel first film Lipstick; second Manhattan. First would seem to have been more traumatic.

  18. Yeah, sounds more like Hemingway than the other guesses!

  19. And Margaux killed herself. Marial H. is a great guess. "Lipstick", her first movie was about a rape. And "Manhattan" would have brought her into Woody Allen's orbit.

  22. I can see Mariel for this.

  23. definitely mariel hemingway but the order of the movies may be the red herring here. of course we all assume that manhattan/woody allen would be the one that messed with her mind, but it wasn't her first. i'm going to guess "star 80" for the movie in which she was groped and raped repeatedly. she played dorothy stratten, murdered playboy model. eric roberts was her co-star.

  24. Mariel Hemingway:

"In a 2013 television documentary film, Running from Crazy, Hemingway, then 51, talked of her bouts with mental illness and her still lingering issues with her siblings. She spoke of her family's struggles with alcoholism, mental illnesses and suicide. (In particular she mentioned how her sister Margaux's suicide continued to haunt her.)She also made claims that her parents' marriage was abusive and unhappy, and about abusive incidents in her childhood."

"Lipstick" was "a 1976 American rape and revenge thriller film" (she was 14)

Her second movie is either "I want to keep my baby" (a TV movie) (also 14)

Or, more probably Manhattan (she was 18). Who was the actor, though? Michael Murphy? Marshall Brickmann? Allen himself? Somehow I don't see any of these characters raping Hemingway.

    ReplyDelete
  25. My first thought was Bridget Fonda and Jane Fonda.

Bridget's second movie was Partners w/ Ryan O'Neal and John Hurt.

Noteworthy: her first movie was Easy Rider.

  26. It definitely sounds like Mariel Hemingway but did she ever have serious drug/alcohol issues? Same for Jamie Lee Curtis. If course I assume they've gotten high a few times in their lives, but I don't remember hearing that either of them had serious drug/alcohol issues. Mackenzie Phillips, on the other hand everyone knows about.

  27. I’m not sure it’s MH. I’ve found articles where she speaks admirably of Woody around the time she was 18.

  32. mariel hemingway was my first thought. sticking with it.

  33. In Mariel's book she did say that Allen attempted to have a relationship with her, she was 18.
I really like that guess as well. I did first think of Jamie Lee because i immediately thought horror when I read the 1st movie nightmare. But I do not think she fits. She was older.

  34. "Not Barrymore but you are headed in the. Right direction". Barrymore is a legendary name so I'd say Hemingway is more in that direction than Phillips, Curtis or Arquette.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'll shoot in the Dark - Emma Roberts..? Some elements of the blind fit.
She had some drug issues, she is Julia Roberts's niece. I see that there are some controversies surrounding her family like Julia sister's suicide and in suicide note she said that it's her family's fault that she killed herself..
Not sure about movies, she was in Nickelodeon though..

  36. In this rather interesting interview, Mariel Hemingway seems to state that she never did any drinking or substance abuse. This would make her not the right guess.

  37. Key clues: “She is from celebrity royalty. Everyone knows the last name and no, it is not Barrymore, but you are headed in the right direction.“

“Everyone knows a little something about her drug and alcohol problems.”

“She was still in her mid teens when she began working in movies. It's funny, but everyone assumes her first movie would have given her the most nightmares. She says that movie was fine. It was the second that still gives her nightmares.”

Bijou/Mackenzie come from celebrity royalty? No way. Jamie Lee Curtis FAR more so, but not on a level that compares to Drew Barrymore. Plus the working in movies in her mid teens doesn’t work for JLC.

Fonda and Hemingway are much better bets. Either way, another depressing tale.

    ReplyDelete
  38. AndrewBW, JLC had MAJOR drug issues when she was younger. Her father didn’t know how to be a dad, but she was close to her mother...Mariel moved away from HW to give her kids a more “normal” life. I am pretty sure she admitted to using drugs in the past.

Interesting, I googled her name and drug use and found this article...

