What Do You Think?

So, what comes first? Family or career? In a recent interview, Chris Evans who is in the Fantastic Four movies was talking about his openly gay brother Scott. In the interview he said, "I'm down with the gays. Mostly I'm hanging out with (my brother) and his gay buddies, who are f**king hilarious. They're the funniest people I know. They've invited me out to gay bars before, and I said, 'Look, guys, I've got to draw the line there.' That's where a photo will get taken, it will run in magazines, and before you know it, I'll be living down the gay rumor for the rest of my life."

This is an interesting situation. I don't understand why Chris can hang out with his brother and his friends but doesn't want to be seen in public with them. From the sound of it, Chris will only hang out with them in a house or a private location where no one knows he is hanging out with gay people. But, then he does this interview where he says he does hang out with gay people so to me I don't see the harm in going out to some clubs with his brother. Does his brother go to straight clubs with him? Is Scott worried that straight rumors will follow him for the rest of his life? That all of his gay friends will shun him because he was seen hanging out with straight people?

Even if you get spotted at a gay bar, he has given this interview and explained that he is not gay. Well actually he doesn't say that does he? He just says he doesn't want the gay rumor to follow him around forever. Do you think it makes his brother mad or do you think his brother understands that a career is more important than family? Is it a big deal even that he is not going to gay clubs with his brother? I just think that it is an interesting decision. In my opinion I would go to the club with my brother and his friends, but then again my career is not based on public perception and I have always been a big family supporter. Of course I have to say that considering I get free rent and food from my family. What do you think?

  1. The dude is hot .. maybe not politically correct or the brightest bulb in the chandelier .. but he is HOT!

  2. Yeah, he's hot. And I can understand what he's trying to say even if he didn't do the best job of explaining it.

  3. I think he is being smart and realizes that if he wants to become a sex symbol to the minivan majority, then he needs to be careful of his image. I mean, it's not like there is anyone who would judge him after seeing him wasted at a gay bar. Right Jakey?

  4. Dude, he's hot. He can say almost anything he wants! /superficiality

I think I get what he means but what is he up to anyway? I hear his name and think of the smug DJ we have over here. He needs to get a wriggle on and do something big.

By the look at that pic he already looks gay to me LOL.

    What an idiot.

If he was comfortable with his himself why does he need to explain what his preference is.

  6. Would it be un-pc for me to say that if he went into a gay bar he'd probably be ravished within 5 minutes? :)

Eh, I can see both sides. It must be annoying (for anyone besides Jen Aniston) to have the press only interested in one story about you, but then, does he really have anything else going for him aside from his looks? Go to the gay bar, and get people talking, dude!

  7. this may be one of those things that comes across poorly on paper but was said in a joking manner. sarcasm doesn't always translate.

but..slow day for gossip and he's yummy to look at.

  8. I am on the fence here, with the media and hollywood the way it is, I can totally see his career being harmed by the gay rumor. Then again if he were a woman lets say Madonna and went into a Lesbian bar, this would be deemed HOT! Go figure

  9. Only if I could have the video, Mooshki ;)

  10. I can see that there are words under that picture but they are all a blur. He can talk?

  11. I love you Enty but you need to put down the fine tooth comb on this.

He seems very cool with gays and i dont think he needs to dance shirtless to Kylie Minogue till 7am to prove it.

its funny most straights are more offended by this stuff than most gays i know. i'm sure his brother gets it. you can be forward thinking and not have to go to gay clubs to be uncomfortable to show your support. IMO i give him a pass.

  12. I think he's the gay one and his brother is covering up for him. Eh who cares I don't even know who this guy is.

This is pretty common for any straight male friend of gays. I think most gays understand the "threat of being thought gay".

Mooshki's right, though. Chris would be swarmed in a gay bar.

If my brother was Chris or even looked like Chris... ain't no way he's coming to the bars with me. I have enough competition from the everyday folk no need to bring my own cock blocker.

  15. Hopefully he knows that his statement will open the door for him to hang out with his friends. Now, people will shrug and know he's just their with friends. Smart PR move?

  16. Hah, good point, Vis! I just googled Scott, and he's cute, but not a pretty boy like Chris.

  17. You guys keep talking as if there was an interview or something. I am still staring at the picture.

Not that it's much use to Harriet (hehe), that's the original interview. I just have to move to the US to make him my slave. Should be easy enough (!)

