Leona Lewis Punched At Book Signing

In London today, Leona Lewis was signing copies of her autobiography Dreams. Why Leona has a biography at all at this age can be discussed at another time. After she had been signing for about 90 minutes a man came up to her, handed her his book to sign and she did. When she looked up to hand him the book, he punched her in the face.

Leona grabbed her eye and ran away while security tackled the puncher. While security was getting him to the ground the man wouldn't stop laughing. The bookstore where Leona was signing says they take security very seriously and that this was the first time something like this had happened. I have been to lots of book signings and I am surprised nothing like this has happened before. It isn't like they have metal detectors or security guards patting you down when you go to one of these things and there are a lot of people who are unbalanced enough to do something like this.

Leona was scheduled to perform tonight on the BBC but pulled out.

  3. This could happen anywhere a celeb meets the public - a stage door or fan convention. No wonder stars have security all the time.

    Very nasty.

  4. Oh, poor Leona! It must be very traumatic to be attacked like that.

    Cyber hugs to her.

  5. Poor thing! I hope the perp got his balls smashed and his face punched very hard, repeatedly. I hear the British cops do NOT eff around.

  10. metal detectors and security guards patting you down? how would that help if someone gets close and punches you in the face?

I didn't feel bad until I saw her picture. Awful.

  13. I hear you, Stacy, that's what I did too. Reckon hell will be warm enough?

Maybe it was a disgruntled music fan who hates her warbling or it's a student still doing freshers with the prank etc? I highly doubt someone would queue a length of time just because.

She seems like a sweet young woman. Why don't the crazies save their batshit craziness for the Paris Hiltons and Jon Gosselins of the world?

I would be so traumatized that I'd *NEVER* do another book signing.

  16. yeah sorry i laughed too. anyone who thinks their own life is that important that they need to write a book about it (especially anyone in their 20s who hasnt had a particularly notable career to speak of) desreves to get taken down a peg. sure, maybe not a punch int he face - but look at that smug mug int he first picture. doesnt it just look punchable?

  18. Majik,
did you see Supernatural last week? Paris Hilton got decapitated with an axe! Awesome. Now if only life would imitate art.... ;-)

Security couldn't have stopped this type of idiot, unless nobody was allowed within arm's length - and that would ruin signings for fans, who like to have their 'moment' with the celeb. As it is, others might now insist on higher security before they'll do signings. (John Barrowman's doing a signing tour at the moment - but I think he'd punch back!)

  20. Captiva -- you obviously didn't realize that there is no chance of Wolverine or Dr. Doom getting in and punching anyone in the face in that book store. Not on their watch.

  21. Sad time when a man can punch a woman in the face and people laugh.
