Your Turn

I can't believe it, but I don't think I have ever asked this question. With the season premiere of Lost just a few nights away, I thought this would be the perfect time. It is actually two questions.

#1 - Favorite TV show of all time
#2 - Favorite TV show currently airing.

There are lots of television shows that I have loved through the years. Sopranos is probably my favorite, but I could make a case for Arrested Development, Arli$$, Amazing Race, The IT Crowd, and David Letterman when he was back on NBC. As for a show currently airing, I would have to go with IT Crowd or Lost.

  8. Of all time - The Dick Van Dyke Show.

Currently on, I'm gonna say this season's Dexter, even though it's over, but I'm sure Lost will soon replace that. Can. Not. Wait.

  21. oh god this one is hard

    1. def Arrested Development. So good. Also liked Sex and the City when it was on- now it's just so played out that it's sad. Rome was amazing too- wish they'd done more seasons. Also Gargoyles (the cartoon was amazing and there were some really cool references to Shakespear lit) Also the original TMNT cartoon on Saturda mornings rocked.

    2. 30 Rock really is great. But I could also argue for True Blood and Project Runway.

  22. I fell in love with the Mary Tyler Moore show when it was running daily on Nick at Night. Great, great show.

Current - tie between Top Chef and Holmes on Homes (HGTV - 10:00 Sunday). Mike Holmes goes into people's homes (hence the title) where they had a remodeling nightmare via a bad contractor. He takes out everything the bad contractor did (and there are some doozies), fixes it and gives the homeowner something better than they had originally planned. Some of these were major home remodels, like finished basements or additions where the poor workmanship isn't visible. He usually finds way more than what was thought to be originally wrong.

I read CDAN everyday and I can't believe this is the first time I am posting. Enty-ur THE best! Best TV show of all time is I Love Lucy. Nothing will ever compare. When they used to compare D.Messing (possible coke mom)to Lucille Ball that was a slap in LBs face. Timeless, classic...even when my mom passed and I didn't come out of my house for a month I watched Lucy and she ALWAYS made me smile. I have the complete collection - went to Jamestown NY to Lucy-land and to see her grave. Don't watch much now - GH (James Franco was so hot on it) and Desp Housewives and Bro/Sisters.

  26. 1. It's a tie between Dead Like Me and Wonderfalls (Both Bryan Fuller creations, along with the wonderful Pushing Daisies)

    2. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

    ReplyDelete
  27. @ marisa - I really wish they would have continued at least a season or two more of Rome. It was great. Castor Pullox yum!

I decided on a toss up for questions #2 - second choice would be Trailer Park Boys ...easy! That show does nothing but make me happy.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yeah RocketQueen I suck at these type of games. Everything is usually my favorite :)

I do have to mention 2 more shows that are my "favorites", and I could smack myself for not thinking of them because they have been a part of my life for so long...

    The Simpsons
    Futurama

  64. I'm really into reruns of The Nanny right now. 2 hours every night on Nick!!!

Don't really watch enough TV to get into a series now. And football season is pretty much over - harrumph!

    ReplyDelete
  65. There's no way this is hard and fast, but here goes:

    1) Seinfeld is an obvious candidate for best of all time. Frasier is another great classic (whatever happened to Kelsey Grammer's career anyway). I also confess, I was OBSESSED with Dawson's Creek and Party of Five.

    2) House has been my favorite for a few years, but maybe getting old. I'm really digging Fringe right now -- love me some Joshua Jackson.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I just can't choose...

I guess i'll go with The Simpsons for #1 & #2, because it just doesn't get boring and i've loved it since i can remember. And maybe Sex & The City for #1 too...

    ReplyDelete
  67. 1. Buffy
    2. Mad Men

    ReplyDelete
  68. Sinkabella - I love "I Love Lucy" too (though not the later shows). I think one of the reasons I love "The Nanny" so much is during the episode where Fran fills in for Maggie as a candy striper and a doctor, thinking she's a nurse, orders her to shave Mr. Sheffield for his emergency appendectomy, her actions reminded me so much of Lucy when she got into one of her predicaments - I was rolling! Now I find myself looking for scenes to compare. Plus I just love Fran's outfits (and dreaming I could someday get one thigh into them...)

  69. THE WIRE.

current favorite: tie between SONS OF ANARCHY and DAMAGES.

