Today's Blind Items

What A-list actress, always movies, may be finding it harder these days to afford her much admired clothes and style as her career has stalled? She took not one, not two, but TEN irreplaceable 1950s vintage couture dresses from the set of her last film. The LA rental house who supplied the dresses was of course paid replacement value and damages by the embarrassed production, but next time you read about this actress on the red carpet in "an amazing vintage couture gown she chose herself", feel free to point and laugh.

  1. ALL THREE OF THOSE WOMEN HAVE PLENTY OF MONEY...
BUT HOW DOES THE PRODUCTION HANDLE THIS ? DO THEY SAY THE DRESSES WERE A GIFT ?
AND HOW COULD ANYONE HAVE THE BALLS TO WEAR ONE OF THESE TO AN EVENT ?

  2. Renee Zellweger or Hillary Swank. Both have costumey movies coming out: "My One and Only" for the former and "Amelia" for the latter.

  3. Sounds like Zellweger to me! Seems like she's either wearing Carolina Herrera or vintage.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I'm on the Kidman train. I think I read that her career has stalled because she no longer has any facial expression capabilities.

    ReplyDelete
  5. hil swank. her career is flat. renee has plenty of 'bridget jones' money.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I will go with Kidman, also. She is known for her clothes.

I dont think it is Renee Z. I feel like even if she didnt have the money, Carolina Herrara would dress her anyway.

Halle Berry? Kirsten Dunst? Kate Beckinsale? Keira Knightly? Just throwing out some actresses that Enty might consider A-list that havent done too much in awhile....

  8. Going in a different direction what about Kate Winslet? Revolutionary Road was set in that period and seems to have been noted for it's fashion.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Swank started out on TV (90210).

    ReplyDelete
  10. Who did a movie set in the 50's? Since the dresses were from the set of her last film? That should give it away.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I just saw Renee in an interview commenting about how much she loved the vintage wardrobe in her new film and how well it fit her.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Swank has Amelia coming out (going for her third Oscar).
Based upon the trailer I saw, I wouldn't keep the clothes styled after Amelia Earhart, no matter how vintage. ;)
Zellweger's a strong maybe to me. Doesn't seem like she's ever commanded the huge salaries, though she certainly could have bought these rather than taken.

  13. Enty, can't the vintage company sue her if they see her out in public wearing a stolen dress?

    ReplyDelete
  14. I beleive that Nicole Kidman started out as a child star in Australia.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Kidman- didn't she just finish Nine and wasn't her character from the early 60's?

    ReplyDelete
  16. aren't they making a natalie wood movie?
    whos playing natalie wood?

    ReplyDelete
  17. I think this is Winslet (Revolutionary Road) or someone from Nine.

    ReplyDelete
  18. kate winslet or nicole kidman?they were in vintage chlothes in their last movies
Zellwegger is always in Herrera in red carpet and Roberts loves Armani .

    ReplyDelete
  19. i hate to say kate w. (love her!), so i'm going w/ julia r. b/c she bugs me.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Kate Winslet started on British tv as a young girl...not her.

    Sour-faced Renee for the win.

  22. i've always read stories about how incredibly generous renee z. is. i am not pegging her for this one.

  23. Hi all, I've been reading these blind items, and let me tell you I'M HOOKED!!
    Okay...
    Sarah Jessica?
There were a ton of fashionable dresses on the SATC movie.
But then again it stemmed from TV..
    Nevermind.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Not Swank - Amelia is 30s not 50s.

Not Winslet - RR was 50s but the wardrobe was hardly couture.

    Either Kidman or RZ.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Jim, you took all the points I was going to make RIGHT out of my mouth and condensed them. Nicely said.

    Kidman or RZ FTW.

    ReplyDelete
  26. What about Reese Witherspoon?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Dont forget- it has to be someone whose career has stalled.
    Could it be Uma?

    ReplyDelete
  28. A little off topic but don't you love the use of the word "vintage"? If you or I were these clothes, they'd be called "used". :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. LOL...Cheri. That is so true.

I am going for Kidman or RZ.

