Roman Polanski Gets Bail

The Swiss caved in and have granted Roman Polanski bail. That's right. An electronic bracelet is all that is going to keep Polanski from making a run for the French border. That and the $4.5M he is posting as bail. You think he could make that much in his next movie? Yeah he probably could. And how long do you think it would take him to get back to France from his chalet? I think reporters are still searching but this is probably the first time someone who was supposed to be extradited has been granted bail. It shows you what having a lot of money and passing a few bucks around can accomplish.

This is a f**king travesty. I liked having him in jail. I wanted him to stay in a Swiss jail for months and months while they decided what to do. If and when he came to the US and some judge here decided to let him go, at least I would have had the satisfaction of knowing he spent a very long time in a Swiss jail. Now though he will be at his chalet with his servants and his skiing and this really, really pisses me off.

  1. He's gone. He'll never be extradited now. I bet he'll be in France before the Swiss even realize he left his chalet. You're right-total travesty.

  3. Any jail they sent him to would have been soft on him anyway.

It would be better if someone kills him.

It would be even better if someone raped him before they killed him

To the killers and the rapists of the world: Roman Polanski is in need of your services!

  4. i love it when we get Drunk Enty combined w/ Caped Crusader Enty. i wonder tho...if somehow, somewhere...there will be some sort of vigilante justice? i mean, surely we're not the only ones that are pissed.

  5. There is no justice in the world if you have the money to pay your way out of it.
But karma has a way of biting you in the ass...right, OJ?
He just bought his way out of prison for 4.5 million and is probably already back home in France. *With* the award the Swiss were going to give him.

  6. I just love the justice in this world that is dictated by money.

  7. while i may have been one of the people who played devil's advocate in Enty's last post about Polanski and the original court proceedings, i think it's idiotic to grant someone bail who has already proven themselves a flight risk.

  8. Hopefully the prosecution appeals and wins the bail decision.

  10. I actually was thinking about him yesterday. At least he finally did SOME jail time. It's not justice by a long shot but it's something. finally.

  11. What is ironic is that he spent more time in jail in Switzerland waiting for extradition that he would have spent in prison in California in the first place if he hadn't fled the country. And I don't think California is serious about wanting him back since he had already plea bargained down the rape charge and the victim, bless her heart, just wants it all done with.

  12. Alright, if we are doing this: Team justice!

And yeah, I think he better watch it out there...

  13. I also think he'll flee - there's a real man there, for you, then again he's never been much of a stand-up guy, has he? If he DOES flee, I hope his supporters will finally see what irresponsible scum this pig is - no more movies for this guy.

  14. Remind me to come back in my next life as a privileged, rich film director. They seem to get anything they want, and don't have to pay the consequences for their disgusting behavior. Of course, there's hell to pay, literally, when there is no next life.

  15. What this shows is the US is incompetent or this was all for show, how many other international criminals are caught and an extradition order is signed and US Marshalls go pick them up? I'm sure the Swiss figure he's been there in custody and no one cares enough to sign the order and come and get him, I would assume that this was not very important either because every other criminal is picked up right away, the hearing to extradite is heard right away.

I'm not sure what game the US or the Dist Atty was playing but no one is going to pick up Roman Polanski to face charges here or it would have happened by now. He's not going to run, he's going to walk right out and no one will stop him. The question is why is this happening?

  16. The bigger picture is that this will make yet another generation of men feel that they have the 'right' to do anything they wish to do to girls and -so what. And yet another generation of young girls will feel they have no say about their own bodied. It is truly disgusting.

  17. A total travesty. A complete miscarriage of justice.

  18. The problem is that the USA never told the Swiss to arrest him. An employee of the Swiss Government knew he was coming and emailed (or faxed, I don't remember) the US authorities asking them if they should arrest him. The USA said "yes" but I guess they didn't have enough time to actually think about what to do next.

It has left a big mess in Switzerland and the politicians are laughed at because of it.

  19. I have been reading all those Polanski-related indignant comments here and there, and, frankly, can't be arsed about the whole media circus. Technically, Polanski spent the last two months in prison. And the biggest problem for some people seems to be that it wasn't an American prison. You know what? Those ill-conceived rape fantasies of yours are not likely to materialize. Deal with it and move on or something.

    *shrugs indifferently*

I love how some people can never be concerned when it has nothing to do with them. So what the victim didn't want him prosecuted. The victim doesn't try the criminal. The state does. Most victims are too afraid to go to the police station, let alone testify in court. That is why we have a police force and prosecutors. *Shrugs at the lack of empathy*

Well Karma is a bitch and he will definitely get his. You can't just hurt a young girl and let your celebrity and money get you out of the mess.

  21. Michaela, are you on Team Polanski? Please say no.

  22. Yea...I'm pissed too, a travesty of justice for sure.

  23. Only person I hate more right now that Polanski and my entire family is the judge who allowed this to happen.

I totally expect that he will be back in France by Christmas and will never see what he deserves for his crime.

  24. Well, I guess Debra "Conspiracy of Philistines" Winger got an early Christmas present. At the expense of the safety of all adolescent girls.

  25. Agreed, Enty. Apparently it was only a matter of how much.

I guess no one ever told ole Roman, you play, you pay. But then again, he's the one getting paid, even though he fucked up. If it was some lay person off the street, their ass would be in jail for a looong time.
