It fits the pictures Enty picked for the first MVpost: she started in Jazz clubs, and the concert scene photo could be because she performed some big outdoor events.
If you watch the very few live clips of her on youtube, there are a few where she’s clearly singing over a backing track. Some of her live performances are very poor vs the recorded songs. She had a longish ‘break’, split with her record company over ‘differences’ and is struggling to come back as big again.
Enty doesn’t actually ever say MV is a really bad singer. Even a halfway decent singer could have used a voice double to overcome other problems e.g. concentration/drugs, or just to give a bit of an extra layer of wow.
The only thing that’s not right is that her first album was more successful than the first, but maybe Enty was playing a bit lose with that too. Her second single was much bigger than her first though.

If it is Britney, why would it be so shocking if the news came out? Britney has never been known for her voice and the rumours of lip synching have been around for years. I am thinking it must be someone bigger than Britney and who has been around longer or that "S" is someone who the music world be shocked to learn the identity.
I still think Guy is Larry Rudolph or Benny Medina anyone who works in the bizness if they are described these characters you will narrow it down to either one of these! douches! I'm going to go on the J.lo bus because most of her songwriters are black and heavy girls. FACT!!
A few years ago I won tickets to a JLO concert in NYC--they were filming it for promotional purposes--I couldn't go , because they wanted teenage kids to go along, & mine were too little. But, I am sure she had done hundreds of those "concerts" in all major cities to promote her cds.
I think people forget the artist came out around 2001 because this guy who had 'S' do the recordings came to her in LATE 2000, so it wouldn't be a Mariah, Whitney, Madonna or Janet because they were already well established. I thought Nelly Furtado was a good guess.

Were it not for the "hundreds of tours" (did he really say this?) I would be firmly on the J.Lo train, but I guess I'm going with Britney now. That being said, I agree that this wouldn't be terribly surprising unless what's implied is that there was very little "mixing" at all - it was purely another voice.
Macy Gay is a big fat nobody in the scheme of things. I have always said Whitney and I have accurately stated in and every blind that has ever been posted.
As much as I like the Macy Gray guess - there was a lot of hype around her when she first premiered - I don't know that it would necessarily be her. She just...doesn't seem big enough.
Then again, neither did Alice Brady, so who knows.

I don't know..they both are known to have had help vocally. This is not Macy Gray. Wikipedia says her 2nd album failed as a commercial success - her first album far outsold her 2nd. A hint in the original BI said her 2nd release was bigger than the 2nd.
I don't suppose Christina Aguilara could be thrown in? I don't know too much about her...clearly she can sing, and has been singing since she was a kid, but I just wonder. THAT would just blow everyone away.
Did Macy Gray have a concert album too - that would fit right? She may not be as huge as Brit or Whitney etc, but she was massively critically acclaimed, even when her albums didn't do so well though they still did well abroad. She won Grammys and so on, and has worked with some other big names. I also agree she doesn't sound so good anymore.
I thought for sure he was going to give a clue to rule out Britney! This keeps pointing toward her, although "anonymous" makes an excellent argument for Macy Gray.

Macy Gray has too distinct a voice in person and in her songs for it be her. Britney used to sing live for years as a child...just like Christina Aguilera. She just has to lip sync at concerts now because of her dance moves..etc. Whitney?? Um...no. Janet...no way either. Shania was born in Canada...so it isn't her. We are just all way off I think.

MV IS MADONNA. Ok doubters - so her voice is nothing special - early on she was a punk/pop singer...and she was all over MTV in 80s/90s - but her 80s voice sounds very different than it does today. She didn't pull off Evita well - but maybe she wasn't doing the singing...and they were compensating for her terrible voice.
ALSO - check out the pics today. There is a picture of Madonna looking at orphans in Brazil and right below - some random picture of a million dollar car taking a swim. The GUY was talking on his cellphone.

I've been waiting for this clue all day (on the East coast). I think we just need one more clue and we could figure this out. Tricia is right. Plus, Macy Gray is a beautiful woman but not at all manufactured for the stage. She's always had an indy cool, I-could-take-it-or-leave-it vibe. This blind has always seemed to point to a person who clearly had the "it factor" to make her a superstar but not the voice. As anti-climactic as it is now, it would have been a bombshell to find out this was Britney when the blind first appeared in 2006!

