Adam Lambert AMA Performance

Last night Adam Lambert tried to create some controversy for himself during his performance on the American Music Awards. I think it was the first time he had performed on television like this since American Idol. Oh, well maybe some morning shows. Anyway in his performance there was simulated oral sex and making out with a guy. You know regular Madonna and Britney type stuff but this time guy on guy. See what you think.

  1. I was not entertained.

  2. I should say I'm a total Hoyay fanatic, but this was too much. If it were the VMAs, fine do what you want. But this was ABC during a time slot that usually shows Extreme Home Makeover. He was out of line. And he sounded terrible.

  3. Was Lambert lip-syncing? In the video I saw it looked like he was still singing while he was smooching the dude. Maybe it was just out of sync? He's not a guy who I think would need to lip sync.

  4. Too much for primetime tv...

  5. Way over the top but still entertaining. I've never heard him sing or watched a performance so I don't have anything to compare it to. If I had to judge him based on yesterday's performance I'd say he can't sing.

  6. Not into Lambert bashing, but I will say I didn't like the song. It was too "show tune"-ish. If he wants to do show tunes, fine, go to Broadway, but I would much rather hear him sing some hard rock. He's definitely got the voice to wail.

  7. I honestly don't see the difference between the Madonna/Britney kiss and this. I really don't. Hey, everybody's talking about it today, so apparently it worked!

  8. Yeah I don't care for the song either but again, I have a strange crush on this man. I liked the performance BECAUSE it was so campy. I think he meant for it to be too much and too gay, you know?

  9. And I agree, he got people talking about him more than they are talking about J-LO falling on her Loobatons, so good job!

  10. S & M theme / oral sex simulations, either gay or straight, do not belong on prime time network television. I would predict a backlash, except I doubt that the people who would be most offended were watching this trash.

  11. i love the guy. and really, how is this different from what madonna and britney do? is it because he's a man? a GAY man?
what's good for the goose is good for the gander, even if the gander is gay.

  12. Made it to 0:43. Pure, talentless crap that is. I don't think these newly-graduated Amercian Idol twats should be apart of the American Music Awards. Make them work for it, hone some skills, produce a legit record, THEN invite them to perform.

  13. Sounds like the choreography made it hard for him to actually concentrate on, you know, singing the words. There were a number of points in the performance where we was interrating with the dancers and it sounded like he forgot he was supposed to be singing a song.

  14. Nancer I don't think this has anything to do with him being gay, if it were someone else doing this over the top nonsense ppl would still be disgusted.

My ridiculous-content-viewing meter is filled for the day

I really love his voice and was rooting for him to win AI. But, call me a cranky old lady if you like, I think displays like this (and the Britney/Madonna one too), or any PDA, whether gay or straight, don't belong on prime time TV. Part of the story line in a movie? Fine. Real life in private? Fine. Otherwise, show some dignity.

  16. Missed him last night, but endured his inflated ego during American Idol. He has a good voice, but I'm not a fan. Guess I got tired of the judges kissing his pa-tootie all season.

  17. I think he's trying too hard. What's he gonna do next? Date Bobby Trendy?

  18. I agree a male to male kiss is no more offensive then the female to female kiss.

The simulated (oral sex) mouth to crotch thingy was too much for primetime network TV. Like someone else said it would be more appropriate on the MTV or VH1 awards.

  19. I don't care if it was 2 chicks simulating oral sex, still too much for primetime, when kids might be watching. Or my grandma.

  20. ...but don't kids watch the MTV awards too? Just askin...

  21. I was disappointed by his performance - anyone who watched him on Idol knows the boy could SING, but this performance didn't show it AT ALL. I was ok with the S&M and other elements - whatever. If a 16 year old hillbilly can hump a pole in short-shorts during primetime, a legally-aged man can pull a Madonna.

  22. talk about jumping the shark--and so early in his 'career' too. granted, the choreography didn't come from him...but does the industry have such little faith in him that they think his talent has no merit and must resort to excessive staging?

  23. I loved Adam on Idol, definitely consider myself a fan, and I really wasn't put off by his antics. What DID put me off was the song itself. Blech. Just gawdawful.

  24. I think it's a shame.

I am un-scandalizable really (I think sex/drugs titallation IS the convention now, not the rebellion and therefore find it a bit dull)...

And usually I just write people off - especially Britney - but I was somewhat interested in Adam. I don't follow Idol at all, but I liked what I had heard...that he had vocal talent and personality.

This was such a cheap approach, and it apparently disabled the thing that might have really mattered to me...his vocals.

More Katy Perry than Lady Gaga. Really selling himself short, I really think it is crucial for any artist to have a grasp on restraint, nuance and subtlety...even flamboyant ones.

  25. lol at the if a hillbilly 16 yr old can do it so can Adam L. comment!

  26. Fine with the kiss. In fact, the more man on man affection that is out there, the better, if it helps to clean out the closets and let people live their lives openly and be happy. Not fine with the simulated oral sex. Icky in any sexuality. Very, very tacky. Also, he should have put half as much thought into his "scandal" and twice as much thought into his singing. Ouch!

  27. RJ i totally agree. The singing sounded more like screeching every 15 seconds.