    ReplyDelete
  40. @Pink palace: that article is about Mariel's family. The one who admits to the substance abuse is the sister Margaux. Mariel, in her own words, always played the good sister and always made the healthy choice trying to run away from her crazy or cursed family. Not the right guess, I think.

  41. Def not Melanie Griffith to whomever guessed that. I just heard an interview on NPR w/ her, her mom, and daughter talking about how Tippi was harassed by Alfred Hitchcock. They asked Melanie if she ever endured similar abuse during her career and she said no...that she learned from her mother's experience how to respect herself enough to say no and leave the situation and that she's taught her daughter the same.

  47. Bridget Fonda's was 18 during her first movie , she has no other credits as a teenager. The Arquette family is Hollywood Royalty. Patricia doesn't fit for the same reason , but her first movie was NIGHTMARE on Elm Street 3. It is probably the Hemmingway's however Mariel is not a drinker (that we know of). Jamie Lee Curtis was 19 when Halloween was filmed and only has TV credits before that.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I think Mackenzie Phillips fits , except I wouldn’t call their family royalty. Obvious drug and alcohol abuse , she currently is a drug rehab counselor. The way the blind reads is that a close family member would obviously be her father John Phillips **shudder**.
Her first movie would have been Go Ask Alice , ugh I remember the book. Second movie American Graffiti.
“Looking back, she realizes how messed up that sounds, but an older family member she looked up to had been doing the same thing…”

  51. +1 for Patricia Arquette
First film: Nightmare on Elm Street
    Second: Pretty Smart

    ReplyDelete
  52. Patricia Arquette would be a great guess, but she got her start at 19.

I'd add Martha Plimpton to the list. She's actually Keith Carradine's daughter, and the Carradines are also a well established acting dynasty. She had a small part at 11, then started to act regularly around 13.

  53. Can't be JLC "Everyone knows a little something about her drug and alcohol problems. They don't know it all. They assume it is a family thing, genetic perhaps. " If JLC had drug and alcohol problems she kept them too quiet to fit this everyone knows about it blind. Hemingway does make more sense since it's a famous name everyone knows but I'm not sure everyone knows her. Death and destruction is a pretty heavy clue that no one seems to fit so far.

I don't understand these blinds. They say quite often that the victim was raped multiple times by the same person. Let's say we go with the person being young and too intimidated or worried about their career to speak out, but why allow yourself to be alone with them? On a crowded set wouldn't you ensure that never happened?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Tatum O'Neal was my 1st guess. If she went to her father, I wouldn't put it past him to say that to her.

    ReplyDelete
  55. What about Tatum O'Neal?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Mariel Hemingway's second film, aa in second where she was for all intents and purposes the star, could be "Personal Best". Perp could be Scott Glenn or Kenny Moore.

Film written and directed by Robert Towne, btw

    ReplyDelete
  57. In the salon article linked above, Mariel had already made "Manhattan" when she was asking whether she would have her own room in Paris with Woody Allen. Of course the memoir might be inaccurate and hiding the rapes during the filming, but if it's more or less true, it doesn't make sense (to me) that he had already raped her repeatedly.

And I agree that we need to pin down which movie was Mariel's second.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Tatum O'neal definitely

    ReplyDelete
  59. I almost said Tatum O’Neal, but her only famous/infamous elder was her father. Her mother Joanna Moore, was older than Ryan - and although an actress - she never held the fame he did. She was a horrible alcoholic that had a very fractured relationship with her daughter and she was from Podunk, Georgia also known as BFE...

She started very young and was very sexually active by the time she starred in Little Darlings w/Kristy McNichol. I am also surprised that she is still alive, w/all the drugs she has put into her body.

Her first movie was Paper Moon, while her second was Bad News Bears. She was the only female lead. JLC is a much better fit.

As far as JLC goes, look back to 84ish, she definitely had drug issues and went to Rehab. She has been very open about it as well, and her relapses.

Here is one story from the Daily Mail, where she talks about being so addicted, that she stole her sister’s pain pills.