I know this isn't a guess, but why didn't "S" know the name of the guy that approached her, paid her and was the one she worked for? I would think that would come up, even if only in the studio when she's recording and working with everyone else....weird. Did everyone in the studio agree not to mention the guy's name, or did he give a fake one to everyone? It sounds VERY difficult to pull this off. I doubt it's Fiona. You can find lots of live performances of hers (there's a great one of "Get Him Back" on Craig Ferguson), and if anything, her live singing voice now sounds better than her recorded voice on Tidal.

I can't get behind Britney. If it's Britney and you're the lawyer you probably wouldn't make a post about it and clear everyone but Britney. Also Britney is fun but she is not a good singer. I think most likely the dates are off because Enty doesn't want his ass sued which is why it's not Britney and the dates are off and is a bigger name than her.

We all know that Britney, Madonna, and JLo cannot sing that well, I do not think that should be the focus of this blind. What does matter is the money, publicity, and promotional machine behind this "singer" and the fakery behind it, what started it, and who is behind it, that is the blind.

It's a good point to ask who 'Guy' would be... someone, more than one person, posted Benny Medina, as they thought he would be recognizeable by Enty from S's description. I didn't know anything about him so I looked him up.... he managed JLO til 2003.... and guess what, coincidentally has re-established his relationship with JLO now (maybe she didn't have a choice, maybe he knows too much? hehe). Research shows: Medina managed Sean "P. Diddy" Combs and aided in the launch of the Sean John apparel and fragrance empire. During that period he met Jennifer Lopez, at the time a respected dancer, and managed her career in the music and film industry. Benny was ranked #42 in Out Magazines' 50 most powerful people in 2008.

1) Cory Rooney also exec produced JLo's followup albums: - 2002's J to tha L-O!: The Remixes - 2002's This Is Me... Then - 2005's Rebirth
However, after that, they seem to have cut ties.
And two more points that have more gossip than fact, but take them as you will:
2) A session singer friend of mine dated a songwriter (not Cory) who happened to cowrite a hit for "J.Lo". She sang on another one of his so-called demos and ended up on another artist's album. My point? It's not an uncommon practice in the industry.
3) A good friend of mine used to work for Benny Medina. Everyone fires him, probably after seeing that he spends all their money on coke, but somehow he manages to hang around. That said, he wouldn't be the guy in this case because he's on the artist's side, not the music production side.

That said, my guess is JLo.
She was a Fly Girl (dancer) who got her big break by getting cast as Selena (a singer) and built a career on it. If the vocals were faked, mixed, blended, or otherwise fraud, it means her entire career was built entirely on smoke and mirrors. Which I totally think it was.
Also, she would be bitchy enough to be offended that her "voice ghost" wasn't some supermodel. That little detail keeps sticking with me.
@Little Miss Smoke and Mirrors - I totally agree. Plus, I think she's such a narcissist that having to be in a room with the REAL talent and having Enty know about it surely pissed her and bruised her ego. Instead of being humble and professional she was a snot about it.

Benny Medina is an artist's manager. He manages a performer's career and is not directly involved in the production of their records. Which is why the guy has to be on the record production side of the business.

