Playboy Has Jumped The Shark

I think I have spent time in the past discussing where the adult magazines go in the order of appropriateness. But as a refresher, the order goes Playboy, Penthouse, Hustler. The further to the right you move on the list, the freakier it gets and the less likely you will ever admit to another soul that you are even familiar with the titles. Over the past few years, I have noticed that Playboy has been shifting and shifting to the right. Apparently someone told Christine Hefner or someone over at Playboy that the people everyone wants to see naked are the rejects from Flavor of Love or Rock of Love, or No Love Without A Glove - The Paris Hilton Story. First you had the twins who are the new "girlfriends" on The Girls Next Door. Oh, and by the way, I have never seen twin strippers living next door to any of the places I have ever lived so that is kind of false advertising.

Now comes confirmation that Playboy is actually paying Aubrey O'Day $500,000 to strip naked and they are going to put her on the cover. I think I had mentioned before they had made an offer and it was in the low six figures. First of all I can't believe she said no to that, and second of all that Playboy raised it to $500,000. If I want to see Aubrey naked I can look at any red carpet photo of her or just wait for a sex tape to be released. Oh, you know there are some out there, or will be out there. $500K? Do you realize with that kind of money we will have to put up with her for at least another two years or so.

Playboy used to be an adult magazine that you could at least leave laying out in your house. Now it is just as skanky as Aubrey O'Day. The magazine that brought you Marilyn Monroe now brings you Aubrey O'Day. Nice.

  1. Maybe this is one of the reasons Christie Hefner has stepped down as CEO (or whatever her title was); she's no longer running day-to-day operations from what I read. I believe Christie is classy. Aubrey O'Day wouldn't know classy if it smacked her across the face several hundred times.

  2. This is the Beginning of the End.

    Who's next? Samantha Ronson?!?

    Ewwwwww.....(to both of them)

  3. Their business has been doing poorly lately. Every time I look at a playboy model I think: fake tits, fake tan, anorexic, hair extensions, air brushed nose and cellulite. I wish they would find naturally beautiful women with personality, like they used to, and not these surgically engineered bimbos.

  4. You can't institute a no-reality-show policy when you are on one yourself.
I do agree that the "girl next door" element is gone forever.

  6. After the twins, this doesn't surprise me a bit. Ya think Hef is beginning to suffer from dementia?

  7. He must be, Mooshki. This is his life's legacy and he doesn't give a damn?

  8. Who's next - Paris? They need to call it a day before Hef is only remembered for this sleeze instead of what he built.

  9. they just need a name. mag sells are way down.

you can tell what hef really thinks about women due to the fact that he would not allow his daughter to be an heir to the empire.

she was the one to save it from financial disaster before. looks like his teen sons won't have much of an inheritance. hee hee...

Its amazing to me that he would do this, RIGHT after saying he wouldn't let any sort of "celebrity" on the cover. Senile, indeed.

  11. Actually, Playboy sales aren't down by much. Barely out of the top 100, and that's including blockbusters like People and US Weekly. And even back in the day, Marilyn wasn't considered a "lady". She was brazen, even tacky. Death and time have polished her reputation a bit.

Guess I'm a bit argumentative today.

  12. I wonder if Playboy itself announced how much she was getting or if it was the skank's "people" who released the info. I listen to Howard Stern a lot and he always has playmates on. One huge NO NO is that they can't discuss their deals/salary. One girl had and apparently got a shitload of grief from Hef.
As for this skank, I would be afraid to view any photos of her for fear of contracting a STD through the pages! She is that vile. Her parents must be proud.

  14. i agree with you pink skull - read somewhere that the paper in london that has traditional page six girls (or wait... was this in denmark? maybe i am getting senile) were very proud of how they had ousted all fake-tittied girls from the pages - all natural, baby!

  20. Playboy is a publicly traded company. There is no true heir to it like there would be with a private company.

"Subscriptions are down to 2.7 million from 3.2 million a decade ago and 6.6 million at its peak in 1972. The Publishers Information Bureau said ad pages through the September issue were 15.5 per cent lower than a year earlier. Playboy Enterprises Inc. as a whole cut 140 people (17 per cent of its workforce) this past year, and Hefner's own daughter, Christie, chief executive since 1988, recently announced she would step aside, amid growing losses."

  21. Linnea, it's Page 3 over here in the UK and they have a very strict rule of no silicone, which upset Jordan, amongst others. Shame.

  23. I thought the titled said, "Playboy Has Jumped The Skank". Which is equally as fitting.

  24. What about Cheeks? How far to the right is Cheeks? Does it even exist anymore?

  25. @ ms, thank you, i was going to make the same comments. i grew up with playboy (and the calendars) in the house from the day i was born (almost 50 years ago). there was no shame, but the pics were classier.

it was when they went to the open crotch shots that they pretty much faded away in our house. that and i think hef wrote something that pissed my dad off. he was/is, after all, very conservative, believe it or not!!

  26. Damn you Hef! And you turned me down..:( No, I kid.

Of course I made the cut.