  60. Perhaps Mariel escaped the demons that plagued others in her family. Perhaps not. (And I really hope she did escape those demons). However, oftentimes victims of abuse and/or adult children of alcoholics create a backstory that may leave out details that are hurtful or embarrassing. I’m not saying this is what happened here. Just making an observation based on personal experience.

Firt movie at age 11: The Rollover

Second Movie at age 14: The River Rat (w/ Tommy Lee Lones and Brian Dennehy)

    And she was in Goonies...

Which was her third movie (and might that be a purposeful/deliberate misdirection by Enty?)

  65. The sick thing about this blind is that it should be obvious because it should be such an unusual thing.....yet look how many actresses 'almost' fit perfectly....

    ReplyDelete
  66. I have to agree with everyone who guessed Patricia Arquette. The "given her the most nightmares." line is so specific to those Nightmare on Elm Street movies. If it weren't her, that line would say something else, something that makes more sense.

Sadly that would make the older family member Rosanna, which is a bummer.

I'm not sure about the rapist as far as her second movie goes. Pretty Smart or Daddy. Dennis Cole? Dermot Mulroney? Those movies came out within a month of each other and who knows which one filmed first.

  68. Hemingway. She's struggled with alcoholism, drug abuse, mental health issues. There is an article about her "beating her family demons."

Hemingway has admitted that Allen tried to have sex with her, and her parents pushed her to do it. Hemingway said, "he attacked me like I was a linebacker."

The movie Manhattan is based on the real life relationship Allen had with (another) 17 year old girl when he was about 20 years her elder.

  70. Movie sets are swarming with people. I don't believe the rape blinds as of late for one minute. How does an actor just take an actress somewhere on a set and rape her repeatedly without a single person noticing??? So the actress just gets up, walks into the makeup trailer and no one thinks it's odd that her makeup and hair are ruined again? Not buying this.

Who was the actor? Did he do this to other victims, and has he ever been made to pay for his crimes?

  73. Mariel Hemmingway is the best fit for the old and recognized name, and the history of family suicides and substance abuse. She is not known for substance abuse herself, though. Maybe she had a secret life but this blind says everyone knows a little bit about her drug use.

So I'm going to throw Brooke Shileds out there, too, for consideration. While not Hollywood royalty, she does come from royal European bloodlines. Her first theatrical movie was the horror, Alice Sweet Alice. She would have been 11.

Her second theatrical movie was Pretty Baby was filmed when she was 13. It was was notorious at the time for casting her as a girl growing up in a brothel, whose virginity is auctioned off to a john. This movie also starred Keith Carradine.

Brooke Shields is at least known for prescription drug use for coping with PPD, as made famous by the spat with Tom Cruise.

I don't know if she's surrounded by death and destruction or not.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I can't decide, a few of the guesses fit. We'll have to see.

I just want her to speak up now. Speak up, put shame in this person's life. Destroy his as he destroyed yours.

  75. Also, Brooke Shields has revealed that fought off suicidal impulses.

  76. It is Mariel Hemingway.

    1) It describes her name lineage as "celebrity royalty". Typically he says things like "acting dynasty" if everyone were actors. But the Hemingways are a mixed bag - Ernest was, of course, a prolific author, making him a "celebrity".

    2) "they don't know it all. They think it is a family thing, genetic perhaps". Enty is referring to the Hemingway curse of deep depression and eventual suicide. People have talked about their propensity for suicide, and probable genetic causes, for as long as I can remember. I even wrote a paper in school around 2001 using the Hemingway family to discuss how nature (especially genetics) vs nurture contributes to depression and clusters of suicides within families. Even Mariel talks about the rash of suicides in her family as probably genetic - 5 suicides over the past 4 generations.

  77. We all know how Enty likes to muddle the blinds some times to keep us off track.

What if this is Margeux and not Mariel. First movie was Lipstick where she played a rape victim (aged 17) her next movie was Killer Fish with Lee Majors as the actor. Margeux was the one with major drug problems not Mariel, if these things happened to Margeux the substance abuse and suicide make sense.

