Blind Item Reveals

April 23, 2008

I feel like most of the kindness items lately have revolved around women. That is all well and good, but it is nice to hear that guys can be kind as well. This one involves an actor who would be A list by the definition that he is the star of a long running dramatic television series. Films? He's done a couple, but is really known for his television role. Age? Not old, not aging, but not in his twenties anymore either.

Our actor is married, and she should be included as well in this kindness since she is part of it. Every two weeks or so, no matter where he is, our actor stops into a local toy store. Generally a big chain, but no love from me since they make him pay retail. Our actor spends $1000 every two weeks like clockwork. When he was filming and kept going to the same store every two weeks, someone asked him why he was buying so many toys every few weeks.

Turns out our actor, stockpiles about 75% of the toys he buys all year long and at Christmas time donates them all to organizations like Toys For Tots, etc. The other 25% he sends to various children's hospitals throughout the year.

You know the best part? The guy doesn't need publicity to keep doing it.

Tom Welling

  4. Oh, I *heart* Tom Welling!! Even more now =)

  5. This post shows just how awful ENT can be at (not)dropping hints on the star involved in blinds. You could have thrown in at least one "super".

  8. I've never seen his show but he sounds wonderful (not hard to look at either). I don't think anyone guessed him; makes this even better.

  12. Hey guys I'm new here! I have to say I'm noticing not one of these reveals is Ben Affleck. But earlier today there was a blind item about a country singer who is gay and does drugs and I am so sure it's Dwight Yoakum doing drugs and Ben Affleck. Sooooooo obviously!

  13. "he's on the CW, you know?"

Hey, if Gossip Girl ranked #207 (average of 1.76 millon viewers) out of 237 shows for the season is being hail as a hit, than Tom Welling is a mega-star, and A+, Smallville as double the viewers of GG (average of 3.6 millon viewers)

Now if you mention that Viva Laughlin had more viewers that both shows (6.5 million), no wonder CW is closing it's doors.

Good for Welling, may he always find work.

  15. TW!? That is so sweet. Le Sigh!

  16. Awwww, this makes me so happy. I love the Smallville folks. So much pretty, and now some kindness too!

Re: "Cheaper by the Dozen" I just caught that again on tv a couple of months ago, and I couldn't believe the scene with TW and Jared Padalecki - next to JP, TW is a freakin' midget!

  17. Nothing is more attractive in a guy then compassion and modesty. What a sweetheart!

(and how sad is this, just got home from working 12 hours, it is 8am, i am exhausted yet want to stay awake for the reveals!)

  18. WOW. I am shocked. I guess you could say he's TV A list since Smallville was huge, but CW usually automatically puts it on B list and below for me. But eh, to each his/her own. But yes, I am shocked since Tom Welling usually has such a bitchy reputation. He has a rep for being a diva on set, snubbing PAs and random crew. It's nice to know he's not all bad. I love the kindness reveals.

  19. Screaming Mimi - even if Ben is not actually named in that blind, rest assured that he was probably the one that supplied the drugs. ;-)

  20. Aw, every actor that's worked with Tom has something nice to say about him. And now this... He really is super.

  21. My sister is going to be so happy to see this! Huge Tom Welling fan, she is.

  22. Oh, and I am just now picking up on the fact that Ent kind of gave himself an out by saying A list "by the definition that he is the star of a long running dramatic television series." So his A-listness is really a professional technicality but in reality I agree with everyone above, I wouldn't consider anyone on the CW higher than B list at best.

  23. wow. i've never seen the show, didn't even know who he was. he was born the year i graduated high school!!

good to know some of the young'uns are growin' up good!

  24. This is just awesome.

As if I wasn't a huge fan of Tom's before now...

And for the people who say he isn't an A-lister, I would agree, but it's only because he's on TV right now.

As soon as he's out of Smallville, I'm sure he'll get himself some blockbuster film roles. He's talented and drop dead gorgeous...

Who wouldn't want him in their film?

  25. That us awesome! its nice to hear about an actor who is simultaneously giving, gorgeous, monogamous and talented. Good on ya, TW!

  26. Joanna,
I know people who work on set with him and they never have anything but nice things to say about him. Thats teh first I've heard anything like that, ever.

  27. Wow, there's always someone with a petty and unfounded remark.

I think Tom is awesome. He could just ask his accountant to send checks to charity but he and his wife go through a lot of trouble to make this a personal gesture. What a man! Thanks for bringing this piece of info!

  28. Thank you so much for sharing this. It's so refreshing to see an actor like TW who prefers to keep a humble private home life, and would personally take time out of his busy schedule to do such a generous thing. I've loved his portrayal as Clark Kent in Smallville, as well as his work in the few movies he made. This only makes me admire him more and wish him continued success in whatever he endeavors in the future.

  29. Wow, I am impressed by Tom once again. I have been a big TW fan since the begining of Smallville but just knowing that he would donate toys to children without needing to showcase his charity is another reason to love this guy! Great to know that this info has gotten out so that more people can know how great Tom really is!

Good for you Tom and I hope you keep up your great work!

You referred Tom as she and he in your journal which I found very confusing. I had to read it twice. Anyways, it's thrilling to read that there are still artists who are compassionate about others and just don't talk about it. Actions speak louder than words. Thanks for this journal entry.
