According to my sources Britney Spears entered rehab today. I think it is Wonderland, but I also heard a mumble that sounded like Promises so I will try and confirm it for you. (Confirmed it is Promises) I am happy that she is getting the help she needs, and I really do not have anything else at this time. It is my understanding that her family did a semi-intervention and that her mother will be watching the children while Britney is in rehab.
I sent an e-mail to Larry Rudolph to get the "official" statement but he has not got back to me yet. He did get back to the suck up artists at People though, and this is the "official" statement.

FAS limitations, addictions and negative attention-seeking behavior (or acting-out as the pros put it) do seem to indicate a need for more than "Wonderland". Anon 12:43 why is it not OK to voice a negative opinion? We're grownups here and agree to disagree maturely. Others being honest is a good thing, denial and hiding is not. Most addicts bottom out when realizing the truth. Grief is a major component of that, especially when one's own actions were the catalyst for "tradegies". Quite often grief counselling models are used to start the psychiatric treatment process with at-risk persons.

It just seems like the workings of her mother Lynne and not something that Brit actually wants at this point. A failed marriage whatever other issues she has going on within her life has caused her spiral out of control.
I don't believe Brit got to be this way overnight. I think she has always been ready to rebel and explode.

She is an adult child of a self-proclaimed addict (her dad) and all the baggage that comes with that -- hence her poor choice in men and her other poor life choices. I think that her Mom was a stabilizing factor, but that everyone else around her enabled her to continue in this public display of self-destruction.
I hope that wherever she is, Brit stays in for 60-90 days and has limited contact with the outside world -- only brief visits with her children and close family (no hangers-on) and no reading the online chatter (sorry EL) or the gossip rags. She needs to clear her head space and get clean and sober and well.
BTW, I don't believe that she has FAS -- but I do believe that she features of a genetic syndrome. Considering that possibility and that she may have been "using" while she was pregnant with both boys, I think that her kids should have a complete genetic and developmental work-up.

ReplyDeleteI highly recommend going there and actually reading all the information before "diagnosing" yea or nay. Clearly this poor woman's problems far exceed addictions, related grief and remorse or paternal addictive behavior. Having features, behaviors and long term problems as she has displayed ARE indicators. Most competent physicians specializing in this area would order a full workup for her & her children simply based on her history (what is public knowledge at this point). Just imagining all that is not in the public domain about her history gives me the chills. The upside is that perhaps now she & her family can get the proper medical & psychiatric treatment. Who knows it might be just the spotlight needed to make people undertand the widespread and often undiagnosed alcohol and drug related birth disorders.

I'm all for media coverage (ANS, LiLo), but I think Brit has some serious issues and needs to be left alone. They've already hunted down her facility and TMZ reports that they have sent "a gaggle of paparazzi via helicopter, and that the doors are off the helicopters so they can get a clear shot of her on the grounds". Guess you weren't following the earlier posts about Brit.
One very astute poster noticed that Brit has cranial-facial features that are not within the norm. These differences were more easily seen due to her shaved head. By her facial differences and behavioral problems, they (and others) deduced that Brit has FAS.
I don't believe that she has FAS because she's very coordinated, and appears to have great gross and fine motor skills (when sober). I believe that she may have some genetics issue (perhaps a balanced translocation) that could be passed on to her children. Add to that, the possibility that Brit was using during her pregnancies (and perhaps post-partum nursing as well). With these possibilities, you can see where we would contend that her boys should have genetic and developmental screenings.
If the boys do have problems, they would greatly benefit from early intervention education and therapies.

Self-destructive behaviors and self-medicating with drugs and/or alcohol could be signs of being bi-polar. Being in a "panic" stage would probably make impluse-control very difficult.

Many textbooks and guides for teaching those w/ FAS/E state "many FAS children excel in physical activity" and "while many FAS show slowed development of fine and gross motor skills, teaching these skills is a matter of practice and repetition with positive encouragement". Please check w/ British Columbia Ministry of Education, Vienna Mom. Gossip is one thing but promoting ignorance about FAS is not ok.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy gossip as much as the next person, but I think it's really irresponsible to speculate about genetic and/or developmental factors that may be causing Britney's behavior. Obviously, you have the right to talk about whatever you chose, but in doing so, you're starting rumors and feeding into the tabloid fodder. This girl obviously has enough problems and doesn't need you diagnosing her. Even if you have the credentials to diagnose various disorders (actually, ESPECIALLY if you have those credentials), you should know that you cannot diagnose someone who you have not evaluated personally. (And if you have evaluated her personally, ethics prohibit you from disclosing your assessment.) Those of you who are talking about FAS should keep in mind that "abnormal" skull structure can be caused by many things, ranging from genetic to prenatal to developmental factors. Prenatal factors are not limited to alcohol consumption. For instance, the level of stress the mother endures when the child is in utero affects the infant's skull structure.

The bottom line is that the whole situation with Brit is just plain sad. She was self-medicating for some reason or reasons. She was abusing herself and allowing others to abuse her -- and by extension, her children suffered as well, without a healthy mom.
I truly, truly hope that Brit accepts the help she desperately needs and takes this opportunity to get well. I hope that the media and those who would sell info about her to the media, will let her have some peace.
I will keep Brit and her children and her other family members in my thoughts and prayers through this tough time in their lives.

And, the whole sexual assault rumor is a good example of how things get out of control on the internet. ReplyDeleteI *totally* agree with you. I've *never* liked Britney, or her music (although, I will concede that "Toxic" is a catchy tune). My sister is my adopted foster sister, and her birth mother wasn't the greatest influence either-in fact, she and Brit have alot in common (drugs, drinking, etc). Yet, no matter what Brit does wrong in public, my sister refuses to think she can do any wrong. She comes up with all of these excuses for Brit's behavior. Based on her life experiences before coming to live with my parents, combined with her chosen "idol", I'm greatly concerned. I wish I could steer her towards a more positive role model, like Kelly Clarkson-who she *does* like, but not as much as Britney.
I sincerely hope that Britney's recent actions and my influence will help my sister outgrow this "phase".

What's the deal with the "two specific incidents" requiring grief counseling (I'm sad to say that I thought either her new child has brain damage, and/or she recently miscarried ... there were rumors she was pregnant a third time before she and K-Fed separated). It would make sense that one of the instances that Ent mentioned would be that one (or both) of her children have something wrong with them that was Brit's fault. It's true, some pesky anonymice got me riled, but I had myself a heaping plate of Get a Fucking Grip and now I'm back. ;-)
I think we can all agree, when things get a bit stroppy here in the forum, what we really need is a good old fashioned SHIRTLIFTER! ("Reporting for duuuty, Commander Ent! Wooooo hoooooooo!")