    ReplyDelete
  78. @Emerald city No way is this Margaux, she started modelling in her late teens and made her first movie Lipstick in 1976, when she was already 22.

  79. Perhaps this is Nastasya Kinski?
If so, I would not trust her too much. Her father had problems with the psyche, and he was turned on his rape by a German soldier.
In any case, what makes these women sleep with men in exchange for roles and fame? This is called prostitution. Here, the Great Sexual Giants, of course, of the type of Weintstein, are guilty, and their parents are guilty. But if women continue to do this - then these women are guilty too.
Alas, the old remark that "actor = prostitute", is true in our time.

  81. Many here seem to mistake the curse on the Hemingway family, and the alcohol abuse that plagued it (all real) with the clear hint the blind gives: "Everyone knows a little something about her drug and alcohol problems". I don't think anybody knows about any Mariel's drug and alcohol problems, because none have been documented. ALL the articles linked on this page refer to her family, her parents, her sister's alcohol problems, never to her personally. Her problem seems to have been dealing with all of this, and perhaps her own inherited suicidal mania, but there is no mention of alcohol problems in her biography. So if she had any, anyway it doesn't fit the blind because the blind says that everyone knows about them. If the blind is to be believed, despite the royalty reference Hemingway cannot be the right guess.

    Liza Minnelli?

    ReplyDelete
  82. I think it's hard to imagine rape on a movie set because we think of a violent assault while a woman is screaming and trying to get away. That may be the case in some of them. But in many, the force involved was threats and intimidation. If a man can threaten a woman into staying quiet later, presumably he can threaten her to stay quiet while they screw behind a curtain. And with everyone screwing everyone so much of the time, even someone spotting them might not think anything was wrong. And you've got girls who stay half-zonked out of their minds to forget the stuff that's already happened to them, so maybe they aren't putting up much resistance after a while.... It's complicated.

    ReplyDelete
  83. A year ago there was a Rolling Stone article that, with just a little imagination, could make this sound like Paris Jackson. I'm struggling most with "proof" of the actual "movies": the first one wasn't really "work" since she was 5 years old and it was more of an MJ movie, but she's credited in it, and people back then would probably have guessed she and her and her brother were being raped all the time (because of MJ's reputation). She def. claims otherwise. Then at 14 she was credited similarly in a few MJ documentaries: a live one that couldn't be "it" (production was "live"), and another one "What Killed the King of Pop? - Michael Jackson - The Inside Story", but there's VERY little information about the production of that movie (even reviews).

Anyway she talked all her suicide attempts in the RS article last year, plus the drugs and bullying, and even mentions being raped at age 14. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/features/paris-jackson-michael-jacksons-daughter-speaks-out-w462501

How it lines up with Enty's BI:

"She is from celebrity royalty." Michael Jackson, KING of pop? Paris' brothers include Prince Jackson, she has "Queen of my heart" tattooed on her wrist in her dad's handwriting. I think Paris hits all the right notes for this "royalty" part of the BI.

The Drew Barrymore connection was what caught my eye: Drew played the Farrah Fawcett character in Charlie's Angels, and Farrah Fawcett died the same day as Michael Jackson. (I don't know if that's stretching it; I remember conspiracy theories about it mostly).

And finally "genetic.. perhaps." In the whole last part of Enty's first paragraph about drugs and family thing, "genetics" sticks out to me. Paris is often rolled for insisting she's black (her skin color is white, she accepts that, but she's adamant that MJ is her dad, and identifies as black, etc).

I'd guess the older family member would be like Janet or Latoya advising her that "that's how Hollywood works," and they're all a little shady when it comes to money. I watched a YT I won't link that threw shade at Paris for even getting a story, because she hasn't "accomplished" anything. It was pretty cruel. Girl and her brothers are rich; the rest probably weren't the best influences for her. But primarily I'd say this BI is Paris Jackson because that article is just a year old.