  77. NOW

    1. Battlestar Gallactica/Caprica (they are part of the same universe and therefore count as one, damnit)
    2. Lost

    THEN

    1. The X-Files
    2. Buffy/Angel (same universe)

Can't decide whether I prefer the good old days or the here and now so I went with both. Don't get me started on the 80s or 70s.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Actually, it's a tie between BtVS and Golden Girls.

And for #2 - Ugly Betty, Gossip Girl, Chuck and Glee make my second, third, and fourth, in no particular order.

    2. hmmm. Probably 30 Rock or The Office when it's good.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Oh damn. There's been so many...

I was a hardcore X-Phile back in the day. Even after season 5, when the show had started to 'jump the shark', I stuck by it. Seasons 8 and 9 were admittedly a struggle to watch...

Though I got into it late, I loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I really need to get the rest of the seasons on DVD.

As for now, I try not to miss House or Grey's Anatomy, though they've both been...lacking...the last couple of seasons. Doctor Who is a definate must watch, though I'm a bit hesitant about the 'new' Doctor. And I've been watching a lot of a wonderful quiz show hosted by Stephen Fry called QI on YouTube. I <3 him.

    ReplyDelete
  87. yay ali for saying huff. i love that show, i'm trying to think of something i watched when i was a kid though... maybe rags to riches. i loved that shit then. And the State was amazing. Then Stella. AHHH too many to choose from.
Finally, I will say hooperman. ;D

as for now, i like royal pains a whole lot because though i'm not a concierge doctor, i relate? LOL especially to his girlfriend. She = me. She even kinda resembles me.
I also like Childrens Hospital. if you haven't seen it, google it. Not to mention another David Wain show, Michael and Michael Have Issues.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Well for past probably Sex and the City, though I did really like Life As We Know It and it should have lasted more than one season. Oh! And Tales From the Crypt and Masters of Horror!

Now..so many. Almost any show on HBO or Showtime. Psych. Chuck. Lost. 30 Rock.

And these are only about 1/3 of the shows that I love.

    ReplyDelete
  97. i am so glad to see Buffy the Vampire Slayer being represented on here!!! LOVE THAT SHOW TO PIECES and even got my boyfriend into it. He also agrees that the writing was just phenomenal and ahead of its time.

    2. Breaking Bad/LOST

    2 Glee/ True Blood

    ReplyDelete
  112. 1. The Wire - I don't think that anybody who watched at least one full season (a few episodes isn't enough to get how brilliant this show is)would argue. Quite simply the most intelligent, engaging, complex, emotionally wrenching show in the history of the medium

    2. Weeds or Big Love.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Marina, have you watched 'Millenium' again on dvd? It's held up even better than the 'X-Files' imho. I also think that 'Angel' held up better than 'Buffy.'

I'm going to add a "favorite classic show" pick to my list, because I can't go without mentioning "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." Robert Vaughn is my #1 celeb crush of all time.

Present, to be different, I'll say Criminal Minds.

    QUANTUM LEAP!!!!

Now--don't watch tv, but I download episodes of Heroes and HIMYM.

Survivor/Amazing Race will always be top five, too.

    ReplyDelete
  125. 1. The X-Files for drama and Arrested Development for comedy. The relationship between Scully and Mulder was very well-written and, to me, the show isn't even about monsters, aliens, and government conspiracies, it's about the importance of having a close friend stand by you despite whatever fucked up thing is happening in your life.

    2. Burn Notice, which is pure escapist fun and Breaking Bad, which is about the depths a good person can sink when confronted by a severe crisis. I agree with the poster who said Bryan Cranston is a genius actor. You can see the helplessness and rage in him. As an aside, Vince Gilligan, who worked on the X-Files is the creator of Breaking Bad.

Arrested Development and Dallas. My hubby and I are younger and are watching the series via dvd. That show was awesome! Actually, did the same thing with Remmington Steele and liked it quite a bit.

Now, I'm still a 24 fan, and really like Castle.

  129. Kind of off-topic, but for YEARS while the show was on and afterwards, I loved Cheers. Like LOVED Cheers. About five years ago I was watching a re-run and that entire episode was about the patrons and staff learning that "someone" in the bar was gay and trying to figure out who it was so they could kick him out.
It totally soured me on Cheers. I know it was a different time, but still..
