Your Turn

In Your Turn we did cheesiest 80's song that you still listen to anyway. We also did the first concert you ever saw. But, now comes something even better. Your all-time favorite song. And when I say it is your all-time favorite, it means that no matter what you are doing, when you hear that song on the radio, you are going to listen to the entire thing. Late for an appointment, kids are screaming, and it just doesn't matter. It is your song and not going anywhere until it is over.

  27. Mooshki - how do I put a song on permanent repeat? I didn't know about this feature.

Managed to tear myself away from Lucky Man and am now listening to other choices nominated here. Bopping to Everlong by the Foo Fighters. I may as well give in to the dark force and say 'fuck it' to the rest of the work day...

  33. Oh, man, this is too hard. But the first song that popped into my head is "So Alive" by Love and Rockets. Don't hear it very often, so when I do, have to stop and listen. And pretend I'm still in college!

  54. Sort of OT, but another freebie that you might like is Pandora.com
aka "radio from the Music Genome Project".
They say give them an hour and it'll be like they're in your head. There are a few quirks, but for the most part it makes perfect background music.
Right now, I'm listening to a version of "Sway" I've never heard... by Ben E. King from the album "Spanish Harlem/Don't Play That Song". (and chair dancing because I'm at work)

    ReplyDelete
  55. OK. For now, I pick "Barracuda", by Heart. Because I just read their open "Cease And Desist, You Old Fart" - letter to John McCain, and I want you all to go buy the song.

  65. "I Can't Fight this Feeling Anymore" by REO Speedwagon!!! I remember that was the song that I had my first dance to in junior high (Stonewall Jackson Junior High School, Orlando Florida) with this boy named Aden. I remember that he was wearing a surfer shirt from Ron Jon's surf shop and his hands were sweaty.
When my family and I went to see Horton Hears a Who and that song came on-oh my-you should have seen all the grown ups singing that song on the way out of the theater.
    Love it!

"1979" by Smashing Pumpkins is my official favorite, though "Badfish" by Sublime ranks high for me, as does "URAQT" by M.I.A., "Work That" by Mary J Blige, "Lie In Our Graves" by DMB, and "Can't Stop" by Red Hot Chili Peppers.

I also LOVE Ramble On - LZeppelin, As - Stevie Wonder, I like Astrid Giberto's version of Fly Me to the Moon (it's a touch faster than Sinatra's), really any of the greats from the 60s and early 70s. Anything by STP and Soundgarten. For just about any of those, I would stop what I was doing and listen 'til the end.

  91. both "blue moon" by the marcels, or any version, and "hooked on a feeling", either by b.j. thomas OR blue suede, will have me singing and dancing in the grocery store, embarrassing my children and onlookers.

of course, when you run a "fan club" for many years, you're out of touch with current music. i have a new fave from buffett's "take the weather with you": "breathe in, breathe out, move on"

"if a hurricane doesn't leave you dead, it will make you strong,
don't try to explain it, just bow your head, breathe in, breath out, move on"

i've been trying to make that my motto this year.

i also have to add mr. bunny's and my song,
    "you're my inspiration" by chicago.
    yeah, i'm old, bite me!

    I *love* this song.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I didn't talk to him. He was just standing next to me. He was just running errands like me. Here in LA I try to not approach celebrities doing everyday things. :)

For example, Tuesday night I was representing my alma mater at a college fair and the crazy neighbor/dad from Desperate Housewives came up to me (with his HS-age son) and was asking me questions. It was so difficult to just pretend that I didn't know who he was!

    ReplyDelete
  99. "Ain't No Sunshine," by Bill Withers. It's so sexy. I love it. It always soothes me. It's a perfect road trip song -- it's singalongable and only about three minutes long.

Or..."Just Like Heaven," by The Cure. That MIGHT be my all-time favorite song, which basically means that it's been my favorite song since junior high. Which might be kinda lame, but I don't care.

It's impossible to pick one favorite song, dammit. There are so many good tunes in this post, though! I love being reminded of The Verve and Cibo Matto. And "In Your Eyes" is still beautiful. I love it. I don't think it's dated.

    ReplyDelete
  100. I wanna be adored, Stone Roses

    ReplyDelete
  101. "Parabola" by TOOL.

All time favorite song - Suspicious Minds by Elvis Presley.

  117. can't...pick...just...one GRRRRR

I have to employ revolving top-ten lists for my various media favorites. Typically about 6 or 7 spots are permanently taken and the other 3 or 4 are occupied by lustful dalliances that may or may not become permanent. Do feel free to use my strategy if it helps y’all cope with media pleasure overload. ;)

    HAVING SAID THAT:

    Sailing by Christopher Cross [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gi88a4YGc3g]

(with Celebration by Kool and the Gang [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YwEMxYggoKQ] and Black Coffee in Bed by Squeeze [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=610nUOJWxGc] as honorable mentions). Something about being a bitty wee one and loving to dance just by spinning in circles endlessly, with a little help from K-Tel.

I realize what I have just admitted to in a public forum, and I feel no shame.

Ummm, except I forgot this one for a minute: the SNL performance of Here Comes the Sun by George Harrison and Paul Simon [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAOclgppEXc]. Forgetting that IS shameful!

    (p.s. ms., I think I love you!)

... and NO... I DON'T and WILL NEVER "recognize" Her *FAKE/FONY/FRAUDULENT/BLACKMAILING SKUM-jack "husband's" PUTRID "name"*... NEVER.

  143. Man, this was really tough, took me all weekend to decide (ironically enty's question coincides with my making some CDs of my favorite songs-at least my favorite country songs)-I'm still

"Classic" Country: there are COUNTLESS, but I listed only 2):
    Redneck Girl-Bellamy Brothers

Seven Spanish Angels-Willie Nelson & Ray Charles

Newer Country: (ironically, 1st 2 are remakes of old songs)
Life in a Northern Town-Sugarland, Little Big Town & Jake Owens

    Lucille-Billy Currington's remake

    Whiskey Girl-Toby Keith

    Non-Country:
Wish You Were Here-Pink Floyd (Marty Casey's version was damn good too)

  148. I have to add:
    Smooth Criminal by Michael Jackson

worst part is that he made this song when he was already in his "freak transformation", but still a great song.

  150. I know I'm late to the party. Haven't had time to come on much.

Look Up to the Sky by The Indians. It played during the credit roll at the end of Kalifornia.

Love the variety here - Cowsills, Stone Roses, Jay Ferguson. Sounds like my iPod! Miss You by the Stones makes me 16 again. At least in my head.
