Your Turn

As I sit here eating some new cracker which has bacon infused in it and smells as good as it tastes I am reminded of the fact that it has been over a year since I last asked this question. I have to ask because the snack world is always changing and someday I know there is the possibility that my favorite snack food Chicken in a Biskit may be supplanted someday. It will only happen though if I can try every one of your favorites. So, please, just in time for the last few games of the football season, your favorite snack food.

  4. My favorite snack is pecans and raisins but my guilty pleasure is Ruffles potato chips with sour cream. I only eat that when I really need to cheer myself up.

Triscuits. Love me some Triscuits. Plain or with cheddar cheese.

  9. Right now I am on a Ritz toasted chips in sour cream and onion flavor craze. Next month it will be something else.

Oh gosh! Well, I really love potato sticks, the little skinny ones like match sticks that come in a can. And frozen fruit juice bars. Honeycrisp apples. Goldfish (the crackers, not the things from the aquarium). The flavored rice cakes. Potato chips with french onion dip. Frozen fruit, especially the dark red cherries. Anything chocolate. Black licorice. Banana slushies. Pine nuts. Candied ginger. Cheese.

Now you know why I'm not a size 3.

Sno-caps or plain m&ms mixed with skittles and doritos. Sick, but goooooood.

  13. from the time i was a kid, i've loved lay's potato chips (only the greasiest will do) and french onion dip.

maybe once or twice a year, i will get the urge, then not eat for an entire day so i can get myself a huge bag of chips and a container of dip and polish it all off.

  14. I'm on the Angie train - I loves me some snacks. I'd rather graze than eat a meal any day.

If I had to pick one, though, it would be chips and guacamole and/or homemade salsa. I make a M-E-A-N salsa - lots of fresh tomatoes and lots of chopped cilantro.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Cheese. More cheese. Throw in the odd cracker. Where is the damn cheese.

Enty, what is the name of the bacon infussed cracker. Sounds yum.

  17. Nacho Cheese flavored Doritos with the Frito Lay bean dip in the short can. I can't find it here in NY :(

  18. I'm a lifelong vegetarian and nutrition fanatic, and my favorite snacks are fruit and vegetables, but specifically, the one thing I crave more than anything else is walnuts. Weird, I know; I don't know of another person who loves them the way that I do, but they are loaded with nutrients (and calories!), and I eat them with the same delight a six year old has for M&Ms. Gotta have them or I'll climb the walls!

    ReplyDelete

When we have some I get a plate with some strawberries, grapes and cheese. When we don't have that I will eat any junk food that is eatable lol.

  23. besides chicken in a biskit, i'd have to say CHILI CHEESE FRITOS!!!! although that's like a once a year occasion since I tend to eat the whole bag :)

  24. I was just snacking on a few of my new "everyday" favorites--Vanilla Bean Oven Roasted Almonds. Love them.

About once a month when I want a little blow-out treat I'll have champagne, some pate w/truffles, maybe some figs and dates or antipasto or a good fruit & cheese plate.

I can down a whole bottle o'bubbly in a very short time, though (sometimes two:)), so on those nights the snack often just becomes my only dinner. Hubby has to fend for himself, then gets to take advantage of the situation (me--not the Guido)!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I used to love Bon ton's cheddar cheese and bacon potato chips but they got discontinued, so did my other favorite which was Planter's cheese curls :(

  28. Hi... My name is Danosmom, and I'm a Snakaholic... Since breaking my back and my leg, I've become addicted to snacks.. you name it.. I'll eat it.. I've put on QUITE a few lbs, but now that I can walk again... I enjoy fresh raspberries, grapes and bananas.. and broccoli with Texas Pete's hot sauce.. ;) OH.. and coffee, can't give that up, is that a "snack" per se, or an actual staple? Anyway, thanks for listening.. ;)

  29. buttered popcorn & milk duds. in the same sitting.

    also cherry jolly ranchers.

Not sure you have it in the States but my favourite is Chedda-Corn. Like a Cheesie but lots lighter, melt on your tongue. Breton crackers with cream cheese and red pepper jelly. Fried seasoned wontons with salsa.

    ReplyDelete
  31. @ Me - I think coffee is part of the 'Coffee Group', so is an actual food and not a snack.

@ Pookie - have you tried Orville Redenbacher's Corn on the Cob flavored microwave popcorn? To die for!

  36. Any 'Yats' here? I agree with Boosterseat: Geaux Saints!

Bad snacks: Tostitos with a glass of milk. Wheat Thins, and DoubleStuff Oreos-n-milk.