yep, desertdweller, this just doesn't go anywhere else but JLo for me... unless someone else can come up with someone who had cd's in quick succession like that (Britney's eliminated..2nd album people)...
Unless this is someone from the r&b world, which I hope people would do their homework first before throwing names out, we're already frustrated by this (well, actually I'm not...I think it's pegged)
Does anyone remember the concert that JLO aired on television. A lot of people just tuned in to see if she could pull it off. I remember the big rumor going around during that time was she couldn't sing at all and the concert was a big deal for her.
With their weak voices, I just don't see Britney or JLo would bring down the house, as Enty said. I think it has to be someone who is known for their huge voice like a Whitney or a Mariah, or a major musical family, like Janet.
Mariah is out because the person has a child. Plus she always spontaneously sings her lyrics into everyday conversation. Janet is so sneaky, you don't know if she has a child. I'm still going for Whitney. Her voice sounds different now. It's still lovely, but it's not quite the same.
Its not Whitney. I saw her singing a live show in the 80's. It was intimate and she was throwing out gospel at the top of her lungs. She is definitely a legit singer.
I dunno he says that MV was born in the U.S. not that she's a American. Shania is known to be a liar are we certain she was born in Canada?...plus I know this isn't something to go by, but the pictures Enty used on the revisited blog were Canadian prints...hmmm. I know this won't be reveal whether real or not it is fun to guess :)
I agree with all the JLO guesses. If you look at her wikipedia page, it documents that she was first interested in dancing and acting and then singing came after a few movies 'Selena' and 'Out of Site'. Her 2nd album did better than her first and many articles state her live shows were all pre-taped. I think it WOULD rock the industry because of her relationship with p.diddy along with others.
I'm sorry if this was brought up already. I just read the first 40 or so and have to leave work in a bit but Macy Gray? Really? You think there will ever be a situation where she is the "looks" and someone else is "the voice".
If Macy Gray was anything in this blind, it would be S., not MV.
She is/was a great singer, and only used the vocal double after she didn't recover well from surgery on her vocal cords just before her second album (that would explain why they needed someone at the last minute to sing for her and the album was 'ready to go' when S stepped in).
Divorced from Dan Hill, 3 kids with TG, american born, been in commercials e.g. for Pepsi, awards, tours, gold records, 2nd album bigger than first, steady stream of albums. Dates wrong, but going with the idea EL is throwing us off the scent.
Scott Hendricks as the producer (he started out as a writer), and as CEO of capital Records and later working for Virgin, he is high profile in the biz - would be a shock if he was involved in something like this.
I also agree it's someone with a huge voice. Someone that can sing acapella. Someone who's been asked to sing the National Anthem at a sporting event, someone who could kill a solo with a gospel choir. Otherwise, why have a background singer who obviously has the chops to be a star and not the looks to put the vocals to someone who can't sing their way out of a paperbag like Britney, JLo and sorry Janet, you are not a singer.
It would rock the music industry to find out that someone was actually doing the tracks for Beyonce, Whitney Houston, Mary J, Alicia Keys, Mariah, Christina A, Jennifer Hudson.
Why are so many people guessing folks that noone other than a sorority girl at a cheesy party school would think were great singers. Janet Jackson comes from a huge musical family, but a great singer she ain't and will never be.

Everytime someone suggests JLo, I want to scream. She is an actress who put out an album. Period. If she faked it, it would hardly shake the music biz to the core. As for Britney, how could any decent backup singer as 'S' evidently is, recognize her voice in those computerized pop productions that sound like they were sung by a 12 year old? Not Britney. CA has demonstrated live many times that she is the real thing. That leaves Whitney....IF SHE IS A FAKE THAT WOULD BE HUGE...
And I also don't think we need to overthink this in regards to this person being tremendously talented like a WH, MC or CA. Yes, I do think the voice has to be good so Britney and Madonna don't make sense because S wouldn't have a successful career singing if she sounded like that.
I think we need to focus on the statement in the first paragraph that states this would shake the INDUSTRY to its core. Alot of people would have tainted careers. The label, the record company, the songwriter, the producers, hell the person who mixed the music on the tracks S put out. I don't think MV would be the one who paid the biggest price here, although her singing career would be over if it already isn't.
MICHAEL JACKSON, starting with his first solo album, after his voice changed. Crazy, but here's some reasoning:
--His voice changed and it wasn't going to sell, or Joe was afraid it wouldn't, so he approaches this woman. --I've heard occasions of people meeting Michael and being surprised at how deep his voice actually was. --I can't imagine anyone else for whom this reveal would "blow up the music business and shake it to its core." --I have no problem thinking Enty gave a phony timeline and changed the sex so he could never be considered liable for this leaking. --He was married, divorced, has at least one child, was born in the U.S., and somewhere in the blinds MV was considering a revealing interview. Maybe the Martin Bashir interview?

As a life-long Madonna fan I must bring up a couple of things that occured to me as a kid. These may or may not be related to this blind item that has me oh so totally intrigued. But anyhoo...one is this song right here:

