Travis Barker And DJ AM In Critical Condition

Shortly before midnight, in a plane carrying six people, four were killed and Travis Barker and DJ AM were critically injured. Both are in a burn unit of of a Georgia hospital.

When the plane was attempting to takeoff, it went off the end of the runway and crashed into a nearby road.

Two of the four people killed were crew members of the Lear Jet. The remaining two were passengers, but as I write this, their identities have not been released. The plane was headed back to Los Angeles.

I have certainly given both of these guys a hard time in the past, but now is not time for snark, it is time for prayers and best wishes, for them, their families, and the families of those killed.

  1. This is so, so horrible...I can't find word on whether Gavin Degraw or Perry Farrell were with them...

So sad. My thoughts and prayers are with them all and their families, esp TBs young kids.

  3. That is horrible news. Interestingly enough not a single word of it was mentioned on Australian news sites here.

  4. Just found this on tmz.com

TMZ has just learned Perry Farrell of Jane's Addiction was not on the plane that crashed, critically injuring Travis Barker and DJ AM.

What we have not accounted for -- whether Gavin DeGraw was on the plane.

  5. The Yahoo link EL posted said neither Gavin nor Perry were on the plane, which still doesn't answer who was...

Fingers crossed and praying that they both pull through and make a good recovery, and prayers for those who didn't make it and their families...

  7. Awwwww, love and prayers to Travis and Adam and their families.

Both seem like good guys and I read that their show was really good last night.

  8. This on dlisted.com

Travis Barker and DJ AM were critically injured after a small Learjet crashed during takeoff in South Carolina. 3 men and 1 women were killed. Officials confirmed to NBC that two crew members and two passengers were killed. The names of the deceased have not been released.

Travis was taken by ambulance to a burn center in August, CA. He is listed in critical, but stable condition. DJ AM was airlifted to the same burn center. He is also listed in critical, but stable condition.

Last night, Travis and DJ AM performed with Perry Farrell and Gavin DeGraw. It's not known if Perry or Gavin were on the same flight.

A spokesperson for the FAA said the Lear 60 was bound for Van Nuys, CA before midnight on Friday with six people on it. Air-traffic controllers reported seeing sparks. They said the plane went off the runway and crashed on a nearby road.

UPDATE: Perry Farrell's manager confirmed to MTV News that Perry was not on the plane.

UPDATE II: Gavin DeGraw's publicist confirmed to People that Gavin was not on the plane. MSNBC reports that the female pilot, Sarah Lemmon, and the male co-pilot, James Bland, died in the crash

  9. Manda/dlisted said Travis was taken by ambulance to a burn center in August, CA.

Whos ever error/typo it was, it was GA [Georgia] not CA [California].

My thoughts are with all involved and their families.

  10. I was shocked by the news this morning. Yes, all our thoughts and prayers to all concerned.

  11. And it's Augusta not August [Georgia]

  12. Barker's assistant and bodyguard were killed. His bodyguard was a newlywed and his wife just had a kid.

DJ AM has burns on his face, and Barker was burned from the waste down.

    Truly, truly sad.

  14. This is horrible for everyone involved.

Prayers to all of their families.

  15. The victims are so young! It makes me think about why the hell I am such a sad-sack. What a tragedy.

  16. Heart-wrenching. If they can survive, this two young men have a long hard road ahead of them. Thoughts and prayers.

  19. This is so sad, for all the families involved. Condolences don't seem like enough. Everyone was so young. What the hell could have happened?

  20. WTF. This sucks. I hate waking up to news like this.

The engines on the lear 60 are mounted above the rear cabin, below the tail. My guess is they'll find that an engine caught fire while going down the runway, maybe sheared of or melted wing flaps, not allowing the plane to take off and instead barrel down the runway while on fire.

    Horrible.

Good luck to the guys in the hospital, condolences to the families of the four tragically killed.

  21. E! says DJ AM is burned over 50% of his body with the worst on his face. That is really bad. I can't bear to think about what he's going to go through. The fact that he was airlifted and Travis went by ambulance makes me hopeful that Travis is less badly burned. For the sake of his kids especially, I hope he has a good recovery. I can't stop thinking about these poor guys.

  22. Or the poor people in Pakistan. This is not a good day.

  23. Trogdor - you're probably right - a witness said he saw a fireball going across the road, and the co-pilot was apparently a very experienced and careful flyer.