    ReplyDelete
  30. mngddess, I don't think they'd technically be classified as stolen [anymore], per se, if the production company paid replacement value and damages to the rental company on behalf of the sticky fingers actress.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Kidman. She almost always wears vintage & now she is doing the unmentionable, television. She's to appear on Project Runway 2mrw night, something she would never have forecasted.

    ReplyDelete
  32. This is def Renee Z. Her movie that just premiered is set in the 50s with a vintage wardrobe to match.

BTW..."Vintage" when it's pretty and 20 yr +, "used" for ugly clothes!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Don't have a guess, but on the heels of her recent wins, I hardly think Winslet's career has stalled at all.

She can cherry pick scripts for the next few years, I believe.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Who else beyond RZ and NK?! They have $$$$ and RZ, bad roots be damned, is known to be respectful and honorable.

Does Demi have a period film coming out? She screams ENTITLED.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Let us not forget the A list part, or career is stalled- And wouldn't Enty have mentioned Award winning? As most of the guesses have Oscars, I would say no to most of them because of that.

Kate Winslet deff A-list, just won an oscar last year didn't she? Deff not stalled career..

Renee Z- Deff A list, but she has another Bridget Jones she is gonna be on soon, so that doesn't count as stalled me thinks.

Nicole K- I think she gets plenty of clothes for free, questionable as to if she is still A list, more like B+ if you ask me..

Hillary Swank- Eh on the Alist, Career is deff stalled if you ask me, don't see or hear much of her.

Julia Roberts- Forever A List, not sure if she has anything in the works, but she doesn't seem like the type, she's more homey then fashion.

Keira Knightley- Not sure about A list, though she has had franchises and some award winning/nominated movies.. deff Fashionable and haven't heard much from her, but last Spring I heard she was taking a year or two off to enjoy the spoils of her hard work?

Kirstin Dunst- NOT A List, not much of a career to begin with for it to have stalled, deff not fashionable.

Halle Berry- I just don't see her doing this.. Deff A List, career not stalled as far as I can see, wasn't she JUST working on a movie?

I would think of women who aren't award winners personally..

    ReplyDelete
  36. Could it be Natalie Portman? She was a front-runner in a BI a while ago that compared her clothes-stealing with Lohan's.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Zellweger for the win.

    1. She loves vintage

    2. In "My One and Only" she has nothing but fabulous vintage 50's era dresses (no other actress on the A-list has access to that kind of on-set wardrobe at the moment).

    3. She vowed to NEVER do a third Bridget Jones. She hates the weight gains. She's only now just signed up for BJ3 cause she needs the paycheck. That's the only role where she can command a high salary. All her other film roles have been duds that don't pay particularly well cause she can't open anything outside of Bridget.

    4. Bridget is the only role that pays her well. She can't command high salaries for anything else cause she's never been a box office draw. I can see her being in financial straits.

    Reasons it's NOT:

Nicole Kidman - worth around $150 million. Career may have stalled but she's still worth a fortune and could never work another day in her life and still be set. Keith's got a ton of dough too. And regardless of how she may not find movie roles, she's tall, thin and every designer wants to dress her still. 100% not her. And she rarely wears vintage. She wears the newest couture off the runways.

Hilary Swank - Amelia Earhart has a terrible wardrobe. And she's been dating a wealthy agent for a long time. No money worries. Not her.

Renee makes 100 percent sense. Access to the clothes, love of vintage, taking desperation roles for $$, stalled career (she would NEVER do Bridget again unless really desperate). Etc etc etc.

    It's her.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Her career hasn't really halted but I think the movie was once.
Catherine Zeta Jones in movie Dali.

How about Charlize Theron? A list b/c of the Oscar win, but what's she doing now??

    ReplyDelete
  40. To Robyn and Beth - Great assessments but I am still hoping its not RZ. Thus, I vote for Ardleigh's pick CZJ.

    ReplyDelete
  41. RZ is in the random photos, so I choose her as the thief. I don't care if the production co. paid for it; if it wasn't given to her...then she stole it. PERIOD.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Anonymous5:28 PM

Was J.Ho ever considered A list?? Don't know if being a Fly Girl really counts as tv...