When I was a kid I could not afford to buy all of the cassette tapes of my favorite artists. I used to spend lots of time recording songs of the radio that were made from my fave perfomers and would make my own greatest hits tapes, if you will. That song above, I clearly remember being introduced by various deejays with Madonna as the artist. It was not until this year as a matter of fact that I found out it was actually not Madonna that recorded this song, but an artist named Regina.
Point #2, as I mentioned earlier, I was a HUGE Madonna fan. And as I got older started getting an allowance. One of the first things I bought with this allowance was Madonna's The Immaculate Collection tape. Even though I had recorded all of her "Greatest Hits" this tape had two brand new songs. These songs were "Justify My Love" and "Rescue Me".
As I listened to both these songs I remember thinking to myself how both songs were more spoken than singing which struck me as kinda odd. And with "Rescue Me" in paticular, her singing voice (to me anyways) just sounded really different than all the other songs she had previously made.
I replayed "Rescue Me" over and over again, and then would play "True Blue", "Like a Virgin" and others to compare. And the voices did sound similar but different somehow. I played these songs for my mom and told her my theory and my mom said it had been many years between the release of the songs and that someone like Madonna would never let little girls who were such huge fans like me down like that.
Oh I what my mom meant by many years between the release of the songs was that Madonna's voice probably had matured and had gotten stronger which is what made the earlier stuff sound different from that song released in '91.
With all that said, I would not be surprised if MV was in fact Madonna.
And if it were, my childhood idol was a complete fake.

Has numerous awards
Has toured the world extensively
She’s done commercials e.g. for Gap and Macdonalds
She’s had more than 3 albums
She admits her drug taking, arrogance and paranoia was the reason behind her split with her record company in 2004. So it’s possible that she was arrogant in dealing with S too.
She was huge/everywhere at one point
It fits the pictures Enty picked for the first MVpost: she started in Jazz clubs, and the concert scene photo could be because she performed some big outdoor events.
If you watch the very few live clips of her on youtube, there are a few where she’s clearly singing over a backing track. Some of her live performances are very poor vs the recorded songs. She had a longish ‘break’, split with her record company over ‘differences’ and is struggling to come back as big again.
Enty doesn’t actually ever say MV is a really bad singer. Even a halfway decent singer could have used a voice double to overcome other problems e.g. concentration/drugs, or just to give a bit of an extra layer of wow.
The only thing that’s not right is that her first album was more successful than the first, but maybe Enty was playing a bit lose with that too. Her second single was much bigger than her first though.

Did Macy Gray have a concert album too - that would fit right? She may not be as huge as Brit or Whitney etc, but she was massively critically acclaimed, even when her albums didn't do so well though they still did well abroad. She won Grammys and so on, and has worked with some other big names. I also agree she doesn't sound so good anymore.

Ok doubters - so her voice is nothing special - early on she was a punk/pop singer...and she was all over MTV in 80s/90s - but her 80s voice sounds very different than it does today. She didn't pull off Evita well - but maybe she wasn't doing the singing...and they were compensating for her terrible voice.
ALSO - check out the pics today. There is a picture of Madonna looking at orphans in Brazil and right below - some random picture of a million dollar car taking a swim. The GUY was talking on his cellphone.

I'm not really sold on the JLo thing, but I just don't think the Britney thing would be all that shocking (as numerous others have posted here). But I don't really see JLo as that shocking either. ReplyDeleteTricia is right. Plus, Macy Gray is a beautiful woman but not at all manufactured for the stage. She's always had an indy cool, I-could-take-it-or-leave-it vibe. This blind has always seemed to point to a person who clearly had the "it factor" to make her a superstar but not the voice. As anti-climactic as it is now, it would have been a bombshell to find out this was Britney when the blind first appeared in 2006!

I would think that would come up, even if only in the studio when she's recording and working with everyone else....weird. Did everyone in the studio agree not to mention the guy's name, or did he give a fake one to everyone? It sounds VERY difficult to pull this off.

I have to reiterate-- news of Britney faking her vocals would NOT surprise me or any of my friends. (We are all MAJOR Brit fans and concertgoers). However, I do not believe she fakes her voice-- she simply no longer sings live. Also, didn't Britney sing live at her Showtime concert in 2004?
I just don't have it in me to believe that this is her-- she's has been singing publically since she was a little girl. If MV was Brit, why wouldn't they get a better vocalist who could actually sing and not have to digitize her voice?

There really aren't many females in the music industry that would shock us except (IMO) Whitney, Mariah, Madonna, and Janet. I don't think it's anyone in country. It just HAS to be someone really big, or else who really cares if they fake sing or not.

The other big clue for me is S, the real singer, and why MV was shocked and why she treated her so rudely. Is she a black woman, Asian, handicapped, a woman in a wheelchair, blind, or what?

