Today's Blind Items - Cranky

I love the word cranky. It isn't as good as Phil Hartman saying "Sassy," on SNL but it's still a good word. Most of the time I would call this item a Jackass, but I think it is more cranky rather than anything else. Over the weekend this aging Academy Award winner/nominee actress spent some time in an antique shop. Whether she wasn't feeling well, or had too much to drink at lunch, there was something very off and as I said very cranky about her during her shopping trip.

She kept asking to see jewelry and items in various showcases and then complaining about what was wrong with all of them. She would point in the direction of an object in a showcase and if the owner didn’t instinctively take out the right item, she would “get snappy” and complain about her as well. Eventually our actress did buy something and her credit card was swiped and returned but she insisted she never received it back. She thought the store owner had kept it. She then abruptly left. A few minutes later, an assistant came back to the antique shop insisting the owner had kept the credit card and demanded its return.

There was nothing to give back and the assistant finally left in a huff.

  1. Meryl Streep

See, I can answer one of these without saying George Wendt.

  2. Sounds like Streisand to me.

  3. Barbra Streisand left the cave for the U2 concert the other night. I've read that she and hubby go to antigue shops and we all know she can be a little cranky.

  4. *jumps on streisand train*

  5. Did the woman who played Joan Crawford do this? Damn, can't remember her name. She did some horrid stuff to shopgirls when I worked in retail in Bev. Hills.

  6. This sounds like Sharon Stone bitchiness at its finest.

  7. Yeah to what califblondy said cause that's what I was gonna say.

  8. @notsoanonmom:faye dunaway?

i like Barbra Streisand guess also!

  9. Smells like Faye Dunaway to me!

  10. Yeah, Faye Dunaway. Rude beyotch central.

  11. I think Faye Dunaway fits.

  12. I think Enty would have at least mentioned Barbra's singing career and not called her simply an actress. Even though she can be a bitch from all accounts, that doesn't make her the ONLY aging bitch in Hollywood.

Since Sharon Stone is probably a Jackass and Enty goes out of his way to say that the woman was just cranky, I'm thinking it is someone who is normally NOT known for being a bitch.

I like the Meryl Streep guess for that reason. Also the Felicity Huffman guess. I think I'll go with Felicity, just because I think that Enty would call Meryl a multiple award winner/nominee.

  13. Enty says this is off behavior for her, so I doubt it's Dunaway or Streisand. They treat people horridly on a regular basis.

  14. I DON'T THINK DUNAWAY HAS AN ASSISTANT ANY LONGER...

  15. Sounds like the assistant is the jackass. You'd think they'd be sympathetic to another one of the "little people." :)

  16. Do these people really have an assistant to go "Antique-ing" on weekends with? What a shitty job that would be.

  17. Sounds like Dunaway and Streisand need to get a taste of my Bitch Hand!

I wouldn't believe it was Meryl even if I saw it. :-)

  18. But, Felicity Huffman isn't an Academy award winner, to the best I can find out. An Academy nominee, not a winner, so I'm going with the Streisand pick.

  19. As much as I adore Meryl, I think she could easily be a supreme bitch. Sadly, I'd take a lashing from her & somehow feel honored.

  20. "left in a huff"
    Felicity Huffman

  21. how about jane fonda?

  22. I can see Shirley McClaine in this scenario. Sharon Stone and Barbra Streisand are also good guesses. I want to think Felicity Huffman would be better behaved.

  23. Helen Mirren
    Judy Dench

  24. Seems to me that "get snappy" is the clue. Generally, one gets snippy.

With that in mind, I'm guessing (cue the Addams Family theme) Anjelica Huston.

  25. there's a pic of Sharon Stone in Random Photos part 1

that's my guess along with the others who said Sharon Stone but did she get even nominated for an Academy Aware????

  26. ||sigh||

academy AWARD. Typos. gotta luv 'em.

  27. Melanie Griffith.

  29. Dyan Cannon?
    Louise Fletcher?
    Brenda Vaccaro?
    Maggie Smith?
    Angela Lansbury?

I sure hope it's not Melinda Dillon!!