  24. I love you guys on this site. Have you read some of the comments at TMZ? Despicable.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Brenda, I didn't read those but I saw some horrible ones at other sites. People without any empathy really scare me.

  26. Oh jesus, according to TMZ, the reason they were flying on that jet was because Chris Baker's wife was in labor and he wanted to make it back for the birth. I'm going to stop reading about this now before I get even more depressed.

  27. What really gripes my ass is the people that start that timeless (and oh so original) bitching, "you don't care about them, you don't even KNOW them"

I never understand that. Yes, you can certainly care about people you don't know.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Also, I can understand why people get angry when more attention is paid to tragedies that happen to celebrities than to ordinary people, but even if we don't "know" them, the fact that we've read about them has made them a part of our lives, however small, and it's natural to feel worse about someone you have some kind of a connection to.

  29. I didn't see this story online before I left this morning. I was at my sisters getting her new blackberry online and she read off the headline and the names. I went whoa and went to look at the screen of the PC. Now I don't know them, but I can still feel sorrow at the lost of live and the injuries. That makes me human... in a good way.

  30. loss of life... sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  31. TMZ pulled that part of the story, so hopefully it wasn't true.

  32. Unbelievable, it looks like it was Kim Kardashian's mom who started the story about Chris Baker's wife being in labor. She was so desperate to get her name in print she spread false info.

  33. I grew up with the Goldsteins as family friends- so it was strange that my father came home from work today and mentioned that DJ AM's cousin (name omitted) came into his store and told him about the accident...very surreal....

I'm glad they are both o'kay, and it really makes me sad to think of the 4 unlucky passengers.

I've always thought pretty highly of both men, but they both seem to surround themselves with shady people. (that has nothing to do with the accident, just a thought)

    ReplyDelete
  35. it speaks volumes about the pathetic lives of the people on other sites with their nasty comments. Vile people, one and all.

Hearts out to the families of the victims, and esp. Adam and Barker who have long, painful roads ahead of them.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Been watching all of this and saying a prayer for Adam and Travis (even though not a 'fan') and the families of 'the others' (NOT to be diminished because they passed in a tragedy that included more high profile individuals...)

I mourn for both the families of those who are lost, as well as for Adam and Travis who will have to face the double ordeals of dealing with their physical recoveries as well as mental.... I can only imagine that it will be hard. More than hard...

As an aside, I cannot help but mention that these are 'high profile' tragedies. Similar or worse tragedies happen hourly and daily to our military troops (and others). These are frequently NOT publicized by the media. But their families and friends, and their selves, need your thoughts and prayers as much as the these other fine people do...

Everyone on this Board - thank you - your comments are comforting to read...very unlike some of those I've seen on other boards.

    Trash...in some low places...

  37. BTW, Ent....
Thank you for opening up dialogue on this today. I was wondering if I would find any decent comments about the tragedy and thought I'd just check in here (even though I know you are 'off' on weekends). And, lo and behold, you did it... Thank you from all of us...(I'm being forward here, but....)

  38. Update:

The medical director of the burn hospital where former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and DJ AM are being treated says both men are expected to make full recoveries.

(For burns, "full recovery" means they will regain full mobility of their bodies, not that there won't be scarring.)

Dr. Fred Mullins said Sunday morning that both men are being treated for second- and third-degree burns at a Georgia hospital. Mullins says recovery from such burns can take as long as a year but notes the men had no other injuries.

Mullins says Barker was burned on his torso and DJ AM, whose real name is Adam Goldstein, was burned on his hands and part of his head. The doctor says both men are still in critical but stable condition.

Also, a witness said that after AM got his own shirt off, he helped Travis get his burning clothes off, then they both went back to the plane to see if they could help the others. They were both stand-up guys when it was most important.

  40. Don't know what rock I was under this weekend, but just heard about this terrible event this morning. Thoughts and prayers go out tot he families of those who were lost. Thoughts and prayers also go out to DJ AM and Travis Barker and their families. Nothing bad to say, just good thoughts and prayers. God Bless.

  41. Hi Jaxy!!! Did you hear his brother died two weeks ago in a motorcycle crash? I don't know how their parents are surviving. On the news video they looked like they were still in shock. At least they've got a grandkid to give them a reason to go on. So very, very sad. And it seems like Travis really cared a lot about him - he's going to have awful survivor's guilt on top of everything else.

  42. I didn't know much about DJ AM other than he had once been engaged to nicole richie. But this weekend I found an interview he did from earlier this year. I was impressed and thought I'd share.