It's a good point to ask who 'Guy' would be... someone, more than one person, posted Benny Medina, as they thought he would be recognizeable by Enty from S's description. I didn't know anything about him so I looked him up.... he managed JLO til 2003.... and guess what, coincidentally has re-established his relationship with JLO now (maybe she didn't have a choice, maybe he knows too much? hehe). Research shows: Medina managed Sean "P. Diddy" Combs and aided in the launch of the Sean John apparel and fragrance empire. During that period he met Jennifer Lopez, at the time a respected dancer, and managed her career in the music and film industry. Benny was ranked #42 in Out Magazines' 50 most powerful people in 2008.

She was a Fly Girl (dancer) who got her big break by getting cast as Selena (a singer) and built a career on it. If the vocals were faked, mixed, blended, or otherwise fraud, it means her entire career was built entirely on smoke and mirrors. Which I totally think it was.
Also, she would be bitchy enough to be offended that her "voice ghost" wasn't some supermodel. That little detail keeps sticking with me.

@Little Miss Smoke and Mirrors - I totally agree. Plus, I think she's such a narcissist that having to be in a room with the REAL talent and having Enty know about it surely pissed her and bruised her ego. Instead of being humble and professional she was a snot about it.

Benny Medina is an artist's manager. He manages a performer's career and is not directly involved in the production of their records. Which is why the guy has to be on the record production side of the business.
thanks, AnnMarie! I would interpret that to mean EL is covering his butt by introducing 'vagueness'...but I don't take that to mean he threw things off by years or anything like that.
ReplyDeleteyep, desertdweller, this just doesn't go anywhere else but JLo for me... unless someone else can come up with someone who had cd's in quick succession like that (Britney's eliminated..2nd album people)...
Unless this is someone from the r&b world, which I hope people would do their homework first before throwing names out, we're already frustrated by this (well, actually I'm not...I think it's pegged)
Does anyone remember the concert that JLO aired on television. A lot of people just tuned in to see if she could pull it off. I remember the big rumor going around during that time was she couldn't sing at all and the concert was a big deal for her.

ReplyDeleteWith their weak voices, I just don't see Britney or JLo would bring down the house, as Enty said. I think it has to be someone who is known for their huge voice like a Whitney or a Mariah, or a major musical family, like Janet.
ReplyDeleteMariah is out because the person has a child. Plus she always spontaneously sings her lyrics into everyday conversation. Janet is so sneaky, you don't know if she has a child. I'm still going for Whitney. Her voice sounds different now. It's still lovely, but it's not quite the same.
Will we ever figure this out?
Its not Whitney. I saw her singing a live show in the 80's. It was intimate and she was throwing out gospel at the top of her lungs. She is definitely a legit singer.
ReplyDeleteI dunno he says that MV was born in the U.S. not that she's a American. Shania is known to be a liar are we certain she was born in Canada?...plus I know this isn't something to go by, but the pictures Enty used on the revisited blog were Canadian prints...hmmm. I know this won't be reveal whether real or not it is fun to guess :)

ReplyDeleteI agree with all the JLO guesses. If you look at her wikipedia page, it documents that she was first interested in dancing and acting and then singing came after a few movies 'Selena' and 'Out of Site'. Her 2nd album did better than her first and many articles state her live shows were all pre-taped. I think it WOULD rock the industry because of her relationship with p.diddy along with others.

I'm sorry if this was brought up already. I just read the first 40 or so and have to leave work in a bit but Macy Gray? Really? You think there will ever be a situation where she is the "looks" and someone else is "the voice".

Faith Hill?
ReplyDeleteShe is/was a great singer, and only used the vocal double after she didn't recover well from surgery on her vocal cords just before her second album (that would explain why they needed someone at the last minute to sing for her and the album was 'ready to go' when S stepped in).
Divorced from Dan Hill, 3 kids with TG, american born, been in commercials e.g. for Pepsi, awards, tours, gold records, 2nd album bigger than first, steady stream of albums. Dates wrong, but going with the idea EL is throwing us off the scent.
Scott Hendricks as the producer (he started out as a writer), and as CEO of capital Records and later working for Virgin, he is high profile in the biz - would be a shock if he was involved in something like this.
While I 85% vote for JLo (as she was Tommy Mottola's revenge move for Mariah divorcing him), one more thought before dismissing Whitney...