  20. "I'm down with the gays."
(eyes roll into the back of my head)

I haven't seen enough of him with his clothes on to know whether or not he can act, but I think his publicist might be a bit delusional.

There's no question he's cute and well-built and is being sold as a big hunk of beefcake to gay men, straight women and teenaged girls. Go with it, I say. Any number of actors we love started out as vacant eye-candy, and who's to say Chris won't be next?

As for gay bars and clubs, here's the reality: yes, he will be photographed and yes, he will be thought to be gay. But this will happen whether or not he goes with his brother to a gay club--in fact, it's happening now.

In fact, if he was photographed in a gay club with his brother and friends, most people would assume he was straight--because no closeted gay actor is going to let himself be found in a gay club with anyone, period.

He should relax, go where he wants to go, do what he wants to do. Going to a gay club is not going to prevent him from playing Hamlet, though it may eventually help him with his Lady Bracknell.

  21. I'm sorry, but has he always been that hot? He sounds like a bit of an ass, but very pretty to look at.

  22. OMG, I'm at work and shouldn't be laughing this loud!

If he was so damn worried about it why even bring it up? I used to hang out at Gay bars and I didn't give a crap what people thought.

Oh ya, but I'm not famous though am I?

  23. Enty,
Slight correction, early in the interview he does in fact say he is not gay.
    That is all.

  27. actually, he doesn't mind hanging with them, just not going to a gay bar.

I totally get why he hesitates to hang out at gay bars before he is more secure in his career. Ted C probably already has a nickname for him if he does.

It doesn't have to do with any view on gays, it has to do with his views on tabloids and gossip. That's some smart beefcake there.

  29. Shit I've been hearing for years that he IS gay, and he and Biel were mutual beards when they allegedly dated for 3 years and were never once seen together in public.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Still haven't read a word of this entry. Can't stop staring at picture.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Well, I can understand what he's saying, if only because I would hate having to answer questions about my personal time. He shouldn't HAVE to explain that he's not gay (but his brother is), but he knows that he'll have to deal with that. It WOULD be annoying -- even if you're totally nonchalant about other people's sexuality, which it honestly sounds as if this guy is.

It stands to reason that his brother would rather chill with other gay dudes at a gay-oriented bar, rather than sip on PBR at a dank hole somewhere with a bunch of homophobic troglodytes who might bully him just to be all ~mannish~ or whatever.

Bottom line: it's nobody's business. But good grief, I'd hit it!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Pfft, yeah it's pretty eye-rolling, but I'll ignore the dumb and look at the pretty. I pretty much agree with what's already been said. I just find it funny that more actors don't take advantage of teasing the gay community. I know plenty of women who would jump all over anything guy-on-guy and wouldn't bat an eyelash as well, but that's my social bubble and not the tabloids. Really though, it always seems like it would be easier to not care. If you're a young actor you're going to get the "gay rumor" no matter what. Might as well take advantage of it in my book.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yeah yeah dude!! Keep your brothers and buddies in a kind of closet then try and tell me how cool you are for hanging out with them there. Dickhead.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Like Ace Tomato said: It's not about him being politically incorrect or a dickhead. It's about the Pap & Tabloid frenzy it would create and the inevitable "fauxmances" setup by his publicists that will follow. He's smart to say what he did because now he's opened a door so that he CAN go them with them in the future without all the bullshit to follow.

He's not dissing on his brother by not going with them to gay clubs anyways. Please. Those bitches would scratch and claw Chris' brother's/friends' eyes out just to get to him. (Fuck, I know I would)

    Mmmm Hmmm.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Bollocks, frankly. He's not treating these gay people he loves like he would treat anyone else he loves...don't piss in my pocket and tell me it's raining. Double standard, pure and simple.

  36. My sister is single, but I am not. We are close and we hang together a lot. She goes to clubs and bars and I do not. You are sending a message when you go to clubs and bars, and Chris Evans is being careful not to send that message. How many people are going to read the article and remember it when he stumbled drunk out of a gay bar hanging on to two of his brothers' pals? None.

Having spent quite a few years in gay bars, anyone should be WELL AWARE of why an actor would not want to get caught in the middle of it. Give me a break.