  30. With all due respect, I think Liz Taylor has stopped investing in antiques :D

  31. I think you guys are missing something here....

    Cranky = crank = "speed" = meth

Being hyper-picky "can" be a side-effect of methamphetamine abuse. I think this is a hint.

Or maybe she has early onset Alzheimers. Who can say?

  32. c17- you don't know many seniors do you? They are admitedly short on patience, stubborn & blatantly honest.

I also think they've earned the right ;)

    ReplyDelete
  33. mygeorgie - you don't know very many tweekers, do you?

They can be the same way. There are also elderly tweekers - those are the worst.

I know LOTS of elderly folk - I'm almost one myself. I'm just putting out there a viewpoint that I don't think y'all have thought of.

  34. C17- You got me there! People lie about the tweeking, but hard to hide the 'Cranky Grans' for sure :)

  35. Liz Taylor only shops at certain places, and there is no way she is cranky. No way. She doesn't have to be. Everything goes her way. I think this is Streisand. I don't think it is psychobitch Dunaway. She's a monster.

  36. My old Polish dad, who up until 5 years ago wouldn't swear & was pretty laid back said, "You know what I find about getting old? I fucking hate people now. I have no fucking patience for anyone" (said in a Jersey type accent)

I know a lot of crusty old curmungions & it scares me :/

  37. I'm too lazy to look, but has Lauren Bacall been nominated? I thought her only because I know she went antiquing when she was in town here a few years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  38. CZJ was my first thought. She's not necessarily known for being cranky per se - more aloof, I guess.

I don't think it's Felicity Huffman; I think there would have been a mention of her Emmy perhaps.

I like the Sharon Stone (nominated for Casino) guess. She seems more bat shit crazy than cranky usually. Also, i can totally imagine her drinking too much at lunch.

  39. I don't know- most of the actresses you all mentioned are OLD. ENT says "aging".

Faye Dunaway is in her 70's
    Streisand is 67.
Lauren Bacall is way into her 80's.

    Just saying.

    ReplyDelete
  40. LOL, mygeorgie, I'm not even old and I concur with your dad! It could be the Irish in me though. OR it could be a lot of people today are just not worth the patience.

  41. Can't be Elizabeth Taylor, she just had heart surgery and wouldn't be out and about at the weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  42. After reading all of the comments, I'm jumping on the Sharon Stone train. She is who first popped into my head...AND c17 has a point, I could totally see her being a little spun (whether that means diet pills (that's what the old folks call em) or crank)...

And, this behavior totally sound like someone who is high...thinking the store didn't give the card back is classic tweeker behavior.. :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'm with Reese, I totally thought of Shirley McClain for this one.

    ReplyDelete
  44. A little too vague to even hazard a guess!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I actually feel bad for the assistant, having been one too many times. The actress is going to be mad they didn't give the card back and send the assistant, and then give the assistant a load of blame; it'll be "you didn't try hard enough" or "you give up too easily" or "I should have expected this from you." Even if the actress doesn't have a rep for being mean, she's still going to blame the assistant.

  46. Ugh, I hate high maintenance bitches like this.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I keep re-reading this post because it's on top, and every time I hear Phil saying "Ssssssassy" in my head. Still miss him, and News Radio.

  48. Haha mygeorgie, I'm 27 and I pretty much hate people. I kinda chalk it up to growing up in the DC area, where absolutely everyone is a rude, arrogant piece of crap. Or maybe I'm just a bitch, who knows? I certainly don't have any patience for stupidity, and there is just so much of it out there! I am actually kinda scared to think of how bad I'll be when I get old!

As for this celeb, if I was that shopkeeper, I'd tell her to go f*ck herself. I have worked service jobs before, and no matter how much I needed the job or the money, I have never tolerated people treating me like garbage. If more employees refused to take people's shit, then I guarantee that more people would be forced to act right. I don't have a guess for this though, because as far as I can tell, it could be anyone in Hollywood, since the vast majority are entitled pricks.