I also agree it's someone with a huge voice. Someone that can sing acapella. Someone who's been asked to sing the National Anthem at a sporting event, someone who could kill a solo with a gospel choir. Otherwise, why have a background singer who obviously has the chops to be a star and not the looks to put the vocals to someone who can't sing their way out of a paperbag like Britney, JLo and sorry Janet, you are not a singer.
ReplyDeleteIt would rock the music industry to find out that someone was actually doing the tracks for Beyonce, Whitney Houston, Mary J, Alicia Keys, Mariah, Christina A, Jennifer Hudson.
Why are so many people guessing folks that noone other than a sorority girl at a cheesy party school would think were great singers. Janet Jackson comes from a huge musical family, but a great singer she ain't and will never be.
Thanks guys! But I'm still wondering if we are missing something. I just noticed in the original BI that Enty tagged 'Guy' so Guy has to be a real clue like people were suggesting before. Does 'Guy' match to J.Lo in anyway?

ReplyDeleteEverytime someone suggests JLo, I want to scream. She is an actress who put out an album. Period. If she faked it, it would hardly shake the music biz to the core. As for Britney, how could any decent backup singer as 'S' evidently is, recognize her voice in those computerized pop productions that sound like they were sung by a 12 year old? Not Britney. CA has demonstrated live many times that she is the real thing. That leaves Whitney....IF SHE IS A FAKE THAT WOULD BE HUGE...
ReplyDeleteAnd I also don't think we need to overthink this in regards to this person being tremendously talented like a WH, MC or CA. Yes, I do think the voice has to be good so Britney and Madonna don't make sense because S wouldn't have a successful career singing if she sounded like that.
ReplyDeleteI think we need to focus on the statement in the first paragraph that states this would shake the INDUSTRY to its core. Alot of people would have tainted careers. The label, the record company, the songwriter, the producers, hell the person who mixed the music on the tracks S put out. I don't think MV would be the one who paid the biggest price here, although her singing career would be over if it already isn't.

ReplyDelete--His voice changed and it wasn't going to sell, or Joe was afraid it wouldn't, so he approaches this woman.
--I've heard occasions of people meeting Michael and being surprised at how deep his voice actually was.
--I can't imagine anyone else for whom this reveal would "blow up the music business and shake it to its core."
--I have no problem thinking Enty gave a phony timeline and changed the sex so he could never be considered liable for this leaking.
--He was married, divorced, has at least one child, was born in the U.S., and somewhere in the blinds MV was considering a revealing interview. Maybe the Martin Bashir interview?
Again, I know this is crazy, but the whole thing is!!

okay damn it I'm on the Britney crazy train her voice is sooo different back in her early career than what we hear now...I know I know her smoking and all that but it can't change THAT much can it? it sounds like a totally different voice/person.
ReplyDeleteAs a life-long Madonna fan I must bring up a couple of things that occured to me as a kid. These may or may not be related to this blind item that has me oh so totally intrigued. But anyhoo...one is this song right here:

When I was a kid I could not afford to buy all of the cassette tapes of my favorite artists. I used to spend lots of time recording songs of the radio that were made from my fave perfomers and would make my own greatest hits tapes, if you will. That song above, I clearly remember being introduced by various deejays with Madonna as the artist. It was not until this year as a matter of fact that I found out it was actually not Madonna that recorded this song, but an artist named Regina.
Point #2, as I mentioned earlier, I was a HUGE Madonna fan. And as I got older started getting an allowance. One of the first things I bought with this allowance was Madonna's The Immaculate Collection tape. Even though I had recorded all of her "Greatest Hits" this tape had two brand new songs. These songs were "Justify My Love" and "Rescue Me".
As I listened to both these songs I remember thinking to myself how both songs were more spoken than singing which struck me as kinda odd. And with "Rescue Me" in paticular, her singing voice (to me anyways) just sounded really different than all the other songs she had previously made.
I replayed "Rescue Me" over and over again, and then would play "True Blue", "Like a Virgin" and others to compare. And the voices did sound similar but different somehow. I played these songs for my mom and told her my theory and my mom said it had been many years between the release of the songs and that someone like Madonna would never let little girls who were such huge fans like me down like that.
Oh I what my mom meant by many years between the release of the songs was that Madonna's voice probably had matured and had gotten stronger which is what made the earlier stuff sound different from that song released in '91.

And if it were, my childhood idol was a complete fake.
@Tricia.... there is a JLO connection to a 'Guy'... Guy Harding has credit for Jennifer Lopez's 'Jennifer Lopez in Concert (2001)'. Apparently he's an editor...