    ReplyDelete
  43. Wynona Ryder. Absolutely.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Hi, here is a curve ball, what about Jessica or Drew from the Grey Gardens production? lots of vintage there.

    Greg xoxo

    ReplyDelete
  45. Keira Knightley seems to do so many of those period pieces, only does movies, A-list for sure and hasn't really been too impressive with her latest roles. Can you say boring? I'm going with Knightley.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Don't all these stars get clothes for free?

    ReplyDelete
  47. My thoughts exactly, sbenton. She's come up short when she's gone for the Oscar-bait roles lately, she's looking gaunt and not quite the sex symbol she used to me, and she has a built-in sense of entitlement.

    ReplyDelete
  48. How about Penelope Cruz? Notably dressed in vintage Balmain at the Oscars (i.e., seen on the red carpet in a dress she famously "chose for herself"), I believe her latest movie, Nine, incorporates a vintage wardrobe. And "always movies" and A- ranking may reasonably apply to her.

    ReplyDelete
  49. After the horrid events where Resse Witherspoon was in a dress that tramp Dunst wore 3 months earlier, I would say she gets a by for the rest of her life.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Rachel McAdams came to mind immediately.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Zellweger. 'Nuff said.

I'm with whoever said it first.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Crap it does look like it is Renee Z.

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1185431/

I doubt she is short on money... she is probably just too cheap to pay for the vintage dresses. I suspect she lifted truly amazing couture dresses from the 50's era... and now everyone knows it.

    ReplyDelete
  53. To rene
Re: Rachel McAdams came to mind immediately.

Is she just perpetually on your mind for negative blinds, because there is no way she would ever come up if you read the blind.

she had 1 movie in 2008
    3 in 2009
1 already post production 2010 and another in the works.
    hardly qualifies
on her way up; not down
    lets not bring her down

    ReplyDelete
  54. What about Sienna whatsher name - the one that used to date Jude Law and "stole Balthzar Getty" ?
    Aha Miller !
    Go memory go !

    ReplyDelete
  55. Wino Ryder. I thought of her immediately
    1. A List-just for name recognition alone and she's hasn't done a movie in ages (she's the def. of "career stalled")

    2. Famous for her indie/vintage look

    3. A known thief

    ReplyDelete
  56. Yeah....... no.
I'm still going with Zellweger. Most definitely.

She was riding high and is still A list, but everything she's done in recent years was pretty much a stinker and the One and Only doesn't look all that great either, except or the wardrobe. Case in point.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Zellweger http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1185431/

    ReplyDelete
  58. I like the RZ guess but it doesn't seem her career is stalled. The subject must fit ALL the clues, and RZ doesn't. Neither does NK or HB.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I don't know if she's been in any 50's period pieces lately, but what about Rachel Weisz? Isn't she supposed to take everything from hotel rooms and use the stuff as gifts for various people?

    ReplyDelete
  60. Don't A-listers have clauses in their contracts that allow them to keep any wardrobe items after shooting has wrapped? Sounds like someone is losing their juice...

    ReplyDelete
  61. Breaks my heart to say this, but I think it is Rachel Weisz.

    ReplyDelete
  62. reese witherspoon

she hasnt had a movie out in ages and...im just guessing her...Didn't she have a problem with a 'vintage couture dress' when she won the golden globe for 'walk the line'....vague recollections...but...yeah i think its Reese...
why would RZ wanna get 10 new dresses when she is supposed to get fat for the Bridget Jones's movie?

    ReplyDelete
  63. RZ. photo down below. a-list but definitely career stalled - other than bridget jones, she has nothing except for 2 movies in post. the one just released, "my one and only" set in the 1950s.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Didn't Drew Barrymore just do Grey Gardens? I remember seeing a few pics of her in vintage that she was supposed to have chosen herself.

    Just a thought.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Just read RZ's interview on CNN.com. This item has to be her. When asked about the clothing from the era, she answered: "I loved it. I loved it. I had such a great time with it, and I brought a lot of my own things, actually. Things that have been given to me, things that I just would find while I'm traveling on the road but have no opportunity to wear. You know, junk store finds that I think are spectacular. We brought them in, spruced them up and made them costumes. It was really exciting; it was fun."