Good snacks: Just ripe banana, apples, strawberries that someone else washes/cuts up and raw, peeled potatoes.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Soylent Green---it's people!

For a few years I was totally addicted to salty corn nuts--I ate bags & bags of them. Then I found out I was anemic. Turns out you have salt cravings when you are anemic. Since taking iron supplements I can't look at a corn nut.

  38. Gauchogirl, you can get the Frito's Bean Dip here in Jersey -- if you aren't close, let me know and I can send you a couple of cans :).

As for me, I love Staci's naked pita chips and my daughter recently brought me a box of (can you believe it???) chocolate covered peanut brittle -- ate the whole box in one sitting, made my ass SICK, lol. But it was sooo good! I also love the chili cheese fritos and bbq fritos but cant find them here in Jersey (same with caffeine free Dr. Pepper :(

    ReplyDelete
  39. My hubby used to make a chili cheese dip. Melt velveeta cheese and a good can of chili (no beans) together and then dip your favorite tortilla chip in. Mmmmm.

Ooh and I love me some spinach dip. I like to think that it is a healthy snack! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  40. Anonymous1:04 PM

i like to have entire meals that consist of various snacks over the course of a few hours. my mom calls it "grazing", lol

to name but a few: plates of different cheeses with crackers and hot red pepper jelly...chocolate covered pretzels...almond stuffed olives...anything baked in phyllo...7 layer dip....washed down, of course, with a bottle of red wine

    ReplyDelete
  41. Let's see...I have a great weakness for food anyway, but snacks especially: potato chips (esp. sour cream & onion ones); chocolate; ice cream (B&J's Dublin Mudslide, cake batter, & Breyer's Heath Bar); Extreme Cheddar Goldfish; home-made Chex mix; home-made sugar cookies (they're not just for snacking--great for breakfast too!); chocolate-covered almonds; and the key lime pie I make (especially when I split the "batter" up into the pie tart crusts rather than a single pie crust. Put 'em in the freezer, and they're to die for, I swear). There's probably a bunch more I can't think of at the moment..... :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. Where to begin...i eat so much crap.

Pork scratchings, or pork rinds to you crazy American's, are good on occasion...SO bad for you, but so good at any time of day. Well, maybe not breakfast.

    Brie and crackers.

    Paté and toast/crackers.

    Noodles...any noodles.

Celery with either sour cream dip or cheese and chive dip, eating something that actually burns calories is a good feeling.

I'd love to be able to eat fruit as a snack but most of it gives me ulcers for some reason :( I do love grapes and pears though.

    I don't really eat crisps/chips or chocolate.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Sunflower seeds.

    ReplyDelete
  44. My new favorite thing is Valdosta Pecans...I've seen big bags at Costco and smaller bags at Walmart...
roasted pecans in a light syrup, with black pepper, dried cranberried, and orange zest.
    Oh, I want some now!!!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I love almost all snacks. My middle name is "snacks." But some good ones are the Emperor Norton sourdough chips, Pepperidge farm Geneva & Verona cookies, Goldfish crackers, sea salt and cracked pepper kettle chips, smartfood cheddar popcorn, haagen dazs vanilla swiss almond, and Pocky...

Favorite snack, sliced baguette with cream cheese & green olive slices.

Candy Corn mixed with peanuts. Tastes a bit like a Payday bar!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Reese, I love walnuts too. I try to always have a bag on hand. Not only are they great for you, but just a few make me feel nice and full.

    ReplyDelete
  51. fritos with cream cheese. yum. also chips and french onion dip, preferably from Heluva Good. thin, crispy chocolate chip cookies made with butter, not shortening (light on the chips). nachos smothered with everything. pepperoni chips (my own invention!)

  53. also cauliflower broken up into smallish florets, tossed with olive oil, salt and pepper, spread on a baking sheet and broil at 425 for about 8 -10 min. quick and hot is the way to go. they come out caramelized and slightly crispy and amazing.

  56. Trader Joe's Kettle Corn is great, I sneak some into the movie theatre rather than buy the overpriced stuff.

Goldfish crackers are my favorite salt fix and Milano cookies are a favorite for when I need chocolate.

My favorite healthy snacks are pecans, almonds, baby carrots and cucumber slices.

    ReplyDelete
  57. pretzels dipped in anything, esp. cream cheese

    UTZ GOURMET RUSSET POTATO CHIPS!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  60. BBQ potato chips have been my favorite snack food ever since I was a wee child.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Poutine!

For the non-Canadians that's french fries topped with cheese curds and smothered in gravy.

Gourmet versions could include bacon, brisket, onions, and so on, but the classic version is delightful as long as you uphold the proper sauce to solid ratio. No naked fries at the bottom of the bowl!

    ReplyDelete
  62. I'm a snacker and crave crunchy-salty so pretty much any kind of cracker or roasted nuts followed by something chocolate.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I don't even know where to begin *LOL*.

    ReplyDelete
  64. This topic is both very serious and near and dear to my heart.

@ .robert - I don't like peanuts or peanut butter but I sure love boiled peanuts. WTF is up with that??

@ Linda - My fave condiments are mayo and Sriracha (separately) and did you know that they have different flavors of Sriracha? My favorite condiment/dip for homemade fish tacos and a host of other foods is Sriracha mixed with ranch dressing. Hella good!

    Favorite snacks are:
    - Triscuits, esp. with mozzarella, or jalapeno jack cheese & pepperoni
    - Salt and Vinegar potato chips
    - Kettle cooked chips (kettle cooked Salt and Vinegar chips = FOODGASM)
    - Snyder's of Hanover JALAPENO Pretzel Pieces
    - Guacamole
    - Hummus (I sometimes make my own)
    - Baba ganoush
    - and about once a year I will gorge on chocolate covered potato chips...Holy FUCK are those good!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Criminy - where do I start?
The following on Triscuit/triscuit style crackers -
    Kippers with cream cheese
(if you've never had 'em, they kind of are an acquired taste, but I was raised on 'em)
Lox bits with cream cheese and onion
    Good all by themselves:
South Shore brand garlic pickles (unavailable any more due to Hurricane Andrew, which flattened the factory - but a better pickle you never crunched in your life)
A true Coney Island kasha knish. (Haven't had one in over 40 years but I still remember how good they were)

And in looking over this list, I realize just how ethnic my comfort food palate is! LOL

Given that I'm a native Southerner, that's really saying something.

    ReplyDelete
  66. cheese ball and crackers. yum.

  67. A few years ago, I went to Quick Weight Loss Centers to lose the pounds I'd been dragging around since I had a baby (she was five by then). Well, it worked - I lost about 40 pounds and I've kept it off (up and down by 5 pounds here and there) for 2 years. It was expensive but, IMO, worth it.

Except I got hooked on one of their snacks - they don't sell food food, but they sell snacks and munchies, and I am ADDICTED to their fudge graham bars. They are delicious, and much more filling than any store-bought weight loss bars, and so I'll have this monkey on my back for the rest of my life. They ain't cheap.

But I like being this size, so I'll keep buying them.

  74. I have found a new salsa since the last junk food love post .. Frontera Chipolte .. it is hot and smells a bit like gasoline .. but DAMN!! Love it!!

Other than that .. Golden Oreos for the sweet tooth and "Be Mine" LIttle Debbie Snack Cakes - just in time for Vanlentine's Day.

  78. Ms. Snarky, your cauliflower recipe sounds wonderful; I'm definitely going to try that. Have you ever done the same thing with Brussels sprouts? They take a bit longer to cook (I use a slightly lower temperature), but they are heavenly prepared that way. I eat them like popcorn. Great lazy dinner!

    ReplyDelete
  79. Cheetos, proper ones. I am obsessed with them but England doesn't get them because of Wotsits, a similar snack so I buy them in Polish shops as well as other bits.

Failing that, microwave butter popcorn does it for me.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Pico de Gallo with LIME Tortilla chips (must be lime)

Kettle Corn--straight from the kettle, not the microwave. (I make it at home, but at the street festivals, I have to talk fast to get straight from the kettle--they're afraid it will be too hot and someone will get burned. Hasn't happened yet. YUM)

  84. Since there appear to be a number of seasoned almond fans, here is a good recipe for you:

Roasted Almonds with Paprika and Orange
    Makes 1 cup
    1 cup raw whole almonds
    1 teaspoon extra-virgin olive oil
    1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
    1/2 teaspoon flaky sea salt
    Zest of 1 orange
Preheat oven to 325°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil and set aside.
In a bowl, combine almonds, olive oil, paprika, and salt. Spread evenly on pan.
Roast for about 15 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes or so, until almonds are fragrant and golden brown. Keep an eye (and nose!) on them to make sure they don't burn.
Let cool and toss with orange zest.
Eat by the handful or throw into a salad

    ReplyDelete
  85. Mine are simple:

    See's candies-- Bordeaux or caramel.

On a more regular basis: popcorn popped on the stove, with a pound or two of real butter (ok, a little less) on top with lots of salt.

    Yum.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Anonymous6:23 PM

    Mmmmm.. sweet and slightly salty...
    chocolate covered pretzels.

Now I have to go and eat some.

    ReplyDelete
  87. There is no greater snack than Chicken in a Biscuit. It is the finest snack ever known to man. However, should none be available, my second would be Bachman Jax Cheese Curls followed closely by Lays Potato Chips with my mother's clam dip (2 cans minced clams, 1 pint sour cream, and a package of Lipton onion soup. Mix together and let sit in the fridge overnight so that the flavors blend). Round that out with deviled eggs and some celery with vegetable flavor cream cheese and you have yourself a party! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  88. Our all-time fave: Warm, lightly-toasted baguette with butter and a tall glass of ice cold Sprite!

    ReplyDelete
  89. I prefer savory snacks to sweet, and I have a thing for ranch dressing, so I always like carrots or raw broccoli and ranch. Maybe weird.

I rarely buy it but I also love Tostitos brand white queso and chips.

If I'm feeling fancy, some great European cheeses and meats with olives. And wine. Mmmm.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Anonymous9:29 PM

Stroopwafels... not really a "snack food", but I will eat all of them within the first hour they are in the house. Luckily, they don't sell them here, and I refuse to order them online, so I only get them 1-2 a year from the Netherlands.

I have been caught researching recipes and cooking instructions. However, if I could make them myself, I fear I would become someone who would have to be removed from the house with a crane.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Frito's brand Honey BBQ flavor twists, or chili cheese fritos in a pinch.

    Apple slices with caramel.

Good quality dill pickles halves topped with peanut butter - don't knock it until you've tried it.

Microwave nachos - tostitos, shredded 4 cheese mexican cheese and Pace's taco sauce. Mmmm.

Any kind of ice cream... particulary Cherry Garcia or Maggie Moo's Red Velvet Cake.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Anonymous12:35 AM

Hey Anonymous 9:29pm you can buy a big bag of stroopwafels at Costco. I think some coffe shops and Trader Joes carried them also. They are around.

  95. I have to get ready to go out soon so I can't do my entire list (it would need it's own blog anyway). This isn't in any particular order:

Crisse d'oreilles (pork rinds) - I pick the fat off, though.
Very rare treat (which I'm currently craving right now) is a queue de castor (beaver tail).
Doughnuts from IGA - no glaze, and the closest I can find to my Mémère's doughnuts.
Lay's bbq chips (regular kind, not the new tastes like paper baked kind).
Boursin cracked pepper cheese with crackers.
    Nachos with cheese and salsa.
Cookies - various kinds depending on my mood.
Once a year - Pillsbury sugar cookie dough.

OH - not a snack per se, but I just found it - Abuelita. It's chocolate slabs from Mexico that you mix with milk as it reaches a boil. The harder you wisk, the frothier it is. Very good. Ent, there's a recipe on there where you make the hot chocolate, refrigerate it for a couple of hours, put it in a blender with some peanut butter then pour over ice. I haven't tried it yet.

Poutine is a meal. But it's best done with fries from red potatoes. They're sweet and even on their own they don't need much salt.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Frito pie - it's a Texas thang.

    Nachos with jalapenos too. Yum!

    ReplyDelete
  97. 9:29, I just found out a few months ago that my local co-op sells stroopwafels. SO YUMMY!

I love Wholly Guacamole with chips but since I've decided to lay off the junk food, my almost daily snack is now almonds.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Meredith, yes. It's like a very large, flattened doughnut without the hole. I like it with lemon. Most popular is chocolate.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I've been told my palate has been pickled from too many dirty birds, but one of my favorite treats is green olives stuffed with garlic cloves and almonds, lovingly bathed at the bottom of a couple of oz's Grey Goose vodka.

A Dirty Bird (or dirty goose) is a dirty martini with Grey Goose..."dirty" referring to the fact that the bartender splashes in a bit of juice straight out of the olive container. I could eat those stuffed olives by the bucket. Ive even ordered the drink just to get the treat skewered on the wet half of the toothpick.
You could probably wring my liver out and get high octane jet fuel, but Ive earned it. And hell, it was fun getting here!
